  1. Final Fantasy VII
  2.
  3. Platform: PS1
  4. Released (d.m.y):
  5. 31.01.1997 (J)
  6. 03.09.1997 (NA)
  7. 17.11.1997 (PAL)
  8.
  9. Based on: PAL-version (SCES-00867, SCES-10867, SCES-20867) (and PS4)
  10.
  11.
  12.
  13. - A single save file takes 1 block of space.
  14. - There's no way to return to the title screen from the 'Insert Disc x'
  15. screen.
  16. - The play time counter maxes out at 99:59:59.
  17. - All status ailments, except for Fury and Sadness, are removed at the
  18. end of battle.
  19. - Exp is *not* divided among active party members. Characters outside
  20. of the active party receive 50% Exp.
  21. - Due to a programming error, your Magic Defense is not affected by
  22. anything other than your Spirit stat. As a result, armor will *not*
  23. increase your Magic Defense.
  24. - Enemies will take double damage when attacked from behind, but your
  25. characters will only take double damage when attacked from behind in
  26. a pincer encounter.
  27. - If a character's current HP is ever 7777, the character will enter
  28. All 7 Fever in which they will attack the enemy 64 times for 7777 pod
  29. each (for a total of 497 728 pod). The fever can only occur once per
  30. battle for each character. After the fever is over, the character's
  31. damage and healing values will still be set to 7777 for as long their
  32. HP remains at 7777.
  33. - Don't forget that, while you can't use a PS2 memory card on PS1 games,
  34. you can still store PS1 save files on a PS2 memory card.
  35. - Changes in the PS4 version:
  36. × Magic Defense bug is fixed.
  37. × Can't change the button config.
  38. × Can adjust audio levels, allowing you to turn the music off.
  39. × You have the option to return to the title screen from the menu.
  40. The game will occasionally crash when using said option.
  41. × Faster cursor movement.
  42. × Similar to the original FFIV, rapid input after d-pad or L/R input
  43. will result in the d-pad or L/R input to be doubled. (A misguided
  44. homage, perhaps?)
  45. × All slots have a low frame rate, making it even harder to hit what
  46. you want.
  47. × The reticle in the Speed Square mini-game moves very fast, making
  48. it rather hard to hit targets.
  49. × When betting on the chocobo races, the race is sped up.

  91.
  92.
  93. Items (nc): Potion, Potion \\\ Sector 1 - Platform ||
  94. Default (Cloud): Buster Sword (Unique), Bronze Bangle (Artifact),
  95. Ice GM, Lightning GM
  96. - You start off at Level 6 with 3 Potions, 1 Ether, 1 Phoenix Down,
  97. 240 Gil, and the GM (Green Materia, ie. Magic Materia) Ice and Lightning
  98. (the Materia menu becomes available soon after the first dungeon).
  99. - Please take some time to customize the settings in the Config menu.
  100. Here's what I use:
  101. Cursor Memory
  102. ATB Mode Wait
  103. Battle Speed Max
  104. Battle Message Speed Above normal
  105. Field Message Speed Max
  106. Battle Camera Fixed
  107. Controller
  108. Confirm R1
  109. Cancel R2
  110. Menu L1
  111. EXT L2
  112. Left 1 Square
  113. Right 1 X
  114. Left 2 Triangle
  115. Right 2 O
  116.
  117. - Check the knocked out soldier(s) for two Potions.
  118. - Press Select on the field to see paths leading to other areas (not
  119. present in the original Japanese release).
  120. - Press Select during battle to see target names and command / item
  121. descriptions.
  122. - If you pause the game during battle, the play time counter will halt.
  123. There's no way to pause the game on the field.
  124. - Note that, if you check your status right away, the game tells you that
  125. Cloud has 610 Exp with 35 left for the next level. However, at the end
  126. of the fixed encounter, you only have 6 points remaining.
  127.
  128. \\\ Sector 1 - Station ||
  129. - Talk to the NPCs and you'll get the chance to name Cloud and Barret.
  130. Characters cannot be renamed (again).
  131.
  132. \\\ No.1 Reactor ||
  133. Items: Phoenix Down, Potion, Restore GM
  134. PC: Barret
  135. Default (Barret Lv6): Gatling Gun (Unique), Bronze Bangle (Artifact)
  136. Boss: Guard Scorpion
  137. - Barret joins the party.
  138. - You can change a character's row by choosing Order in the menu (hit
  139. Confirm twice). In battle, you can switch rows by using the Change
  140. command (press left in the menu).
