As he made to start walking, a huge roar shook the air. The vibration caused the crystallized trees around them to shake to the point of cracking and breaking. Yogiri looked up to see countless huge spheres filling the sky.

“What are those, space forts?!” Tomochika exclaimed.

“We saw something similar before the reset. Are these perhaps their allies?” Mokomoko suggested, recalling the streamlined spaceships they had encountered near the ruins in the elven forest. Those ships had shown a clear killing intent aimed at Yogiri, so he had wiped them out, but they had never figured out who they were or what their attackers wanted.

“It doesn't seem like they're aiming clear killing intent at us, however...”

Even so, they couldn’t casually start walking to the train station now. As they watched, the space forts began to shine. A huge cannon emerged from each one, light condensing at the tip of their barrels.

“What is that, some kind of wave cannon?! And is that Alexia and the Great Sage over there?!”

“Your eyes are still as good as ever,” Yogiri commented.

Impressed she could see anything, he followed her gaze but saw nothing but a couple of specks in the distance, though it did seem the cannons were aimed at them.

“What on earth is going on here?!” Tomochika cried.

It was clear the space forts were going for the Great Sage. Their killing intent was very obviously aimed in that direction, but the damage from the cannons was also clearly overlapping Yogiri and Tomochika’s location. To Yogiri’s eyes​, his surroundings​ visibly appeared to be dyed​ in darkness.

“It doesn’t seem like they care about us either way, but I don’t want to get wrapped up in this...”

When he thought that, Yogiri's power activated automatically at roughly the same time.

駅 に 行こ う と 歩き だし た ところ で、 轟音 が 鳴り響い た。 　 大気 が 震え て いる。 あたり の 結晶 化 し た 草木 も ビリビリ と 振動 し て い て、 それ だけで 崩れ て いく ほどの 大 音量 だ。 　 夜霧 は 空 を 見上げ た。 　 巨大 な 何 かが、 空 を 覆っ て い た。 無数 の 球体 状 の 物体 が、 空 一面 に 展開 し て いる の だ。「宇宙 要塞 的 な やつ!?」 『似 た よう なのを 前回 の 世界 でも 見 た が、 あやつら の 仲間 か？』 　 も こ も こ が 言う のは エルフ の 森 の 遺跡 付近 で 見かけ た 流線型 の 宇宙船 らしき 物体 の こと だろ う。 　 夜霧 たち に 殺意 を 向け て き た ので 全滅 さ せ た が、 何者 で 何 を し に き た のかは よく わから なかっ た。 「俺 たち に 明確 な 殺意 を 向け てる わけ じゃ なさ そう だ けど……」 　 さすが に この 状況 を 放置 し て、 駅 で のんびり する わけ にも いか ない。 　 空 を 見上げ て いる と、 宇宙 要塞 らしき もの が 輝き はじめ た。 　 宇宙 要塞 の 中 ほどに 巨大 な 砲塔 が 出現 し、 そこ に 光 が 凝縮 さ れ て いる よう だっ た。 「波動 的 な やつ 撃と う し て ない!?　 って、 あっち に いる のは アレクシア って のと 大賢 者!?」 「相変わらず 目 が いい なー」 　 感心 し ながら 夜霧 も 知 千 佳 の 視線 の 先 を 見 た。 　 豆粒 ほどにしか 見え ない 何 かが 空 に 浮かん で い て、 確か に 砲塔 は そちら に 向け られ て いる よう だっ た。 「何 が どう なっ て こんな こと に なっ て ん の!?」 　 宇宙 要塞 の 攻撃 目標 が 大 賢者 なのは 間違い ない。 殺意 は 明確 に そちら へと 向け られ て いる。 　 だが、 その 余波 とでも 言う べき 殺意 は 夜霧 たち にも 届い て い た。 　 夜霧 の 目 には、 あたり が 闇 に 染まっ て いく よう に 見え た の だ。 「関係 なさ そう だ けど、 巻き込ま れる わけ には いか ない し な……」そう 思っ た のと、 夜霧 の 力 が 自動的 に 発動 し た のは ほぼ 同じ タイミング だっ た。
