- Final Fantasy VII
- Platform: PS1
- Released (d.m.y):
- 31.01.1997 (J)
- 03.09.1997 (NA)
- 17.11.1997 (PAL)
- Based on: PAL-version (SCES-00867, SCES-10867, SCES-20867) (and PS4)
- - A single save file takes 1 block of space.
- - There's no way to return to the title screen from the 'Insert Disc x'
- screen.
- - The play time counter maxes out at 99:59:59.
- - All status ailments, except for Fury and Sadness, are removed at the
- end of battle.
- - Exp is *not* divided among active party members. Characters outside
- of the active party receive 50% Exp.
- - Due to a programming error, your Magic Defense is not affected by
- anything other than your Spirit stat. As a result, armor will *not*
- increase your Magic Defense.
- - Enemies will take double damage when attacked from behind, but your
- characters will only take double damage when attacked from behind in
- a pincer encounter.
- - If a character's current HP is ever 7777, the character will enter
- All 7 Fever in which they will attack the enemy 64 times for 7777 pod
- each (for a total of 497 728 pod). The fever can only occur once per
- battle for each character. After the fever is over, the character's
- damage and healing values will still be set to 7777 for as long their
- HP remains at 7777.
- - Don't forget that, while you can't use a PS2 memory card on PS1 games,
- you can still store PS1 save files on a PS2 memory card.
- - Changes in the PS4 version:
- × Magic Defense bug is fixed.
- × Can't change the button config.
- × Can adjust audio levels, allowing you to turn the music off.
- × You have the option to return to the title screen from the menu.
- The game will occasionally crash when using said option.
- × Faster cursor movement.
- × Similar to the original FFIV, rapid input after d-pad or L/R input
- will result in the d-pad or L/R input to be doubled. (A misguided
- homage, perhaps?)
- × All slots have a low frame rate, making it even harder to hit what
- you want.
- × The reticle in the Speed Square mini-game moves very fast, making
- it rather hard to hit targets.
- × When betting on the chocobo races, the race is sped up.

- Items (nc): Potion, Potion \\\ Sector 1 - Platform ||
- Default (Cloud): Buster Sword (Unique), Bronze Bangle (Artifact),
- Ice GM, Lightning GM
- - You start off at Level 6 with 3 Potions, 1 Ether, 1 Phoenix Down,
- 240 Gil, and the GM (Green Materia, ie. Magic Materia) Ice and Lightning
- (the Materia menu becomes available soon after the first dungeon).
- - Please take some time to customize the settings in the Config menu.
- Here's what I use:
- Cursor Memory
- ATB Mode Wait
- Battle Speed Max
- Battle Message Speed Above normal
- Field Message Speed Max
- Battle Camera Fixed
- Controller
- Confirm R1
- Cancel R2
- Menu L1
- EXT L2
- Left 1 Square
- Right 1 X
- Left 2 Triangle
- Right 2 O
- - Check the knocked out soldier(s) for two Potions.
- - Press Select on the field to see paths leading to other areas (not
- present in the original Japanese release).
- - Press Select during battle to see target names and command / item
- descriptions.
- - If you pause the game during battle, the play time counter will halt.
- There's no way to pause the game on the field.
- - Note that, if you check your status right away, the game tells you that
- Cloud has 610 Exp with 35 left for the next level. However, at the end
- of the fixed encounter, you only have 6 points remaining.
- \\\ Sector 1 - Station ||
- - Talk to the NPCs and you'll get the chance to name Cloud and Barret.
- Characters cannot be renamed (again).
- \\\ No.1 Reactor ||
- Items: Phoenix Down, Potion, Restore GM
- PC: Barret
- Default (Barret Lv6): Gatling Gun (Unique), Bronze Bangle (Artifact)
- Boss: Guard Scorpion
- - Barret joins the party.
- - You can change a character's row by choosing Order in the menu (hit
- Confirm twice). In battle, you can switch rows by using the Change
- command (press left in the menu).
- - As usual, characters and enemies in the back row will deal and receive
- less damage (in the case of non-ranged physical attacks). Since most of
- Barret's weapons are long-range, you can set him in the back row to
- reduce the damage he takes. Of course, if you leave him in the front,
- he can use Limit Breaks more often.
- - Like in FFVI, you can press the Menu button in battle to switch
- between characters who are ready to take action. Pressing EXT will
- make the command window disappear.
