  1. Cedur - so what was the catalyst for you to make this decision (which I hope I can get you to revert eventually)?
  2. Eri7 lacks motivation - Some of the smbx2 devs and my decision
  3. Cedur - what did the devs say to you?
  4. Eri7 lacks motivation - Its not a single one thing , I made this decision because of stuff that happened these 3-4 months
  5. Cedur - like, did you get any negative criticism from them? Or were they just teaching you Lua and stuff?
  6. Eri7 lacks motivation - Both
  7. Its a long story
  8. Cedur - it's a general observation of mine that standards of criticism by the SMBX2 "peers" have become very merciless
  9. and that they don't fit with the needs and abilities of a common SMBX designer who grew up with 1.3.0.1 and the classics
  10. Eri7 lacks motivation - Their criticism is mostly about improving in a way that they accept it's the right way
  11. Cedur - They're experient on game design and programming and all that stuff themselves, but they shouldn't expect everyone else to live up to that as well
  12. and well, there we have it. Their way is not necessarily representative for all of us.
  13. Eri7 lacks motivation - That's why I can't continue the project
  14. I can't be like them
  15. 40% of the project happened because of their help
  16. Cedur - you still can tho? You're not required to follow their footsteps? They're not your only audience?
  17. Eri7 lacks motivation - Maybe more
  18. Without their help my project was gonna be shit that I would not want to have(edited)
  19. They were the reason I stayed on smbx2 as long as I did
  20. Cedur - Like, it's good that they're helping, but it's bad if they keep tearing your work apart and prescribe your direction etc
  21. Eri7 lacks motivation - Without their help I can't stay anymore
  22. Cedur - ultimately, if they keep forcing their Champions League standards on everyone, they'll scare everyone away
  23. Eri7 lacks motivation - I choose to end it
  24. Cedur - and again, you're NOT depending on their judgement
  25. Eri7 lacks motivation - Not them
  26. Cedur - the SMBX community is not just them
  27. Eri7 lacks motivation - I was just tired of everything being repeated for 3 months
  28. I am tired of acting like a dumb person because they think that they are always right and I have to accept it or I won't get their help
  29. Cedur - in that case, you should try to be not dependent of their help
  30. Lua is not even necessary to make a good episode
  31. Eri7 lacks motivation - Without Luna lua I have no reason to use smbx2
  32. Cedur - look at all of the famed episodes from times before Lua
  33. Eri7 lacks motivation - I can use 38A instead
  34. Cedur - and SMBX2 / PGE is already good for its improved functionalities compared to the legacy editor
  35. the problem on your part is that you're making yourself way too dependant on public reception overall
  36. Eri7 lacks motivation - To be completely honest most of the time I devoted to this project was a chore and I didn't have much fun
  37. Cedur - and the problem on their part is that they're developping standards that normal citizens can't live up with
  38. it was a chore for you bc you only worked towards pleasing others?
  39. Eri7 lacks motivation - It was a chore because I needed to act like someone else to get better in a short amount of time , I used the smbx2 devs for my own benefit and that was to make the project beyond average but I hit a wall , they will not help me anymore and I don't have the motivation to put effort on helping myself instead
  40. Cedur - going "beyond average" maybe wasn't the right ambition?
  41. Eri7 lacks motivation - I am too ambitious with my plans , that's one of the things that makes me use smbx
  42. I want to be the best but
  43. I can't
  44. I am not putting effort
  45. I don't have the motivation to do that
  46. Cedur - just by looking at the screenshots I can already tell that you've put amazingly much effort
  47. Eri7 lacks motivation - I am just dreaming
  48. Cedur - what other episodes have you played so far?
  49. Eri7 lacks motivation - This effort is nothing compared to the effort that the smbx2 devs want from me to put in
  50. Cedur - again, ignore their demands when you clearly see that they're excessive
  51. Eri7 lacks motivation - Being fancy doesn't require an effort
  52. Its just a lazy excuse
  53. i cant ignore them
  54. they are the most important thing about the project
  55. look , i am the one at fault for thinking that i can always have shortcuts
  56. Cedur - what is a "shortcut"
  57. Eri7 lacks motivation - shortcut is a path that takes less efforts but can be bad depending on the situation
  58. my situation was that i took shortcuts for my own benefit and that made the smbx2 devs angry at me because if i did not take shortcuts i was gonna be good on my own without being depended on their help(edited)
  59. Cedur - again, have you played any classic episodes?
  60. e.g. the featured ones?
  61. Eri7 lacks motivation - yes but i dont want to do these episodes
  62. i want to go beyond
  63. i want to be unique
  64. being average doesnt suit my ambitions
  65. Cedur - these episodes themselves are already unique. And despite many custom graphics and gimmicks, they're what SMBX is "truly about", while SMBX2 is breaking the amount of possibilies beyond all limits
  66. Eri7 lacks motivation - the only way that the 2.0 project can be revived is if i had somebody that could teach me luna lua in a way that i can learn it
  67. and the smbx2 devs aren't on the same page as me
  68. Cedur - oh and I enjoy playing these episodes a lot more than a mishmash from all video games in existence
  69. the maglx2 episode was just cancerous to play
  70. Eri7 lacks motivation - look , without luna lua i will just do my stuff on 38A
  71. teascript is easier for me than luna lua
  72. anyways
  73. Cedur - that's why I applied for maglx3 host with a "gimmick" that produces simpler levels that don't make a compilation episode so tedious to play
  74. and guess what, I got shitstormed for this
  75. Eri7 lacks motivation - also to be clear, its not like i dont feel sad of this decision, right now i am feeling betrayed and very very sad, today i barely got any sleep just because of this one decision, right now i feel very stressed and i just want all of this to go away, this decision is killing me but i had to do something or else, the smbx2 devs would not know that their behavior towards me had consequences
  76. Cedur - I understand
  77. Eri7 lacks motivation - their wish was for people to play their version , to create stuff in their version but i do not want to do that , i want to betray them the way that they betrayed me , it hurts so much to do that but i am tired of being an underdog that is always wrong about everything
  78. so this is way more complex than it seems
  79. i have different reasons to do that
  80. its not only 1 thing
  81. Cedur - quite a doom loop though I don't think "betraying" is the right term
  82. Eri7 lacks motivation - yeah
  83. but thats how i feel
  84. Cedur - they forced you into a corner and you didn't give them resistance until now
  85. Eri7 lacks motivation - if they did care about me then they would try to fix this problem but even tho they spend so much time trying to "fix" me they probably don't even care that i left and wasted their time trying to teach me something
  86. so thats the end of smbx2 for me , if they just behaved a bit tiny different with me , this would not have happened(edited)
  87. Cedur - tl;dr yeah they were inconsiderate. I understand your decision
  88. and tl;dr SMBX2 would have the potential to attract masses of people not only for playing but also for designing, but in its current condition I don't expect it to ever have a wide audience making use of its special features.
