- Welcome to 4990
- This is a Hybrid course-there are 8 modules to complete which will take you through the edTPA process to final submission.
- Before you dive into the course you should read through the semester schedule-which is located on the syllabus page.
- Additionally, you will attend mentor sessions and writing workshops…
- Each module has an overview, resources, assignments, a discussion tab, and explains what is coming up next…
- The overview will show you what the module entails
- Resources include examples and links that will help you complete the tasks
- The discussion section is intended for questions-and to share resources related to the module
- The what’s next section helps you to wrap your mind around upcoming tasks.
- The best way to access each module is to go to the home tab and then view the modules from there-this will take you though each module in the order intended…
- Module 1 includes registration instructions for your edTPA account-which should be completed before the first mentor session.
- Your edTPA Task 1 Context for Learning should be turned in to Module 1 before the first mentor session-most of you should be finished or almost finished as you worked on it over the summer…
- Module 2 is next which includes your lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments for the 3-5 lessons you will teach.
- Module 2
- Welcome to 4990 Module 2
- As a reminder the best way to access each module is to go to the home tab and view the modules from there-this will take you though each module in the order intended…
- At this point your may be feeling a little overwhelmed with all of your teaching responsibilities and student responsibilities.
- One thing to keep in mind is that after your complete Task 1 and teach your lessons- the remaining tasks do not take nearly as much time.
- Task 2 and 3 together-will not take your as long as task 1 to complete
- Module 3 will focus on the task 1 planning commentary- however you should complete the commentary before you teach your lessons.
- The commentary is meant to help you reflect on what you have planned and the performance assessment’s intended learning outcomes for you as a student teacher or intern.
- Those learning outcomes are reflected in rubrics 1-5 which correspond to specific aspects of your lesson plans and materials as well as reflection on your planning as evidenced by your commentary responses.
- At this point you should also consider the assets and needs of students in your class and plan to accommodate, differentiate, and seek out resources.
- Avoid being vague or overly simplistic when it comes to addressing the needs of students.
- Finally, as you are planning you should consider the assessment you will analyze for task 3.
- The assessment should be aligned to standards and objectives listed in your lessons.
- It should have a good rubric or grading criteria which students have access to
- It should reflect the differentiation or accommodations you have planned for diverse student needs
- And it should assess students individually
- Remember to make copies or retain copies of the completed assessment for the entire class. You will display data for the class in Task 3 and discuss three focus students that represent data patters
- For SPED this is one student and their running assessment record during the lessons
- Module 3 is next which completes Task 1 with the planning commentary
- Module 3
- Welcome to 4990 Module 3
- The Task 1 planning commentary is meant to help you reflect on what you have planned as connected to edTPAs teacher performance goals.
- This is reflected in rubrics 1-5 which correspond to specific aspects of your lesson plans and reflection on planning as evidenced by your commentary responses.
- Make sure to address the academic language questions clearly and thoughtfully.
- Use the academic language resources provided-including those available in Box.
- Perhaps most importantly, consult the index in your content area handbook-which will provide definitions and examples for your content area.
- Finally, remember that the questions in the planning commentary detailing how you are planning for students to engage in academic language will be addressed in the Task 3 commentary and you will need to provide evidence of this in Task 3.
- For World languages and SPED this section refers to receptive and expressive language skills rather than academic language.
- Consider refering to data complied from student assets and interests surveys, what your know about the the community, and the pre assessments administered-all of which should guide your instructional decisions.
- You may also want to explain how the instruction is based in educational research-you can find a list of research resources under the resources tab.
- Finally, you should explain in detail how you plan to accommodate and differentiate instruction and assessments for students with diverse strengths and needs.
- After you complete this module and teach your lessons you will be about 2/3s of the way finished with edTPA
- Module 4 is next which takes your through the video portion of Task 2
