Rescue


I was stood up tonight.
Traveled far and long.  In hopes of meeting him. Seeing him
Be with him.
But he never showed. Guess life got in the way. Again.
"It happens." I tell myself. Over and over.
So I sit alone,  with only a drink as my date.
And I tell myself that after this last one,  I will go,
And save all of these pretend suitors, trying to offer their company
To a woman alone, yes, I will save them the trouble.

The drink is gone. Along with my hopes.
And as I stand to leave,  I see...
But it cannot be...but it is.
You.
Not who I came to see,  but you,  who I've longed to see.
Like a dream, my angel, my savior, emerging from the clouds
To rescue me from drowning in sorrows.

Your smile at me brightens the room,  and my mood.
And as you take me in your embrace,  I do not think to question
Why,  or how. But I accept it. And let you take me away.
To my room. So that I can give myself to you, and take you
As I've wanted to for so long.
To feel your kiss upon my skin.
To taste your lips.
Your touch making me forget the hurt I felt just moments ago.
Replaced by the elation of finally being with you.
Your fingers entwined with mine,  as you lay me down,
Your body atop mine,  and the sensations beginning to wash over me.
And I let it. I've wanted it.
And by the way you touch me,  kiss me,  make love to me....
I can tell you've wanted this too.


You rescued me from a sorrowful sea.
And now we are together at last,
Others forgotten. Just you and I.
As one.