- - In menus, you can use Left 1 and Right 1 to switch between characters
- and scroll pages.
- - Note that, if you return to the earlier areas, you have to use Circle
- to examine the glowing panel that opens the elevator doors even if you
- changed the button settings.
- - You'll fight the boss soon after the save point.
- [Boss]
- - 800 HP, 100 Exp, 100 Gil, 10 AP, Assault Gun (Artifact)
- - Attacking him while his tail is up will prompt him to counter with
- Tail Laser (ab. 70 pod to all). You may want to eat a couple of those
- just to fill your Limit gauges.
- - Afterwards, you have 10 minutes to escape before the Makou reactor
- blows. Make sure you talk to Jessie in the area with the ladders.
- Item: Potion \\\ Sector 8 ||
- - You can fight the soldiers or run away from them. I suggest you fight
- them to earn some kills for the new Limit Break. Learning the first Lv2
- and Lv3 Limit Breaks requires a fair number of kills and learning the
- second LB of a level requires you to use the first one a bunch of times.
- \\\ Last Train from Midgar ||
- - Talk to Jessie then approach Barret.
- Items: All BM, Ether \\\ Sector 7 Slums ||
- Item (nc): 1500 Gil
- PC: Tifa
- Default (Tifa): Leather Glove (Unique), Bronze Bangle
- Shop:
- Potion 50 Gil Assault Gun 350 Gil
- Antidote 80 Gil Iron Bangle (Artifact) 160 Gil
- Phoenix Down 300 Gil
- Fire GM 600 Gil
- Ice GM 600 Gil
- Lightning GM 600 Gil
- Restore GM 750 Gil
- - There's nothing at the Train Graveyard, although you can fight some
- battles if you want.
- - Enter the bar and you can name Tifa. Try to leave then ride the pinball
- machine down. Approach Barret and try to leave again.
- - When you're talking with Barret the next day, you can go through the
- Materia tutorial if you want. You can unequip Materia and accessories
- with the Menu button and switch between the equipment menu and Materia
- menu with EXT.
- - Visit the Beginner's House to find the items. Pairing Restore with All
- would allow you to heal your party quite well (use Left 1 / Right 1 to
- switch between all targets and single target). Do note the Strength and HP
- penalties that come with Green and Red/Summon Materia. Your damage output
- will come mainly from physical attacks, so don't just automatically equip
- everything just because you have empty slots.
- - The level of the All materia determines how many times you can multi-cast
- during a given battle (5 at most). The limit applies to each spell
- individually.
- - You should level up a few All materias even if you don't need them.
- Once mastered, you can sell them for a *very* adequate amount of gil.
- × Trophy note: You need to accumulate 100 000 000 gil. One All gives
- you 1,4 (35 000 AP to master), so you need to sell 72 of them. You
- can eventually buy All materias in late Disc 2, but the ones you find
- should be enough (you can get 5 on Disc 1).
- Items (nc): Phoenix Down, Hi-Potion \\\ Inside Train ||
- - Approach Tifa and an alarm will go off. You're supposed to keep
- heading towards the front of the train, but it doesn't matter even if
- the timer runs out. You could try and get the two items, though. You
- can get the first one from the guy in the back of the first car and
- the second one from the guy closest to the camera in the second car.
- A guy in the third car will pick-pocket you, but you don't have to deal
- with that if you get caught in the second car.
- Party: Cloud, Barret, Tifa \\\ Winding Tunnel ||
- - The tunnel consists of 6 areas plus the south-most area where you can't
- pass (and where you can trigger fixed encounters) and the north-most
- area where you need to go down the hole.
- - The Rocket Launchers here always target the character with the lowest
- cHP. This is usually Tifa, but you can manipulate your HP figures and
- have them attack anyone you want.
- Items: Ether, Potion \\\ 4th Street Plate Int. ||
- Item: Tent \\\ Lower Sector 4 Plate ||
- Item: Ether \\\ No.5 Reactor ||
- Boss: Air Buster
- [Boss]
- - 1200 HP, 180 Exp, 150 Gil, 16 AP, Titan Bangle
- TPC: Aeris \\\ Church ||
- Default (Aeris): Guard Stick (Unique), Bronze Bangle
- - Chat with Aeris and she'll join. Move her to the front row and give
- her the Titan Bangle you just got.
- - Aeris will not be available after Disc 1.
- - In the next part, you can try and help Aeris by pushing down the
- barrels.