  141. - As usual, characters and enemies in the back row will deal and receive
  142. less damage (in the case of non-ranged physical attacks). Since most of
  143. Barret's weapons are long-range, you can set him in the back row to
  144. reduce the damage he takes. Of course, if you leave him in the front,
  145. he can use Limit Breaks more often.
  146. - Like in FFVI, you can press the Menu button in battle to switch
  147. between characters who are ready to take action. Pressing EXT will
  148. make the command window disappear.
  149. - In menus, you can use Left 1 and Right 1 to switch between characters
  150. and scroll pages.
  151. - Note that, if you return to the earlier areas, you have to use Circle
  152. to examine the glowing panel that opens the elevator doors even if you
  153. changed the button settings.
  154. - You'll fight the boss soon after the save point.
  155.
  156. [Boss]
  157. - 800 HP, 100 Exp, 100 Gil, 10 AP, Assault Gun (Artifact)
  158. - Attacking him while his tail is up will prompt him to counter with
  159. Tail Laser (ab. 70 pod to all). You may want to eat a couple of those
  160. just to fill your Limit gauges.
  161.
  162. - Afterwards, you have 10 minutes to escape before the Makou reactor
  163. blows. Make sure you talk to Jessie in the area with the ladders.
  164.
  165. Item: Potion \\\ Sector 8 ||
  166. - You can fight the soldiers or run away from them. I suggest you fight
  167. them to earn some kills for the new Limit Break. Learning the first Lv2
  168. and Lv3 Limit Breaks requires a fair number of kills and learning the
  169. second LB of a level requires you to use the first one a bunch of times.
  170.
  171. \\\ Last Train from Midgar ||
  172. - Talk to Jessie then approach Barret.
  173.
  174. Items: All BM, Ether \\\ Sector 7 Slums ||
  175. Item (nc): 1500 Gil
  176. PC: Tifa
  177. Default (Tifa): Leather Glove (Unique), Bronze Bangle
  178. Shop:
  179. Potion 50 Gil Assault Gun 350 Gil
  180. Antidote 80 Gil Iron Bangle (Artifact) 160 Gil
  181. Phoenix Down 300 Gil
  182. Fire GM 600 Gil
  183. Ice GM 600 Gil
  184. Lightning GM 600 Gil
  185. Restore GM 750 Gil
  186.
  187. - There's nothing at the Train Graveyard, although you can fight some
  188. battles if you want.
  189. - Enter the bar and you can name Tifa. Try to leave then ride the pinball
  190. machine down. Approach Barret and try to leave again.
  191. - When you're talking with Barret the next day, you can go through the
  192. Materia tutorial if you want. You can unequip Materia and accessories
  193. with the Menu button and switch between the equipment menu and Materia
  194. menu with EXT.
  195. - Visit the Beginner's House to find the items. Pairing Restore with All
  196. would allow you to heal your party quite well (use Left 1 / Right 1 to
  197. switch between all targets and single target). Do note the Strength and HP
  198. penalties that come with Green and Red/Summon Materia. Your damage output
  199. will come mainly from physical attacks, so don't just automatically equip
  200. everything just because you have empty slots.
  201. - The level of the All materia determines how many times you can multi-cast
  202. during a given battle (5 at most). The limit applies to each spell
  203. individually.
  204. - You should level up a few All materias even if you don't need them.
  205. Once mastered, you can sell them for a *very* adequate amount of gil.
  206. × Trophy note: You need to accumulate 100 000 000 gil. One All gives
  207. you 1,4 (35 000 AP to master), so you need to sell 72 of them. You
  208. can eventually buy All materias in late Disc 2, but the ones you find
  209. should be enough (you can get 5 on Disc 1).
  210.
  211. Items (nc): Phoenix Down, Hi-Potion \\\ Inside Train ||
  212. - Approach Tifa and an alarm will go off. You're supposed to keep
  213. heading towards the front of the train, but it doesn't matter even if
  214. the timer runs out. You could try and get the two items, though. You
  215. can get the first one from the guy in the back of the first car and
  216. the second one from the guy closest to the camera in the second car.
  217. A guy in the third car will pick-pocket you, but you don't have to deal
  218. with that if you get caught in the second car.
  219.
  220. Party: Cloud, Barret, Tifa \\\ Winding Tunnel ||
  221. - The tunnel consists of 6 areas plus the south-most area where you can't
  222. pass (and where you can trigger fixed encounters) and the north-most
  223. area where you need to go down the hole.
