Super Metroid Challenge Runs

The idea:

Periodically, an organizer will have an idea for a race goal that isn't designed to be a puzzle. The organizer will announce the race goal at a predetermined time, after giving sufficient notice of that time. The racers will then have 2 weeks to prepare a video recording of their best attempt at completing the goal and send it in to the organizer.

As an example goal: Start in Spore Spawn's save room with Springball, morph, bombs, and kill 2 bosses, 2 minibosses, and end in Forgotten Highway save station. (this goal would only be accessible to those with a flashcart or emulator, as a save file would need to be provided, but I don't think that's as big of a barrier as it used to be years ago. even so, I'd still make goals that that wouldn't be required, at least to start.)

When the deadline is up, the organizer will spend some time going through the videos for legitimacy and to make a cohesive video that will be streamed to /supermetroidevents, and uploaded to a youtube account (TBD).

The hope:

I want this to have a lower barrier for entry than puzzle races, and to incentivize and give an opportunity for people to think creatively and figure out routes and strategies all their own. Collaboration is allowed, but I know for my own goals I'll probably offer up some money for certain places, so you're incentivized to keep your secrets to yourself until the reveal stream.

I'd like to have a super low money entry fee for a prize pool (something like a dollar), so I don't put up all my own money for it, but I don't want this to become about the money. The money is just a motivator for greater number of entrants, its totally unnecessary, but I'd like to hear your thoughts about this.

I'd like to get enough interest to have two separate categories of participation, TAS and RTA SS, but whether that will happen remains to be seen.

The organization:

I'll set up a google form to gauge interest better later, after you've all had some time to talk about this in #community.  I have plenty of ideas for race goals, and I have the knowledge necessary to organize it all, but if anyone else wants to organize some race goals, or has interest in helping with video stuff, I'll be glad for it.