- B 1: A 2: B 3: D
- A D
- C
- Party: Cloud, Aeris \\\ Sector 5 Slums ||
- Items: Ether, Cover PM, Potion, Phoenix no O
- Special: Turtle's Paradise Flyer #1
- - In one of the houses, you'll find a sleeping kid. Check the drawer
- here to find 5 gil, but do *not* take it.
- - Check the notes on the wall in the same room to find the first
- Turtle's Paradise Flyer. If you find all six of these, you'll get
- a little reward later.
- - You'll find the items in and outside of Aeris's house.
- - Talk to Elmyra then head upstairs. Once you're in control, walk
- downstairs to sneak out without alerting Aeris. You'll nonetheless
- run into her again at the path leading to Sector 6.
- \\\ Wall Market ||
- Items (nc): Cotton Dress / Satin Dress / Silk Dress,
- Wig / Dyed Wig / Blonde Wig, Pharmacy Coupon,
- Disinfectant / Deodorant / Digestive,
- Cologne / Flower Cologne / Sexy Cologne,
- Glass Tiara / Ruby Tiara / Diamond Tiara, Member's Card,
- Lingerie / Bikini Briefs (all Key)
- Shop:
- Hi-Potion 300 Gil Metal Knuckle 320 Gil
- Eye Drop 50 Gil Assault Gun 350 Gil
- Echo Screen 100 Gil Mythril Rod 370 Gil
- Hyper 100 Gil Titan Bangle 280 Gil
- Tranquilizer 100 Gil Mythril Armlet 350 Gil
- - Metal Knuckle, 3 Mythril Armlets = 1370 gil
- - About Hyper and Tranquilizer:
- × Hyper can be used to cure Sadness and inflict Fury. A character under
- Fury will experience drastically increased Limit Gauge growth. However,
- as a trade-off, the character's accuracy is reduced.
- × Tranquilizer can be used to cure Fury and inflict Sadness. A character
- under Sadness will take less damage, but their Limit Gauge fills much
- slower (and not just because of the reduced damage).
- - Ask a guy at the Honeybee Inn about Tifa, then go talk to the guy in
- front of Corneo's mansion. Your next task is collecting some stuff in
- order to get into the mansion.
- × Dress: Talk to the woman at the boutique then talk to her father
- at the bar.
- × Wig: Gym.
- × Tiara: The guy at the Materia shop wants you to get an item from
- the vending machine in the inn (spend a night).
- × Cologne: Get something to eat at the diner and compliment the food
- to get a Pharmacy Coupon. Use the coupon at the pharmacy, then take
- the item to the person using the facilities in the bar.
- × You can also get a Member's Card from the guy near the path leading
- to Honeybee Inn.
- - Only the dress and wig are necessary. You can go ahead and hit the
- mansion once you have those. What items you get makes little difference
- (no extra reward or anything).
- Items: Ether, Phoenix Down, Hyper \\\ Don Corneo's ||
- - Find Tifa then meet the Don.
- - Beat up Corneo's lackeys then find the girls. Don't miss the Hyper
- behind Corneo's bed.
- Items: Potion, Steal YM \\\ Sewer ||
- Boss: Aps
- - You'll fight the boss almost right away.
- [Boss]
- - 1800 HP, 240 Exp, 253 Gil, 22 AP
- \\\ Train Graveyard ||
- Items: Hi-Potion, Potion, Potion, Potion, Hi-Potion
- Items (nc): Hi-Potion, Echo Screen, Ether
- Theft: Striking Staff (Eligor)
- - There are some items hidden in the barrels.
- - Hang around in the northern area until you manage to steal a Striking
- Staff.
- - Aeris will leave the party once you reach the support pillar. Have her
- heal you, and de-equip her Mythril Armlet, so you can give it to Barret.
- Boss: Reno \\\ Plate Support ||
- - You'll reunite with Barret and fight the boss at the top.
- [Boss]
- - 1000 HP, 290 Exp, 500 Gil, 22 AP
- - You'll need to attack your own characters in order to get rid of
- Pyramid. This will *not* damage the character.
- Item (nc): Turbo Ether \\\ Sector 5 Slums ||
- - Talk to the kid in the house where you found the first Turtle's
- Paradise Flyer. Assuming you refrained from looting his stash, he'll
- give you a Turbo Ether.
- - Head to Aeris's house for a scene.
