  8. (Extracts from the NM of the DNO MD issue concerning Russian - English charts correction)

  10. Russian - English charts should be corrected by Notices to Mariners.
  11. Notices to Mariners are published weekly; each issue has an ordinal number. NM are numbered in succession during the calendar year. Numbering of the extracts corresponds to the numbering of the notices in weekly issues. Numbering of the paras in Notices to Mariners extract texts corresponds to the paras numbering in the Russian Notices to Mariners.
  12. Information on navigational situation changes in the seas and oceans of the world obtained from the Russian and foreign sources is published in Notices to Mariners of the Department of Navigation and Oceanography of the Ministry of Defence.
  13. To keep charts, pilots and other sailing directions updated the Department of Navigation and Oceanography of the Ministry of Defence requests the mariners to report information on:
  14. 1) newly discovered dangers to navigation: banks, shoals, stones, rocks, volcanic formations, etc.;
  15. 2) cases of discrepancy between charts and actual features;
  16. 3) desirability to chart conspicuous objects, landmarks and other data which may f acilitate position fixing and ensure the safety of navigation.
  17. When referring to charts and providing geographic coordinates the number of the chart referred to and its year of print should be indicated.
  18. The information should be sent to the Department of Navigation and Oceanography of the Ministry of Defence to the address:

  26. Notices to Mariners in English are subject to distribution with permission only.
  27. Listing for the purpose of distribution of the whole issue or its part and making of any modifications to the content of an issue is prohibited.

  30. To mariners
  31. Position of objects in Notices to Mariners is given in geographic or polar coordinates, longitude is indicated from Greenwich. Coordinates for chart correction are given by the largest scale chart.
  32. Directions are true and are given in degrees or bearings. Leading lines directions are doubled: the first - from the coast (from the rear beacon to the front one), the second - from the sea. Directions of light sectors limits in degrees are given from the light source and are counted clockwise.
  33. Heights are in metres. The heights of natural objects (mountains, hills, islands, rocks, etc.) as well as of aids to navigation lights are given above the sea level adopted on charts of the given area for heights calculation, and structures heights - above their base; if the height of a structure is given above the sea level, in this case a reservation is made.
  34. Visible range of lights of aids to navigation is given in miles.
  35. Depths are in metres and are given relative to the level which is adopted as Chart Datum on the charts of the given area.
