  1. <font size="5" face="arial">Hello, here's my little text tutorial for all you Mac users who want to install mods after the 1.6 Minecraft update.
  2.
  3.
  4. <font size="4" face="arial">Firstly, make sure you've <a href="https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/Minecraft.dmg">downloaded the new launcher</a>. Run it, log in, and start the game once to download the required files.
  5.
  6.
  7. <font size="4" face="arial">Now right-click Finder and select <strong>Go To Folder...</strong> then type <strong>~/Library/Application Support/minecraft</strong> and hit go.
  8. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/1dock_zps5629e0e8.png" border="0" alt=" photo 1dock_zps5629e0e8.png"/>
  9. You'll appear in a folder called <strong>minecraft</strong>.
  10. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/3minecraft_zps8d795582.png" border="0" alt=" photo 3minecraft_zps8d795582.png"/>
  11.
  12. <font size="4" face="arial">In here, you will see folders like <strong>assets, libraries, versions,</strong> and possibly more. If you've ran Minecraft from before 1.6, you'll have <strong>bin, resources</strong> and other folders as well, but these do nothing anymore. If you wish, you can delete them, but it doesn't really matter.
  13.
  14. <font size="4" face="arial">Open the <strong>versions</strong> folder and you should have a folder named the current version of Minecraft (for example 1.6.1). You can not mod this folder, as it will "force update" every time the game is started. Instead, <strong>right-click it and duplicate it</strong>.
  15. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/4versions_zps4d0bc976.png" border="0" alt=" photo 4versions_zps4d0bc976.png"/>
  16. Rename this folder to whatever you'd like, but do <strong>NOT</strong> use spaces or any special characters. Just name it something simple, like <strong>custom.</strong>
  17. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/6new_zpsf75d323f.png" border="0" alt=" photo 6new_zpsf75d323f.png"/>
  18.
  19.
  20. <font size="4" face="arial">Inside that folder, rename both the <strong>1.6.1.jar</strong> and the <strong>1.6.1.json</strong> to the same as your folder, like <strong>custom.jar</strong> and <strong>custom.json</strong>.
  21. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/7rename_zpsf60b2fd9.png" border="0" alt=" photo 7rename_zpsf60b2fd9.png"/>
  22.
  23. <font size="4" face="arial">Open the <strong>custom.json</strong> file with <strong>TextEdit</strong>, and edit the <strong>"id:" "1.6.1"</strong> to <strong>"id:" "custom"</strong> or whatever you named your folder and files.
  24. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/8edit_zps042e20d1.png" border="0" alt=" photo 8edit_zps042e20d1.png"/>
  25.
  26. <font size="4" face="arial">Rename the <strong>custom.jar to custom.zip</strong>, and double click it to extract the contents to a <strong>custom</strong> folder.
  27. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/9extract_zpsdcbabc30.png" border="0" alt=" photo 9extract_zpsdcbabc30.png"/>
  28. Place any mod you want inside that folder, like ModLoader for example. Also be sure to <strong>delete META-INF</strong> from there.
  29. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/9extract_zpsdcbabc30.png" border="0" alt=" photo 9extract_zpsdcbabc30.png"/>
  30.
  31. <font size="4" face="arial">Once you're done adding mods to the folder, select all the files with <strong>cmd-a</strong> and right-click one and <strong>Compress X files.</strong> You'll get a zip archive named <strong>Archive.zip</strong>.
  32. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/11compress_zpse7b0e8c3.png" border="0" alt=" photo 11compress_zpse7b0e8c3.png"/>
  33. Grab that out of the folder with all the classes. You can now dispose of the <strong>custom.zip and custom folder</strong> (not the main one inside the <strong>versions</strong> folder!).
  34.
  35. <font size="4" face="arial">Rename your <strong>Archive.zip to custom.jar</strong> or whatever you named your folder. This file will replace your old, un-modded jar file.
  36. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/12rename_zpsc46f693c.png" border="0" alt=" photo 12rename_zpsc46f693c.png"/>
  37.
  38. <font size="4" face="arial">Open your Minecraft launcher again, and on the <strong>Local Version Finder (NYI)</strong> you should see your new jar file available. On the right, make a new profile and under <strong>Use version:</strong> select the <strong>release custom</strong> that you just created.
  39. <img src="http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee483/Mudbill/MacModGuide/14usecustom_zps3a615996.png" border="0" alt=" photo 14usecustom_zps3a615996.png"/>
  40.
  41. <font size="4" face="arial">Save the profile, and if you see under the profile drop box that it says <strong>Version: release custom</strong> when you have your new profile selected, then you can log in and the mods should work if they are all updated and compatible.
  42.
  43. <font size="5" face="arial">Enjoy.