  224. - The Rocket Launchers here always target the character with the lowest
  225. cHP. This is usually Tifa, but you can manipulate your HP figures and
  226. have them attack anyone you want.
  227.
  228. Items: Ether, Potion \\\ 4th Street Plate Int. ||
  229. Item: Tent \\\ Lower Sector 4 Plate ||
  230. Item: Ether \\\ No.5 Reactor ||
  231. Boss: Air Buster
  232.
  233. [Boss]
  234. - 1200 HP, 180 Exp, 150 Gil, 16 AP, Titan Bangle
  235.
  236. TPC: Aeris \\\ Church ||
  237. Default (Aeris): Guard Stick (Unique), Bronze Bangle
  238. - Chat with Aeris and she'll join. Move her to the front row and give
  239. her the Titan Bangle you just got.
  240. - Aeris will not be available after Disc 1.
  241. - In the next part, you can try and help Aeris by pushing down the
  242. barrels.
  243. B 1: A 2: B 3: D
  244. A D
  245. C
  246.
  247. Party: Cloud, Aeris \\\ Sector 5 Slums ||
  248. Items: Ether, Cover PM, Potion, Phoenix no O
  249. Special: Turtle's Paradise Flyer #1
  250. - In one of the houses, you'll find a sleeping kid. Check the drawer
  251. here to find 5 gil, but do *not* take it.
  252. - Check the notes on the wall in the same room to find the first
  253. Turtle's Paradise Flyer. If you find all six of these, you'll get
  254. a little reward later.
  255. - You'll find the items in and outside of Aeris's house.
  256. - Talk to Elmyra then head upstairs. Once you're in control, walk
  257. downstairs to sneak out without alerting Aeris. You'll nonetheless
  258. run into her again at the path leading to Sector 6.
  259.
  260. \\\ Wall Market ||
  261. Items (nc): Cotton Dress / Satin Dress / Silk Dress,
  262. Wig / Dyed Wig / Blonde Wig, Pharmacy Coupon,
  263. Disinfectant / Deodorant / Digestive,
  264. Cologne / Flower Cologne / Sexy Cologne,
  265. Glass Tiara / Ruby Tiara / Diamond Tiara, Member's Card,
  266. Lingerie / Bikini Briefs (all Key)
  267. Shop:
  268. Hi-Potion 300 Gil Metal Knuckle 320 Gil
  269. Eye Drop 50 Gil Assault Gun 350 Gil
  270. Echo Screen 100 Gil Mythril Rod 370 Gil
  271. Hyper 100 Gil Titan Bangle 280 Gil
  272. Tranquilizer 100 Gil Mythril Armlet 350 Gil
  273.
  274. - Metal Knuckle, 3 Mythril Armlets = 1370 gil
  275. - About Hyper and Tranquilizer:
  276. × Hyper can be used to cure Sadness and inflict Fury. A character under
  277. Fury will experience drastically increased Limit Gauge growth. However,
  278. as a trade-off, the character's accuracy is reduced.
  279. × Tranquilizer can be used to cure Fury and inflict Sadness. A character
  280. under Sadness will take less damage, but their Limit Gauge fills much
  281. slower (and not just because of the reduced damage).
  282. - Ask a guy at the Honeybee Inn about Tifa, then go talk to the guy in
  283. front of Corneo's mansion. Your next task is collecting some stuff in
  284. order to get into the mansion.
  285. × Dress: Talk to the woman at the boutique then talk to her father
  286. at the bar.
  287. × Wig: Gym.
  288. × Tiara: The guy at the Materia shop wants you to get an item from
  289. the vending machine in the inn (spend a night).
  290. × Cologne: Get something to eat at the diner and compliment the food
  291. to get a Pharmacy Coupon. Use the coupon at the pharmacy, then take
  292. the item to the person using the facilities in the bar.
  293. × You can also get a Member's Card from the guy near the path leading
  294. to Honeybee Inn.
  295. - Only the dress and wig are necessary. You can go ahead and hit the
  296. mansion once you have those. What items you get makes little difference
  297. (no extra reward or anything).
  298.
  299. Items: Ether, Phoenix Down, Hyper \\\ Don Corneo's ||
  300. - Find Tifa then meet the Don.
  301. - Beat up Corneo's lackeys then find the girls. Don't miss the Hyper
  302. behind Corneo's bed.