- Item: Sense YM \\\ Sector 6 Park ||
- Item: 3× Batteries (Artifact, Temp) \\\ Wall Market ||
- Shop: Cover PM - 1000 Gil
- - Pick up the batteries for 300 gil from the guy in the weapon store.
- - The next dungeon is the longest so far. Make sure you're prepared.
- I recommend having 3 Restore Materias.
- - Go to the area east of Corneo's place and climb up the wires.
- Item (nc): Ether \\\ Plate Section ||
- - You'll need the batteries here. Soon you'll reach Shinra Headquarters.
- Item: Elixir \\\ Shinra HQ - Stairs ||
- - If you want everything right away, you need to take the side entrance
- and get the Elixir halfway through the stairs, then go all the way back
- down and take the main entrance. I suggest you leave the Elixir and get
- it on Disc 2 when there's another item in there as well.
- Special: Turtle's Paradise Flyer #2 \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 1F ||
- - Check the notice board for the second Turtle's Paradise newsletter.
- Do *not* miss it!
- - You can buy some items on the second floor. When you're ready, take
- the elevator.
- Item (nc): Keycard 60 (Key) \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 59F ||
- - After some elevator action, you'll end up on 59F. Drop the guards and
- you'll obtain your first keycard.
- \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 60F ||
- - You have to sneak past the guards here. You can fight them, but you
- can't fight your way through.
- Item (nc): Keycard 62 (Key) \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 61F ||
- - Talk to one of the NPCs here and reply '....' to get the second keycard.
- Items (nc): Keycard 65, Elemental BM \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 62F ||
- - Talk to the mayor once, then take the elevator all the way down and
- save your game. You need to guess the password right on your first try
- in order to get the Elemental Materia.
- Items: Coupon A, Coupon B, Coupon C \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 63F ||
- Items (nc): Star Pendant, Four Slots (Artifact), All BM
- - Save your game on 64F before attempting this. You need to get the 3
- coupons, but you can only open 3 doors. Get to the west-most room by
- opening 2 doors, then use the air duct to get the remaining two.
- Items (nc): Phoenix Down, Ether \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 64F ||
- - You can rest in the room with the save point.
- - Mess with the vending machines.
- \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 67F ||
- Theft: Hardedge (SOLDIER 3rd), Carbon Bangle (Moth Slasher)
- - You don't have much room to move in, but it'll do. Steal a Hardedge
- and at least 3 Carbon Bangles. Do it *before* fighting the next boss.
- \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 65F ||
- Items: Midgar Parts, Midgar Parts, Midgar Parts, Midgar Parts,
- Midgar Parts, Keycard 66
- - You need to fetch and place the Midgar Parts into the model city one
- by one.
- \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 66F ||
- - Climb into the ventilation shaft in the bathroom, so you can eavesdrop
- on the meeting.
- Item: Poison GM \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 67F ||
- - If you don't have the Hardedge and Carbon Bangles yet, get them *now*.
- \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 68F ||
- Items: Enemy Skill YM (Artifact), Potion, Potion, Potion, Potion
- Item (nc): Keycard 68
- PC: Nanaki
- Default (Nanaki): Mythril Clip (Artifact), Mythril Armlet, Fire GM,
- All BM, Sense YM
- Boss: Sample H0512
- - Nanaki (aka Red XIII) will join you right before the boss.
- [Boss]
- - 1000 HP, 360 Exp, 250 Gil, 36 AP, Talisman
- - Equip the Star Pendant for this one.
- - He can revive his goons a couple of times before running out of MP.
- - Once you have more than one Enemy Skill materia, you should equip
- all of them on the same character when learning single-target skills.
- Note, however, that, when you do this, you can only learn skills that
- haven't been learned by any of the materias.
- - Afterwards, head to an elevator, and some scenes will take place.
- Head to the top floor. Cloud will be taking on a boss solo while Barret,
- Nanaki and Aeris take care of another one. There's one more boss after
- that. You can choose your party for that one.
- \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 69F ||
- Boss(es): Hundred Gunner & Heli Gunner (separate phases)
- - Aeris, Barret and Nanaki are up first. Take the elevator to start the
- battle.
- [Boss]
- - 1600 HP / 1000 HP, 250 Exp, 200 Gil, 25 AP
- - You can't hit the boss without ranged attacks. Thunder is a good choice.
