- Dear Esther McVey
- I am concerned that no one is telling yourself, or the other the MPs/ministers in play here about the numbers that are required for the vaccination program to be successful.
- At present the 2 million target a week, assuming no setbacks due to supply issues, will take 33 weeks (GB has a 67 million population) just to get a single dose administered, which if using a size vaccine is only 54% effective. To get both doses done on 90% of the population (the projected heard immunity requirement of the new variant is 80 to 90%) or take 60 weeks.
- If you are proposing to ease the lockdown any sooner it’s just inviting another spike in cases, and I would like to remind you we still in the second wave it has not finished yet, and we saw how much cases spiked when the government unlocked on December 2nd.
- I appreciate the business owners are leaning on you and your colleagues heavily to undo the lockdown restrictions as it’s hurting their bottom line (especially when combined with the added import export restrictions due to the new Brexit deal). However ending locked down early ( https://twitter.com/esthermcvey1/status/1348278687645523969?s=21 ) will result in more deaths, are currently set at 100,000 deaths due to Covid before the month is out at present.
- I already know you’re okay with an acceptable level of death ( https://twitter.com/esthermcvey1/status/1345446981062316033?s=21 ) but for every 1 person who dies from Covid, 19 more people will require hospitalisation.
- That’s not even factoring in the long term implications of covid (heart failure / stroke risk / lung damage) will cripple the health service (both the NHS & private sector) and lead to more people incapacitated on claiming benefits.
- As someone who works in healthcare, I humbly beg you reconsider your position
- Yours