  303.
  304. Items: Potion, Steal YM \\\ Sewer ||
  305. Boss: Aps
  306. - You'll fight the boss almost right away.
  307.
  308. [Boss]
  309. - 1800 HP, 240 Exp, 253 Gil, 22 AP
  310.
  311. \\\ Train Graveyard ||
  312. Items: Hi-Potion, Potion, Potion, Potion, Hi-Potion
  313. Items (nc): Hi-Potion, Echo Screen, Ether
  314. Theft: Striking Staff (Eligor)
  315. - There are some items hidden in the barrels.
  316. - Hang around in the northern area until you manage to steal a Striking
  317. Staff.
  318. - Aeris will leave the party once you reach the support pillar. Have her
  319. heal you, and de-equip her Mythril Armlet, so you can give it to Barret.
  320.
  321. Boss: Reno \\\ Plate Support ||
  322. - You'll reunite with Barret and fight the boss at the top.
  323.
  324. [Boss]
  325. - 1000 HP, 290 Exp, 500 Gil, 22 AP
  326. - You'll need to attack your own characters in order to get rid of
  327. Pyramid. This will *not* damage the character.
  328.
  329. Item (nc): Turbo Ether \\\ Sector 5 Slums ||
  330. - Talk to the kid in the house where you found the first Turtle's
  331. Paradise Flyer. Assuming you refrained from looting his stash, he'll
  332. give you a Turbo Ether.
  333. - Head to Aeris's house for a scene.
  334.
  335. Item: Sense YM \\\ Sector 6 Park ||
  336.
  337. Item: 3× Batteries (Artifact, Temp) \\\ Wall Market ||
  338. Shop: Cover PM - 1000 Gil
  339. - Pick up the batteries for 300 gil from the guy in the weapon store.
  340. - The next dungeon is the longest so far. Make sure you're prepared.
  341. I recommend having 3 Restore Materias.
  342. - Go to the area east of Corneo's place and climb up the wires.
  343.
  344. Item (nc): Ether \\\ Plate Section ||
  345. - You'll need the batteries here. Soon you'll reach Shinra Headquarters.
  346.
  347. Item: Elixir \\\ Shinra HQ - Stairs ||
  348. - If you want everything right away, you need to take the side entrance
  349. and get the Elixir halfway through the stairs, then go all the way back
  350. down and take the main entrance. I suggest you leave the Elixir and get
  351. it on Disc 2 when there's another item in there as well.
  352.
  353. Special: Turtle's Paradise Flyer #2 \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 1F ||
  354. - Check the notice board for the second Turtle's Paradise newsletter.
  355. Do *not* miss it!
  356. - You can buy some items on the second floor. When you're ready, take
  357. the elevator.
  358.
  359. Item (nc): Keycard 60 (Key) \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 59F ||
  360. - After some elevator action, you'll end up on 59F. Drop the guards and
  361. you'll obtain your first keycard.
  362.
  363. \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 60F ||
  364. - You have to sneak past the guards here. You can fight them, but you
  365. can't fight your way through.
  366.
  367. Item (nc): Keycard 62 (Key) \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 61F ||
  368. - Talk to one of the NPCs here and reply '....' to get the second keycard.
  369.
  370. Items (nc): Keycard 65, Elemental BM \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 62F ||
  371. - Talk to the mayor once, then take the elevator all the way down and
  372. save your game. You need to guess the password right on your first try
  373. in order to get the Elemental Materia.
  374.
  375. Items: Coupon A, Coupon B, Coupon C \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 63F ||
  376. Items (nc): Star Pendant, Four Slots (Artifact), All BM
  377. - Save your game on 64F before attempting this. You need to get the 3
  378. coupons, but you can only open 3 doors. Get to the west-most room by
  379. opening 2 doors, then use the air duct to get the remaining two.
  380.
  381. Items (nc): Phoenix Down, Ether \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 64F ||
  382. - You can rest in the room with the save point.
  383. - Mess with the vending machines.
  384.
  385. \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 67F ||
  386. Theft: Hardedge (SOLDIER 3rd), Carbon Bangle (Moth Slasher)
  387. - You don't have much room to move in, but it'll do. Steal a Hardedge
  388. and at least 3 Carbon Bangles. Do it *before* fighting the next boss.
  389.