- \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 70F ||
- Lost & Found: Protect Vest (Rufus), Guard Source (Dark Nation)
- Boss: Rufus (& Dark Nation)
- [Boss]
- - 500 HP. 310 Exp, 650 Gil, 42 AP in total
- - Dark Nation is in the back row, but doesn't have much HP (140).
- \\\ Midgar Highway ||
- Boss: Motor Ball
- - You'll fight the last boss after the mini-game. He gets a back attack
- on you, so switch your characters to the back row in advance.
- [Boss]
- - 2600 HP, 440 Exp, 350 Gil, 45 AP, Star Pendant
- Theft: Atomic Scissors (Custom Sweeper) \\\ Midgar Area ||
- E-Skill: Matra Magic (Custom Sweeper)
- - You can only find Custom Sweepers in the barren wastelands.
- Item: Peacemaker \\\ Kalm ||
- Items (nc): Ether, Ether, Guard Source, Ether, Megalixir, PHS (Key)
- Shop:
- Mythril Saber 1000 gil Heal GM 1500 gil
- Mythril Claw 750 gil Earth GM 1500 gil
- Cannon Ball 950 gil Poison GM 1500 gil
- Full Metal Staff 800 gil Steal YM 1200 gil
- Mythril Armlet 350 gil Sense YM 1000 gil
- - Keep checking the cupboard at the inn to get the Megaelixir.
- - A fairly lengthy flashback scene will take place.
- × During the flashback, go to Tifa's house. Check the piano on the
- second floor and choose 'Yeah, I jammed on it.'
- - Afterwards, you'll obtain the PHS, which allows you to switch party
- members whenever you can save.
- - Use Exchange in the Materia menu to easily swap materia between
- characters even if they're not part of the active party.
- - Do *not* venture into the marshlands west of the Chocobo Farm! The
- marshlands are home to the Midgar Zolom (not a random encounter, it's
- actually visible). Even if you somehow manage to put up a fight, he'll
- probably just eject you from the battle in the end.
- \\\ Chocobo Farm ||
- Items (nc): Choco/Mog RM, Chocobo Lure PM - 2000 gil
- Shop:
- Gysahl Greens 100 gil
- Krakka Greens 250 gil
- Tantal Greens 400 gil
- Pahsana Greens 800 gil
- Curiel Greens 1000 gil
- Mimett Greens 1500 gil
- - Talk to the chocobo and reply 'Kweh' to obtain your first Summon Materia.
- Summons can only be used a limited number of times per battle as determined
- by the materia's level.
- - The guy in the barn will sell you the Chocobo Lure Materia for 2000 gil.
- You need to have this equipped in order to be able to encounter chocobos.
- You should buy some greens as well. You need to kill all the enemies in
- a chocobo battle before the chocobo runs off. Using greens kind of helps,
- but it may still be difficult.
- × You should master the Chocobo Lure, then get the new one up to Lv3.
- \\\ Chocobo Farm Region ||
- E-Skill: L4 Suicide (Mu), Chocobuckle (Chocobo)
- - The Mus are somewhat rare, so learning L4 Suicide will take a while.
- They don't use it often either.
- - A Chocobo will use Chocobuckle if you hit it with L4 Suicide after
- giving it Mimett Greens. L4 Suicide actually has to hit it. Around here,
- it only works on the one that comes with two Elfadunks. It's much easier
- to get later and it's not useful at all.
- \\\ Mythril Mine ||
- Items: Long Range PM, Ether, Tent, Mind Source, Elixir, Hi-Potion
- Theft: Grand Glove (Madouge)
- E-Skill: Flame Thrower (Ark Dragon)
- - Long Range is recommended for melee characters, so they can hit flying
- enemies. There aren't many of them at all, but still. You could also
- place the characters in the back row, but, as already mentioned, keeping
- them in the front would allow you to get Limit Breaks faster. I rarely
- set my characters in the back row myself.
- \\\ Fort Condor ||
- - South of the mine is Fort Condor. You can play a mini-game here,
- but it takes a good amount of money. If you don't have that much and
- don't feel like grinding (not that it takes that long to get enough
- to cover the first two battles), you can just ignore it.
- - The first battle will cost you about 5000 gil and you'll receive
- a Magic Comb as a reward. If you use Nanaki, it's well worth it.
- - New battles become available after reaching certain points in the
- story. You can only fight the most recent one, so it's easy to miss
- battles. However, most of the rewards are not even remotely worth the
- money and time spent backtracking.
