Merrow: Hello, welcome to Tales from Between the Sheets! How can I help you today? *The selkie hands the merrow a piece of paper* Hmm you seem to be well informed; we just got this particular item today. J: Looks like your fangirl is showing. So you bought the magazine because? *Lumi pulls the magazine out of the bag to show Jack*

Sleepover
Jack is in his room, trying to sleep. Suddenly, his door opens and Hoshiko appears in the door frame.
Hoshiko: Onii-chan? Are you awake, Onii-chan?
Jack: *sigh* Yes… What’s up?
H: H-hoshiko had a bad dream and she’s too scared to go back to sleep. C-can Hoshiko sleep with you tonight Onii-chan? Pretty please?
J: … Are you wearing your pjs?
H: Yes~! *Jack looks at Hoshiko for a moment before pulling back his blankets*
J: Alright, get in.
H: Yay! *Hoshiko runs and jumps into Jack’s bed. As the blanket covers her, she snuggles up to her big brother* Thank you Onii-chan!
J: Alright, just go to sleep… *Both Jack and Hoshiko close their eyes to go to sleep. Eventually, they are woken up by the sound of sobbing. Looking towards the door, they see a visibly distressed young kikimora in a night gown by the door*
Jagoda: J-j-jack? A-a-are you awake? *sniff* I-I-I n-need your h-help! *sniffle* H-hoshiko’s mi-missing! We were t-together when we went to b-bed, *sniff* but I went to the b-bathroom and wh-when I came b-back she wasn’t th-there anymore! I-I think she might be in tr-trouble!
J: Don’t worry about it Jagoda. Hoshiko’s in here with me. She had a bad dream.
H: Sorry Jagoda-chan…
Ja: N-no, it’s m-my fault for assuming the worst…
J: …
H: … Do you want to share Onii-chan’s bed with me?
Ja: Is it ok? I w-wouldn’t want to impose.
J: Are you wearing your pjs?
Ja: Huh? Well… I am wearing my night gown, but what does that have to do with anything?
J: Don’t worry about it. Hop in. *Instead of waiting for Jack to open the covers for her, Jagoda rushes to the foot of his bed and slips under the covers. She crawls under the covers until her head pops out next to Jack*
Ja: I-I’m sorry about all this. I just get so scared being alone at night…
J: Seriously, don’t worry about it. Just go to sleep.
Ja: Ok…
J: …
H: … Hehehe Onii-chan’s pretty lucky, isn’t he Jagoda-chan?
Ja: What makes you say that?
H: Hoshiko heard from Nevada Onee-chan that boys wish they could share a bed with two girls!
Ja: R-really?
H: Really really!
Ja: Interesting… Then I am glad to be of service.
J: Be quiet and go to sleep…

Jack wakes up in his room alone. After getting dressed, he heads to the kitchen to get something to eat. When he gets there, he sees Nevada and Eira looking at something and giggling.
Eira: Oh they look so cute in this one!
Nevada: You haven’t seen anything yet! There’s one where it looks like they’re going to kiss!
E: K-kiss?! Show me!
J: Show you what?
E: J-Jack!
N: My my, what a pleasant surprise. We were just looking at some pictures I took.
J: Cool, can I see them?
N: I don’t know. Can you? *Nevada holds out the digital camera she and Eira were looking at* Are you sure you want to see these pictures? They could change everything.
J: Just let me look at the stupid pictures.
N: Suit yourself. *Nevada hands the camera over to Jack, who begins to scroll through the images. A look of horror appears on his face as he realizes that there were countless pictures of him sleep snuggling with Hoshiko and Jagoda* So what do you think? I think I have a certain talent in capturing the emotion of the scene.
J: I am deleting these. All of them.
E: Don’t do that Jack! They’re cute~!
N: Don’t worry about it Eira. I already got Lumi to put them all on Facebook.
E: Oh wow. That’s really handy. Huh? Are you alright Jack?