  390. \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 65F ||
  391. Items: Midgar Parts, Midgar Parts, Midgar Parts, Midgar Parts,
  392. Midgar Parts, Keycard 66
  393. - You need to fetch and place the Midgar Parts into the model city one
  394. by one.
  395.
  396. \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 66F ||
  397. - Climb into the ventilation shaft in the bathroom, so you can eavesdrop
  398. on the meeting.
  399.
  400. Item: Poison GM \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 67F ||
  401. - If you don't have the Hardedge and Carbon Bangles yet, get them *now*.
  402.
  403. \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 68F ||
  404. Items: Enemy Skill YM (Artifact), Potion, Potion, Potion, Potion
  405. Item (nc): Keycard 68
  406. PC: Nanaki
  407. Default (Nanaki): Mythril Clip (Artifact), Mythril Armlet, Fire GM,
  408. All BM, Sense YM
  409. Boss: Sample H0512
  410. - Nanaki (aka Red XIII) will join you right before the boss.
  411.
  412. [Boss]
  413. - 1000 HP, 360 Exp, 250 Gil, 36 AP, Talisman
  414. - Equip the Star Pendant for this one.
  415. - He can revive his goons a couple of times before running out of MP.
  416.
  417. - Once you have more than one Enemy Skill materia, you should equip
  418. all of them on the same character when learning single-target skills.
  419. Note, however, that, when you do this, you can only learn skills that
  420. haven't been learned by any of the materias.
  421. - Afterwards, head to an elevator, and some scenes will take place.
  422. Head to the top floor. Cloud will be taking on a boss solo while Barret,
  423. Nanaki and Aeris take care of another one. There's one more boss after
  424. that. You can choose your party for that one.
  425.
  426. \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 69F ||
  427. Boss(es): Hundred Gunner & Heli Gunner (separate phases)
  428. - Aeris, Barret and Nanaki are up first. Take the elevator to start the
  429. battle.
  430.
  431. [Boss]
  432. - 1600 HP / 1000 HP, 250 Exp, 200 Gil, 25 AP
  433. - You can't hit the boss without ranged attacks. Thunder is a good choice.
  434.
  435. \\\ Shinra Bldg. - 70F ||
  436. Lost & Found: Protect Vest (Rufus), Guard Source (Dark Nation)
  437. Boss: Rufus (& Dark Nation)
  438.
  439. [Boss]
  440. - 500 HP. 310 Exp, 650 Gil, 42 AP in total
  441. - Dark Nation is in the back row, but doesn't have much HP (140).
  442.
  443. \\\ Midgar Highway ||
  444. Boss: Motor Ball

  492. You need to have this equipped in order to be able to encounter chocobos.
  493. You should buy some greens as well. You need to kill all the enemies in

  495. but it may still be difficult.

  502. - A Chocobo will use Chocobuckle if you hit it with L4 Suicide after
  503. giving it Mimett Greens. L4 Suicide actually has to hit it. Around here,
  504. it only works on the one that comes with two Elfadunks. It's much easier

  511. - Long Range is recommended for melee characters, so they can hit flying
  512. enemies. There aren't many of them at all, but still. You could also
  513. place the characters in the back row, but, as already mentioned, keeping
  514. them in the front would allow you to get Limit Breaks faster. I rarely
  515. set my characters in the back row myself.
  516.
  517. \\\ Fort Condor ||
  518. - South of the mine is Fort Condor. You can play a mini-game here,
  519. but it takes a good amount of money. If you don't have that much and
  520. don't feel like grinding (not that it takes that long to get enough
  521. to cover the first two battles), you can just ignore it.
  522. - The first battle will cost you about 5000 gil and you'll receive
  523. a Magic Comb as a reward. If you use Nanaki, it's well worth it.
  524. - New battles become available after reaching certain points in the
  525. story. You can only fight the most recent one, so it's easy to miss
  526. battles. However, most of the rewards are not even remotely worth the
  527. money and time spent backtracking.
  528. - The second battle will be available very soon. If you hate confusion,
  529. it's well worth the roughly 15k it takes to beat it, as the reward is
  530. an accessory that makes you immune to confusion (the in-game description
  531. doesn't actually tell you that on the PS4, though).
  532. - With a highly aggressive strategy, it's possible to end the battles
  533. by killing only two enemies, which saves a lot of time and money. The
  534. battle ends once no enemies remain on the field. If you form a "ladder"
  535. to the bottom of the hill by placing Fighters, you can take out the
  536. first two enemies before any more appear.