- - The second battle will be available very soon. If you hate confusion,
- it's well worth the roughly 15k it takes to beat it, as the reward is
- an accessory that makes you immune to confusion (the in-game description
- doesn't actually tell you that on the PS4, though).
- - With a highly aggressive strategy, it's possible to end the battles
- by killing only two enemies, which saves a lot of time and money. The
- battle ends once no enemies remain on the field. If you form a "ladder"
- to the bottom of the hill by placing Fighters, you can take out the
- first two enemies before any more appear.
- Theft: Boomerang (Formula) \\\ Junon Region ||
- PC: Yuffie
- Default (Yuffie): 4-Point Shuriken (Unique), Carbon Bangle, Throw YM
- - It's now possible to get Yuffie to join the party. You can encounter
- her in the forests. After fighting her, choose the following dialog
- options.
- All right
- ---> Not interested
- ---> Petrified
- You're gonna lose again
- Go ahead...
- ---> Wait a second!
- ---> That's right
- You kiddin'?
- What's your name?
- ---> Let's hurry on
- \\\ Junon ||
- Items: Enemy Skill YM, Mind Source, Luck Source, Power Source,
- Guard Source, Speed Source
- Items (nc): Shiva RM, Grenade, 1/35 Soldier, 1/35 Soldier, Force Stealer

- Striking Staff 1300 gil Mythril Clip (Artifact) 800 gil
- - Assuming you're ready to leave the continent, head to the beach
- to fight the boss.
- [Boss]
- - 2500 HP, W:N (Wind), 550 Exp, 1000 Gil, 52 AP, Power Wrist
- - This one's a flyer, so Long Range will come in handy.
- - A character stuck in a bubble can't act and will gradually lose HP.
- Cast magic on the bubble to get rid of it.
- - Afterwards, go rest in the old woman's house near the entrance.
- - The second Fort Condor battle is now available.
- - Cloud will be going solo for a while (no battles, though. Well, not
- unless you leave Junon.). The dolphin jump is really quite easy. When
- you miss, just blow the whistle again right where you land.
- - You'll be disguising as a Shinra soldier and taking part in the
- ceremony.
- - I still haven't figured out what you're supposed to do in the parade
- mini-game. The rewards aren't that impressive either way.
- - After practicing for the second mini-game (and you'll want to get
- that one right), you're free to explore the town.
- - Just in case, save your game at the inn before doing the send-off
- mini-game. You need to get at least 100 points in order to receive
- the Force Stealer. Not hard at all really (the rewards for lower scores
- are Silver Glasses or HP Plus, but you definitely want the weapon).
- \\\ Cargo Ship ||
- Items: Ether, All BM, Wind Slash, Ifrit RM
- Theft: Shinra Beta (Artifact) (Marine)
- Boss: Jenova Birth
- - Speak to your party members then talk to Tifa again, and the guy
- blocking your path to the front of the ship should disappear. Talk
- to Barret twice.

- \\\ Mt. Corel ||
- Items: W Machine Gun, Turbo Ether, Transform GM, Tent,
- Mind Source, Power Source
- Items (nc): Wizard Staff, Star Pendant
- - Be sure to save your game at the railroad tracks. There are three
- parts where the tracks will break. As you're falling down, you need
- to hold either left or right while hitting Circle in order to get the
- treasure (Wizard Staff on the left, Star Pendant on the right).
- - Transform allows you to cast Mini (10 MP) and Toad (Lv2, 14 MP).

- - Use the ropeway at North Corel to get here. Don't buy the Gold Ticket
- yet. You can easily afford it later.
- - The holes at the main terminal are as follows:
- Event Speed Round Ghost Battle Wonder Chocobo
- - Head to the Wonder Square and Cait Sith (pronounced 'ket she') will
- join the party.
- - The Wonder Square is, of course, the place where you will get to
- experience the joy of screwing up double shots in Super Dunk. In any
- case, it's the best way to get GP for now (200 gil per game). Later in
- the game, you can just buy GP, which makes things less aggravating.
- - If you complete the Mog House and talk to the guy behind you, you'll
- get 30 GP (only once). The game is very simple. You just feed him some
- Kupo nuts on two occasions. It's easy to tell when he's had enough.
- At that point you just wait.
- - Scoring 10k on G Bike for the first time gives you a Speed Source.
- - Do *not* trade your GP for any of the items (the ???? one for 500 GP
- is just a nut).
