  1. Welcome to 4990
  2.
  3. This is a Hybrid course-there are 8 modules to complete which will take you through the edTPA process to final submission.
  4.
  5. Before you dive into the course you should read through the semester schedule-which is located on the syllabus page.
  6.
  7. Additionally, you will attend mentor sessions and writing workshops…
  8.
  9. Each module has an overview, resources, assignments, a discussion tab, and explains what is coming up next…
  10.
  11. The overview will show you what the module entails
  12.
  13. Resources include examples and links that will help you complete the tasks
  14.
  15. The discussion section is intended for questions-and to share resources related to the module
  16.
  17. The what’s next section helps you to wrap your mind around upcoming tasks.
  18.
  19. The best way to access each module is to go to the home tab and then view the modules from there-this will take you though each module in the order intended…
  20.
  21. Module 1 includes registration instructions for your edTPA account-which should be completed before the first mentor session.
  22.
  23. Your edTPA Task 1 Context for Learning should be turned in to Module 1 before the first mentor session-most of you should be finished or almost finished as you worked on it over the summer…
  24.
  25. Module 2 is next which includes your lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments for the 3-5 lessons you will teach.
  26.
  27.
  28.
  29. Module 2
  30.
  31. Welcome to 4990 Module 2
  32.
  33. As a reminder the best way to access each module is to go to the home tab and view the modules from there-this will take you though each module in the order intended…
  34.
  35. At this point your may be feeling a little overwhelmed with all of your teaching responsibilities and student responsibilities.
  36.
  37. One thing to keep in mind is that after your complete Task 1 and teach your lessons- the remaining tasks do not take nearly as much time.
  38.
  39. Task 2 and 3 together-will not take your as long as task 1 to complete
  40.
  41. Module 3 will focus on the task 1 planning commentary- however you should complete the commentary before you teach your lessons.
  42.
  43. The commentary is meant to help you reflect on what you have planned and the performance assessment’s intended learning outcomes for you as a student teacher or intern.
  44.
  45. Those learning outcomes are reflected in rubrics 1-5 which correspond to specific aspects of your lesson plans and materials as well as reflection on your planning as evidenced by your commentary responses.
  46.
  47. At this point you should also consider the assets and needs of students in your class and plan to accommodate, differentiate, and seek out resources.
  48.
  49. Avoid being vague or overly simplistic when it comes to addressing the needs of students.
  50.
  51. Finally, as you are planning you should consider the assessment you will analyze for task 3.
  52.
  53. The assessment should be aligned to standards and objectives listed in your lessons.
  54.
  55. It should have a good rubric or grading criteria which students have access to
  56.
  57. It should reflect the differentiation or accommodations you have planned for diverse student needs
  58.
  59. And it should assess students individually
  60.
  61. Remember to make copies or retain copies of the completed assessment for the entire class. You will display data for the class in Task 3 and discuss three focus students that represent data patters
  62.
  63. For SPED this is one student and their running assessment record during the lessons
  64.
  65. Module 3 is next which completes Task 1 with the planning commentary
  66.
  67.
  68. Module 3
  69.
  70. Welcome to 4990 Module 3
  71.
  72. The Task 1 planning commentary is meant to help you reflect on what you have planned as connected to edTPAs teacher performance goals.
  73.
  74. This is reflected in rubrics 1-5 which correspond to specific aspects of your lesson plans and reflection on planning as evidenced by your commentary responses.
  75.
  76. Make sure to address the academic language questions clearly and thoughtfully.
  77.
  78. Use the academic language resources provided-including those available in Box.
  79.
  80. Perhaps most importantly, consult the index in your content area handbook-which will provide definitions and examples for your content area.
  81.
  82. Finally, remember that the questions in the planning commentary detailing how you are planning for students to engage in academic language will be addressed in the Task 3 commentary and you will need to provide evidence of this in Task 3.
  83.
  84. For World languages and SPED this section refers to receptive and expressive language skills rather than academic language.
  85.
  86. Consider refering to data complied from student assets and interests surveys, what your know about the the community, and the pre assessments administered-all of which should guide your instructional decisions.
  87.
  88. You may also want to explain how the instruction is based in educational research-you can find a list of research resources under the resources tab.
  89.
  90. Finally, you should explain in detail how you plan to accommodate and differentiate instruction and assessments for students with diverse strengths and needs.
  91.
  92. After you complete this module and teach your lessons you will be about 2/3s of the way finished with edTPA
  93.
  94. Module 4 is next which takes your through the video portion of Task 2