  1057. ATP maxes out at 255 and there's no need to boost your Str once you
  1058. reach that.
  1059. - Boosting Vit isn't a high priority. If you're going for it anyway,
  1060. use Elemental-Ice. I went with a modest +20 for all. Spirals are a
  1061. better source later in the game.

  1073. - I recommend you pick up Enemy Lure at the Battle Square at this point.
  1074. It'll come in handy when grinding. Equip three of them to max out the
  1075. effect (50 000 AP to master).
  1076. - Before you go in, talk to one of the NPCs outside the arena and choose
  1077. the first dialog option. Talk to her again later after beating the arena
  1078. to receive a pair of Sprint Shoes.
  1079. - In case you're not that familiar with how things work here, the Battle
  1080. Arena challenge has you fight up to 8 battles with a single character
  1081. (10 GP per attempt). After each round, a slot reel is used to force a
  1082. penalty on you. You need to make it to round 8 in order to score big,
  1083. as BP is received from the penalties and the 7th reel gives you the most
  1084. points by far (except for No Penalty and HP Restore, since, you know,
  1085. they're not penalties at all). Break All Materia on the 7th gives you
  1086. 10 000 BP. Break GM is almost as much. Break Weapon, Seal Items and
  1087. Break PM are also worth a good amount, although Break Weapon is only
  1088. manageable if Enemy Skill is still intact or if you've boosted you Str.
  1089. You lose all your BP when you leave the area.
  1090. - Equip the Nail Bat, Gigas Armlet, Ribbon, Enemy Skill, HP Plus and
  1091. Counter Attack(s).
  1092. - Mini drops your damage to 1, but you can still use your abilities.

  1095. - Trophy note: Unless you want the trophy. This one can be a little
  1096. tricky, but it's still best that you get it now. If you wait until
  1097. Disc 2/3, you'll be stronger and the prices will go down, but the
  1098. enemies will be tougher as well. Get at least 200 GP before you try

  1386. - You can now buy 100 GP for 10 000 gil from the 'GP man.' He'll appear
  1387. occasionally behind the save point at the station. You can make a lot
  1388. of GP in the chocobo races as well, though.
  1389. - Exp Plus (Double Exp at Lv2) will come in handy, as the Exp doesn't
  1390. really get any better than what it is in the Mideel region.
  1391. - You can also take part in chocobo racing. Racing (and winning) with
  1392. your chocobos increases your chances of getting special chocobos when
  1393. breeding but is by no means necessary. When racing, you'll want to hold
  1394. R1+R2 to regenerate your stamina. Assuming the chocobo's stats are good
  1395. enough, all you really need to do aside from that is increase your speed
  1396. to max right away (with Square).
  1397. - After winning a few times, the chocobo will go up in rank. You can't
  1398. drop in rank and you can only race in the rank the chocobo is at. As a
  1399. result, most chocobos will simply no longer be able to win once they
  1400. reach a high enough rank, as their stats just aren't up to the task
  1401. anymore.
  1402. - Stuff you can win in the races: Counter Attack PM (AS),
  1403. Enemy Away PM (AS), Sneak Attack BM (AS), Cat's Bell (AS), Sprint Shoes (AS),
  1404. Precious Watch (S), Chocobracelet (S), Magic Counter BM (S).
  1405. × Enemy Away appears as a common prize, so you can easily pick that up.
  1406. - When betting, the odds of getting the best item are a measly 4%. When
  1407. racing, it's 20% assuming you manage to win.
  1408. - If you manage to win several S rank races consecutively, Ester will
  1409. give you a bunch of stuff.
  1410.
  1411. \\\ Chocobos ||
  1412. - You may want to do some chocobo breeding at this point (if you already
  1413. haven't). At the very least, I suggest getting a Green Chocobo so you
  1414. can explore the Ancient Forest on Disc 2. Then there's Lucrecia's cave,
  1415. but you can get there with the sub too. Eventually, you'll be able to
  1416. reach the Ancient Forest without a chocobo as well, but you shouldn't
  1417. wait. It's an optional dungeon, but there are some pretty nice items there.
  1418. - You can start by catching two Great Chocobos in the Mideel region (you
  1419. did already rent some stables, right?). These are encountered along with
  1420. Spirals (the others won't do).
  1421. - The chocobo's sex is determined when you move them in. Move the first
  1422. one, then go out and save so that the other one will have the opposite
  1423. gender. If you keep getting the same, you should go in and out of the
  1424. barn a few times to mix the RNG.