- - Head to the Speed Square for a story event.
- - The Speed Square offers a rail shooter mini-game that costs 10 GP.
- I suggest you try it once then move on.

- need to keep Barret in your party for now. (You'll get the Materia later)
- - Next, head north past the guy who was blocking your path earlier.
- You'll find an area with a fence and a pit. Head east along the north
- side of the pit to find Dyne (do *not* go into the desert).
- × Pick up Matra Magic and Laser in the area with the pit or the one after
- that (with the wrecked cars).
- × If you head out into the desert, you *will* get lost. In that case,
- you need to wander around until you run into a chocobo carriage. That'll
- take you back to the area with the pit.
- - Barret will be taking on Dyne solo.
- [Boss]
- - 1200 HP, 600 Exp, 750 Gil, 55 AP, Silver Armlet
- - Unfortunately, you haven't earned your ticket to freedom quite yet.
- You need to do some chocobo racing as well. You have to finish 1st place.
- Whenever you lose, you'll be given a better chocobo (three times) until
- you pretty much can't lose.
- × Trophy note: Winning a chocobo race is supposed to give you a trophy,
- but it seems to be a little glitchy. If you don't get it here, you can
- try again on Disc 2/3.
- - Afterwards, you'll obtain your first vehicle, the buggy. You can use
- it to cross rivers. If you didn't get Aqualung earlier, you can easily
- get it now by driving in the desert.
- - You can now play at the Battle Square, but I suggest you ignore it
- for now.
- - You can take the buggy to the eastern continent by riding it into
- Costa del Sol and then taking the ship. When you get to Junon, you can
- either use the air taxi by talking to the guy on the street or run all
- the way through town to use the elevator.
- E-Skill: White Wind (Zemzelett - Manipulate) \\\ Junon Region ||

- part is that he'll only use Beta when you hit him when he's low on HP.
- He could easily eject two of your characters before that, so give both

- - Before you go in, talk to one of the NPCs outside the arena and choose

- to receive a pair of Sprint Shoes.
- - In case you're not that familiar with how things work here, the Battle
- Arena challenge has you fight up to 8 battles with a single character
- (10 GP per attempt). After each round, a slot reel is used to force a
- penalty on you. You need to make it to round 8 in order to score big,
- as BP is received from the penalties and the 7th reel gives you the most
- points by far (except for No Penalty and HP Restore, since, you know,
- they're not penalties at all). Break All Materia on the 7th gives you
- 10 000 BP. Break GM is almost as much. Break Weapon, Seal Items and
- Break PM are also worth a good amount, although Break Weapon is only
- manageable if Enemy Skill is still intact or if you've boosted you Str.
- You lose all your BP when you leave the area.
- - Equip the Nail Bat, Gigas Armlet, Ribbon, Enemy Skill, HP Plus and

- Omnislash 32 000 BP
- W Summon YM 64 000 BP
- - The Gold Saucer has reopened.
- - You can now buy 100 GP for 10 000 gil from the 'GP man.' He'll appear
- occasionally behind the save point at the station. You can make a lot
- of GP in the chocobo races as well, though.
- - Exp Plus (Double Exp at Lv2) will come in handy, as the Exp doesn't
- really get any better than what it is in the Mideel region.
- - You can also take part in chocobo racing. Racing (and winning) with
- your chocobos increases your chances of getting special chocobos when
- breeding but is by no means necessary. When racing, you'll want to hold
- R1+R2 to regenerate your stamina. Assuming the chocobo's stats are good
- enough, all you really need to do aside from that is increase your speed
- to max right away (with Square).
- - After winning a few times, the chocobo will go up in rank. You can't
- drop in rank and you can only race in the rank the chocobo is at. As a
- result, most chocobos will simply no longer be able to win once they
- reach a high enough rank, as their stats just aren't up to the task
- anymore.
- - Stuff you can win in the races: Counter Attack PM (AS),
- Enemy Away PM (AS), Sneak Attack BM (AS), Cat's Bell (AS), Sprint Shoes (AS),
- Precious Watch (S), Chocobracelet (S), Magic Counter BM (S).
- × Enemy Away appears as a common prize, so you can easily pick that up.
- - When betting, the odds of getting the best item are a measly 4%. When
- racing, it's 20% assuming you manage to win.
- - If you manage to win several S rank races consecutively, Ester will
- give you a bunch of stuff.
