  1. [18:27] Ardith says, "But I've been meaning to talk to you, Ark."
  2. [18:28] Ardith leans forward, hopping up to her feet and approaching the demon.
  3. (Ardith)
  4. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  5.
  6. [18:28] Arkgvunde Vel'heim asks, "Yes?"
  7. [18:28] Ardith says, "You're relevant to my research now. So I wanted to ask you some questions."
  8. [18:28] Arkgvunde Vel'heim says, "By all means, ask away."
  9. [18:35] The occultist takes out her little notebook, leafs it open, and retrieves a stick of charcoal for scribbling.
  10.
  11. "So. We'd talked and you mentioned that you have a demonic telepathy, like the others, but you don't use it. Right?"
  12.
  13. Got to start somewhere.
  14. (Ardith)
  15. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  16.
  17. [18:37] Arkgvunde noticed how Ardith was already prepared for whatever it was they were doing, bringing out a notebook and writing in it and everything.
  18.
  19. The Demon obliged with an unconcentrated psychic wave in the immediate area that simply said,
  20.
  21. Yes.
  22. (Arkgvunde Vel'heim)
  23. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  24.
  25. [18:38] Sima Kang whispers something.
  26. [18:41] Well, there's the proof. She glances up as the psychic wave wriggles into her thoughts. It feels drastically different from the Archon's, that's for sure. Then again, she's grown accustomed to the sensation. Where once it was painful now it's almost pleasant.
  27.
  28. "Good, thanks. And how would you say you...well...Do that? Is there a way to describe it?"
  29. (Ardith)
  30. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  31.
  32. [18:42] Tahldrig whispers something.
  33. [18:43] Tahldrig whispers something.
  34. [18:44] Sima Kang whispers something.
  35. [18:44] Tahldrig whispers something.
  36. [18:44] Sima Kang whispers something.
  37. [18:44] Sima Kang whispers something.
  38. [18:44] Tahldrig whispers something.
  39. [18:44] Arkgvunde was given pause at this question.
  40.
  41. They'd never really bothered to meditate on the topic, it wasn't as immediately pressing as learning combat or the various civil duties of the world to make more money...
  42.
  43. Nonetheless, Ark did their best to convey the general idea by saying,
  44.
  45. "It feels like it comes from the Occult Core that all us traditional Demons have. It's unknown to me whether or not Daemon-mixes can do it, and if so, how."
  46. (Arkgvunde Vel'heim)
  47. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  48.
  49. [18:46] Ardith honestly didn't expect anything relatively concrete to go on, but Arkgvunde gives her something to work with, a morsel to chew and gnaw. Metaphorically speaking. She starts writing down notes in her booklet, furiously, even excitedly.
  50.
  51. "Are all of the stages of your evolution able to do it? From the smallest to the greatest?"
  52.
  53. She's got a lead, finally a lead on something substantial. She can feel it.
  54. (Ardith)
  55. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  56.
  57. [18:49] Arkgvunde reeled back a bit at hearing that. It might've been annoyed.
  58.
  59. Didn't they answer this before?
  60.
  61. "No. Most of the Demons before Elemental - Or sometimes Giga evolution - Are not capable."
  62. (Arkgvunde Vel'heim)
  63. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  64.
  65. [18:52] Maybe she's asked it before. Maybe she hasn't. What matters now though is that she can write it down for sure. And do tests. So many tests to run.
  66.
  67. "So it's something that's grown into over time. Got it, got it," she mutters, more scribbling and scrawling. Why go to a book, as few as they were, when she could just get it straight from the demon's mouth? Or mind, as the case may be.
  68.
  69. "But are the lesser and smaller ones still capable of understanding it when it's used on them? Not sure how uh...developed they are upstairs."
  70. (Ardith)
  71. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  72.
  73. [18:55] Arkgvunde slowly simmered back down to a more equal level of behavior with Ardith. They righted themselves and leveled off at an end again so they didn't look silly while they floated a meter or so off the ground.
  74.
  75. The Demon's reply came relatively quickly compared to the first couple questions,
  76.
  77. "Ohh, they understand it, definitely... But often they only single out specific words."
  78.
  79. "Like kill, or eat, or defend."
  80.
  81. "Especially when they're enthralled by a Kaor."
  82. (Arkgvunde Vel'heim)
  83. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  84.
  85. [18:56] More scribbles, a bit of furious jotting, a few key words underlined.
  86.
  87. "So basic commands, sort of? Or...like they've got selective hearing and just kind of do what they want?"
  88.
  89. From the sound of it, the latter is more likely.
  90.
  91. "And greater demons can enthrall smaller ones?"
  92. (Ardith)
  93. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  94.
  95. [18:59] Arkgvunde shrugged.
  96.
  97. ...
  98.
  99. They have no arms.
  100.
  101. Physicalities notwithstanding, the corrupted Nature Demon went on to say,
  102.
  103. "Yes, a Kaor can actually get the weakest Demons in a surrounding environment to come to their aid. This is usually done by dragging them through the Spirit World, physically picking them up from wherever they are right before a battle, or just plain baiting them with promises of more Mana and trapping them into servitude."
  104. (Arkgvunde Vel'heim)
  105. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  106.
  107. [19:01] The Kaor is giving her a lot to work with. Already ideas start cropping up in her head, ideas which are jotted down in the margins of her little booklet. The bulk of the space on the pages is taken up by notations of whatever words of substance Ark has offered.
  108.
  109. Admittedly, her handwriting is a little messy, and now her gloves are stained with charcoal dust. Oh well. This is the price of progress.
  110.
  111. "Great, great...I think that'll give me the best start I could hope for. Thanks, Ark. Owe ya one."
  112. (Ardith)
