  1. It would be a lazy afternoon when you decided to take a look around town, your bodyguard and main… well frankly only guild employee having taken to hanging out with each other in the tavern, with the girl listening attentively as the huge man regaled her with tales of past triumphs and tragedies. He was nothing if not experienced in the ebb and flow of Adventurer life, having met all manner of situation before, his larger than life attitude propelling him from situation to situation. Even in just the brief few weeks you’d known him the man, though often exasperating, came across as a pillar of strength in the midst of any situation. He’d never stopped grinning even as he’d slaughtered those bandits that one time. You weren’t exactly sure if that was fully a good thing, but at the very least it was in its own way a reassuring thing.
  2.
  3. Still for all that you’d hardly done more than greet and be served by your assistant, observing her enough to note her own casual, cheerful demeanor. It was just a little bit exhausting just watching her move from task to task, whipping up a smile even as you threw some new set of work to be done. The upkeep of records had fallen to be your own job, too many sensitive things needed paperwork that would allow the greater guild to know that you were functioning as intended, and even without the priming for explosion that your work was set to have you fully had expected to have a few weeks’ worth of backed up paperwork to verify and file. This at the very least kept you busy more often than not over the course of the week.
  4.
  5. Still with this sudden influx of free time, you figured you could at least go out and get a better sense of your neighbors.
  6.
  7. As such the Temple seemed a useful enough place to look into.
  8.
  9. Part place of religious reverence and worship, and part hospital the local temple served both needs admirably for the small populace of the town, records you’d browsed over suggested a thriving symbiosis between the far ranging farmers and the small population of priests and nuns who worked on the shines, and prayer spaces as well as at the bedsides. Tithes and offerings from both the Guild and locals helped keep the place afloat and so healthcare was free for any who approached.
  10.
  11. You stopped infront of the thing looking upon the all but naked statue of a man and a woman pulled together in a close embrace as their heads rested against each other’s, noses touching, as a wide ribbon of what you figured was cloth rendered in stone wrapped about them hiding any potentially lewd details in a manner which suggested the embrace of something greater than the two figures themselves. In fact as you could tell the cloth part of the statue was even more detailed than the human figures, etched with fine, tiny carvings across its surface. You strained just a bit to see if you could make out said details, without moving obviously closer in your inspection.
  12.
  13. “The blessing of Diaella is quite the classic.” A voice from behind you spoke, you grimaced slightly from its proximity.
  14.
  15. “I’ve seen it before in some temples. Usually as just one among a crop of art works in dedication to the gods.” You calmed yourself and spoke, trying not to let the single beat of surprise show in your voice as you turned around to look at the man who stood behind you.
  16.
  17. He was a handsome face, young seeming in the way that felt almost like a lie, purple hair fluttering in a longish pageboy cut and carrying a staff in hand which glinted red with magical power.
  18.
  19. “True,” He replied with a smile which never reached his closed eyes. “But as our temple is dedicated to Diaella in particular above the other gods, it is only fair that their classically most recognized moment be immortalized without the distraction of their peers.”
  20.
  21. You shrugged, you’d never been big on religion beyond the obvious medical benefits. You did at least know that Diaella was the god/goddess of Bonds and Links, the Unifier. But that was common knowledge like Barthan’s role as both the Sun and mover of the firmament.
  22.
  23. “Most look upon this work and never realize the truth of it.” The man, clearly some part of the local clergy, carried on. “Diaella isn’t the man and woman, they are mere mortals being touched by the divine. Diaella is the ribbon which binds them together, supporting and comforting them as they join as one.”
  24.
  25. “Ah… I suppose that is a sensible take on it. I suppose that’s why they call it the faceless god. Never really made sense to me before what with there being statues with two different faces all the time.” You shrugged lightly, this lack of religious education being somewhat of a mark of your early lifetime as an orphaned child.
  26.
  27. “Truth is, even with much education those who are otherwise scholars make that same mistake often enough that much of the public has confused the matter.” The man spoke with a put upon voice, tilting his head back as if some common comradery had been found. “Still it is our place to serve the bonds between all. Welcome to my parish Guild Master Balthazar.”

  29. Ah, so this was the Father.