J: … *Jack then fell to his knees and cried out in embarrassment. His wail was so loud that Hoshiko and Jagoda could hear it outside as they were finishing their snowman*

Jack is playing in the park with Hoshiko and Nevada.
Jack: Tag! You’re it!
Hoshiko: Ah! No fair onii-chan! *Hoshiko starts chasing after Jack* Get back here!
J: Catch me if you can~!
Nevada: Don’t worry Hoshiko! I’m sure we’ll be able to get him if we work together!
J: Hey! Teaming up’s no fair!
H: All’s fair in love and tag onii-chan! *The three of them keep chasing each other around the playground, until Jack accidentally crashes into an ogre his age*
Ogre: Hey watch it!
J: Sorry! *Jack gets a good look at the ogre* Gemma!
Gemma: Well if it isn’t Jack! What’s a dweeb like doing on my turf?
N: Your turf? What do you mean your turf?
G: I mean that this whole playground belongs to me!
J: Aren’t you a little old to be claiming to own the playground?
G: I don’t have to take this from some jackass whose parents didn’t even want him!
H: *gasp!*
N: What did you just say?!
J: …
G: Don’t act like it’s supposed to be some big secret! Everyone at school knows that his parents didn’t want him, and left him at an orphanage somewhere.
N: NOBODY LEFT JA-
J: Drop it Nevada.
N: What?!
J: Just drop it. If she wants this playground for herself, then we should just go.
H: B-but onii-chan!
J: Let’s just go. *Jack starts to leave, and Nevada and Hoshiko follow after him*
G: Yeah! You better run!
H: Onii-chan? Are you ok?
J: Don’t worry about it Hoshiko.
N: … *the trio keep walking until they find Yukiko reading a book while sitting on a bench*
Yukiko: Hm? Done already?
J: Yeah mom, we’re not real-
N: One of the kids at the playground was making fun of Jack for being adopted!
J: Nevada!
Y: Is this true?
H: Yup! She was being really mean!
Y: Would you be able to bring me to her?
N+H: Yes!
Y: Then let’s get going!
J: What? No mom! You don’t need to do this!
Y: Jack, when you’re grown up and have kids of your own, you’ll realize that I really, really need to do this! *Yukiko marches after Nevada and Hoshiko, while Jack trudges behind her. They find Gemma approaching a group of mamono bikers. The ogre leader gets off of her bike and gives Gemma a hug*
N: That’s her mom!
Y: Excuse me ma’am, can I have a word with you?
Ogre Biker: What’cha want?
Y: Are you this young ogre’s mother?
OB: And what if I am?
Y: Well your daughter was extremely rude to my son.
OB: Is that so? And what did she do that was so “rude”?
Y: She mocked him about being adopted.
OB: Is he adopted?
Y: He is, but that’s beside the point.
OB: Now hold up there, if he’s adopted why’s he getting upset?
H: She told onii-chan that his parents didn’t love him!
Y: … And I think that warrants an apology.
OB: And I think it doesn’t. Look, I don’t get how you pansy mamono do things, but I’ve always believed that might makes right. If your boy had any stones, he would have made my Gemma pay for what she said. But he didn’t. And here you are, fighting on his behalf. What a joke! *the ogre starts to laugh, and her gang joins in. Yukiko glares at them in silence*
Y: So, I take it by your little… speech that you won’t do anything unless I force you to?
OB: That sounds about right, although I highly doubt that a little snowflake like you can make me do anything.
Y: We’ll see.
J: Mom don’t!
Y: Not now Jack. So how do you want to do this?
OB: No holds barred. With weapons.
Y: I happen to have forgotten my weapons at home. *the ogre walks to her bike to grab a crowbar. An orc passes her a lead pipe, which she tosses towards Yukiko. Yukiko snatches it out of the air, and gives the pipe a few test swings*
OB: How do you like it?
Y: It’s not terribly balanced.