  1425. - Once you have the right chocobos, you need to increase their stats by
  1426. feeding them Sylkis Greens. I gave them 40 each in two batches (ie. 20+20).
  1427. - After that, you just mate them with a Carob Nut (save first, of course).
  1428. You can get both a Green and a Blue chocobo this way. Fairly easy even
  1429. without racing. If you want a Black one, you'll need a Blue and Green
  1430. of opposite gender (plus a Carob Nut). You'll likely need to race them,
  1431. as your odds aren't that good without doing so. Then there's the Gold
  1432. one, but I usually don't bother with it myself.
  1433. - To get a Gold Chocobo, breed the Black Chocobo with a Wonderful
  1434. Chocobo. You can catch one in the north continent. You'll know it's
  1435. a Wonderful Chocobo when there are one or two Jumpings with it (but
  1436. no other enemies). Boost both of their stats substantially and race
  1437. them at least a few times. The nut you need to use is a Zeio Nut.
  1438. - When a chocobo is unable to mate (after mating or being born), you
  1439. need to fight a bunch of battles before you can mate them.
  1440. - The stuff you can get with the colored chocobos are:
  1441. Blue: Quadra Magic BM (northeast Mideel)
  1442. Green: Mime YM (south of Wutai), Lucrecia's cave (east of Nibelheim),
  1443. Ancient Forest (south of Cosmo Canyon)

  1673. Items (nc): May vary
  1674. Theft: Dragon Armlet (Dark Dragon), Elixir (Master Tonberry, Gighee)
  1675. Morph: Ribbon (Master Tonberry), Protect Ring (Mover)
  1676. E-Skill: Laser, Dragon Force (Dark Dragon - Manipulate),
  1677. L5 Death, Magic Breath (Parasite - Manipulate), Roulette (Death Dealer),
  1678. Angel Whisper (Pollensalta - Manipulate), Bad Breath (Malboro),
  1679. Shadow Flare, Pandora's Box (Dragon Zombie)
  1680. Bosses: Jenova Synthesis, Bizarro Sephiroth, Safer Sephiroth
  1681.
  1682. - Gargoyles may use L4 Death (not an E-Skill) as a final attack.
  1683. - In the fourth area, you'll see your characters standing around. The
  1684. path splits, and you need to choose where to send each character (the
  1685. path splits again when going down the left path). Each character you
  1686. send down a path you do *not* take will pick up an item on their way
  1687. and give it to you at the bottom. *However*, these items will not
  1688. actually be gone until you trigger the rendezvous scene. What this means
  1689. is that, if you check the other paths after reaching the bottom, you
  1690. can actually obtain duplicates of these items. Most of the stuff is of
  1691. little importance, but there are two items you really want to get. These
  1692. are the Mystile and the Imperial Guard. You'll get these by sending Tifa
  1693. to the right and Cid to left-up. Here's what I chose:
  1694.
  1695. Right: Tifa, Nanaki, Cait, Vincent
  1696. Left-up: Cid
  1697. Left-down: Cloud, Barret, Yuffie
  1698.
  1699. - If you make a mistake, you have to reset the game, as the game doesn't
  1700. give you a chance to change your choices.
  1701. - The characters outside of your party after splitting up will not gain
  1702. Exp until you rendezvous.
  1703. - The Magic Counter Materia is in the second area of the left-down path.
  1704. You really can't see it at all.
  1705. - Mega All PM affects Materia that All BM would not (such as Morph). It
  1706. also changes Attack to Slash-All (160 000 AP to master).
  1707. - You'll know you're at the bottom when the music stops. Do *not* get
  1708. too close to the steps on the left. Feel free to use the Save Crystal,
  1709. but I recommend using a different slot (you can't use PHS at this save
  1710. point). You need to go back the way you came from, as the ends of the
  1711. other two paths are one-way only. Get the items from the other two
  1712. paths, and only after that should you approach the steps to trigger
  1713. the rendezvous scene.
  1714. - The W Magic Materia is in the last area of the left-up path (the area
  1715. with the glowing light).
  1716. - The Dragon Zombie will cast Pandora's Box as a final attack, but for
  1717. some reason, only the first Dragon Zombie you kill will ever do so. It
  1718. also takes quite a while for him to cast Shadow Flare.
  1719. - Once prepared, go down the steps to begin the final battle. Ribbons
  1720. are highly recommended.
