- How to write a letter of forgiveness to heal:
- 1️⃣ Picture of the person who wronged you (or you have wronged)
- 2️⃣ Ask yourself: “If I could see this person only once more, what would I say?”
- 3️⃣ Whatever comes up, write it down on paper.
- (EXAMPLE: “I wish I never met you. All you ever caused me was problems…”
- 4️⃣ After writing it down you’ll find that more comes up from inside. Continue writing it down
- 5️⃣ Really allow yourself to feel these emotions. Keep writing EVERYTHING (even if it’s rage, bad language etc.), until ALL of the energy behind the emotion disappears
- 6️⃣ Acceptance: Understand that this person wronged you (or you wronged them) because they themselves are not perfect and have gone through bad things themselves. Really try to understand why they may be that way.
- 7️⃣ Once all emotions are cleared, finish off by forgiving them (or asking for forgiveness). You may find this also releases some extra emotion.
- Letters are supposed to be emotional, not logical. Don’t let rationalising get in the way of what needs to come out. Let intuition he your guide!
- NOTES:
- - Don’t be afraid to write multiple letters. There are people I have written 10+ to for different things.
- - Do NOT hold back feelings, even if it means swearing or wishing horrible things. Understand that God knows you are doing this to clear it from your system.
- - If you feel you missed something, go over it again.
- You can either destroy the letter, keep it, or even send it to that person if you feel that’s the right thing to do.
- BONUS: Every time you write a letter, bring it up during Confession. This can help with the process of repentance.
- Happy healing!