- \\\ Chocobos ||
- - You may want to do some chocobo breeding at this point (if you already
- haven't). At the very least, I suggest getting a Green Chocobo so you
- can explore the Ancient Forest on Disc 2. Then there's Lucrecia's cave,
- but you can get there with the sub too. Eventually, you'll be able to
- reach the Ancient Forest without a chocobo as well, but you shouldn't
- wait. It's an optional dungeon, but there are some pretty nice items there.
- - You can start by catching two Great Chocobos in the Mideel region (you
- did already rent some stables, right?). These are encountered along with
- Spirals (the others won't do).
- - The chocobo's sex is determined when you move them in. Move the first
- one, then go out and save so that the other one will have the opposite
- gender. If you keep getting the same, you should go in and out of the
- barn a few times to mix the RNG.
- - Once you have the right chocobos, you need to increase their stats by
- feeding them Sylkis Greens. I gave them 40 each in two batches (ie. 20+20).
- - After that, you just mate them with a Carob Nut (save first, of course).
- You can get both a Green and a Blue chocobo this way. Fairly easy even
- without racing. If you want a Black one, you'll need a Blue and Green
- of opposite gender (plus a Carob Nut). You'll likely need to race them,
- as your odds aren't that good without doing so. Then there's the Gold
- one, but I usually don't bother with it myself.
- - To get a Gold Chocobo, breed the Black Chocobo with a Wonderful
- Chocobo. You can catch one in the north continent. You'll know it's
- a Wonderful Chocobo when there are one or two Jumpings with it (but
- no other enemies). Boost both of their stats substantially and race
- them at least a few times. The nut you need to use is a Zeio Nut.
- - When a chocobo is unable to mate (after mating or being born), you
- need to fight a bunch of battles before you can mate them.
- - The stuff you can get with the colored chocobos are:
- Blue: Quadra Magic BM (northeast Mideel)
- Green: Mime YM (south of Wutai), Lucrecia's cave (east of Nibelheim),
- Ancient Forest (south of Cosmo Canyon)
- Black: HP <-> MP PM (north of Corel)

- running away from them.
- - Right, so, in order to make progress in this dungeon, you need to pick
- up stuff and release them in specific places.
- - Standing on a bag when a frog leaps out is needed to reach some places.
- - Slash-All changes your normal attack so that you'll attack all targets.
- The damage is about 2/3 of normal and is unaffected by row modifiers.

- final dungeon first, though. If you want to get all your characters to
- Lv99 (I only do my main party), you should try and optimize it. The 5

- - In the fourth area, you'll see your characters standing around. The
- path splits, and you need to choose where to send each character (the
- path splits again when going down the left path). Each character you
- send down a path you do *not* take will pick up an item on their way
- and give it to you at the bottom. *However*, these items will not
- actually be gone until you trigger the rendezvous scene. What this means
- is that, if you check the other paths after reaching the bottom, you
- can actually obtain duplicates of these items. Most of the stuff is of
- little importance, but there are two items you really want to get. These
- are the Mystile and the Imperial Guard. You'll get these by sending Tifa
- to the right and Cid to left-up. Here's what I chose:
- Right: Tifa, Nanaki, Cait, Vincent
- Left-up: Cid
- Left-down: Cloud, Barret, Yuffie
- - If you make a mistake, you have to reset the game, as the game doesn't
- give you a chance to change your choices.
- - The characters outside of your party after splitting up will not gain
- Exp until you rendezvous.
- - The Magic Counter Materia is in the second area of the left-down path.
- You really can't see it at all.
- - Mega All PM affects Materia that All BM would not (such as Morph). It
- also changes Attack to Slash-All (160 000 AP to master).
- - You'll know you're at the bottom when the music stops. Do *not* get
- too close to the steps on the left. Feel free to use the Save Crystal,
- but I recommend using a different slot (you can't use PHS at this save
- point). You need to go back the way you came from, as the ends of the
- other two paths are one-way only. Get the items from the other two
- paths, and only after that should you approach the steps to trigger
- the rendezvous scene.
- - The W Magic Materia is in the last area of the left-up path (the area
- with the glowing light).
- - The Dragon Zombie will cast Pandora's Box as a final attack, but for
- some reason, only the first Dragon Zombie you kill will ever do so. It
- also takes quite a while for him to cast Shadow Flare.
- - Once prepared, go down the steps to begin the final battle. Ribbons
- are highly recommended.