OB Ha! It figures that a pansy like you wo- *the ogre barely manages to block Yukiko’s sudden lunge* Woah there! You’re being a little more bloodthirsty than I was expecting!
Y: I’m sorry. I guess I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to beat you unless I went all out. I hope I’m not overestimating your abilities.
OB: Oh you’ll pay for that one! *the ogre grabs at Yukiko, who manages to jump out the way. The two mamono mothers continue to fight, with each managing to get several good hits on the other. After a half hour of fighting, they both stop to catch their breath*
Y: *huff puff* You’re a lot better than I thought you’d be.
OB: *huff puff* You’re not too bad yourself.
Y: Thank you. What’s your name?
OB: Carla. What’s yours?
Y: Yukiko.
Carla: Yukiko? You’re not THE Yukiko? As in the Queen of North Mountain?
Y: Yes. *Carla starts to laugh*
C: No wonder you’re so tough! What are the chances that I’d get to meet you here?
Y: I guess they were pretty good.
C: Ha! I guess they were! So Gemma, go apologize to..?
Y: Jack.
C: Yeah, go apologize to Jack.
G: Why?
C: Because his mom’s one the best bikers around. She’s practically a living legend, so her and her family deserve our respect!
G: O-ok… *Gemma walks up to Jack* Uh… I’m sorry for what I’ve said…
J: I-it’s ok…
N: I’ll be keeping an eye on you.
H: Hoshiko will make sure you stay a good girl too!
G: O-ok!
C: Well it looks like the kids are getting along now.
Y: So it seems.
C: S-so… you wouldn’t mind hanging around and having a chat, would you?
Y: As long as my kids don’t mind sticking around. What about it?
H: Hoshiko wants to play!
N: I wouldn’t mind staying.
J: I guess I can stay if the others want to…
H: YAY! *Hoshiko grabs Gemma and Jack’s hand and pulls them to the jungle gym*
N: H-hey! Wait for me! *Yukiko talked to the fangirling bikers while their kids played. After a while, they said their goodbyes, and went home. Later that night, Yukiko enters Jack’s room*
Y: Are you awake Jack?
J: Yeah.
Y: How are you doing?
J: I’m doing fine.
Y: You sure?
J: … *Yukiko sits next to Jack on his bed*
Y: Just so you know Jack, your parents really did love you. And I know for a fact that they’re proud of you, even when they aren’t here with us. *Jack begins to cry and hugs Yukiko. She hugs him back* There, there Jack. I’m here. Mom’s here.

Thawed Heart
A while ago, an Ice Queen is having an argument with her husband.
Ice Queen: I just don’t get why you can’t just stay here with me!
Husband: I would love to, but I need to go help the people who helped me get here.
IQ: No you don’t! The only thing you need to do is stay with me!
H: I’m sorry, but I promised everyone that I’d come help them after they helped me meet you. It’s already been four months since then. It’s about time I did something.
IQ: I don’t care about your promises! I just want you to stay with me!
H: I know you do, but I need to do this. Stop being selfish!
IQ: I’m being selfish?! I just want to spend time with you!
H: We’ve spent four months together! I just want to go out for a day to help some of my friends!
IQ: I don’t care about your “friends”!
H: You obviously don’t care about anyone but yourself!
IQ: H-how dare you?! I care about you!
H: Are you sure about that? If you really cared about me, then you’d let me do this!
IQ: Fine! Then go! But don’t expect a warm welcome when you come back! If you come back!
H: You! … Fine, I’ll go. But mark my words, you’re going to be alone for a long time if you don’t start caring about other people! *her husband storms off, and the ice queen sits down with a huff*
IQ: Stupid! Moron! Ignoramus! And he called me selfish! Selfish! Even though he’s the one who’s acting selfish! Humph! I’ve got to do something to get my mind off that bastard… *the ice queen creates a mirror out of ice, and an image of her husband appears on it* No! I don’t want to even think of him! *the image changes to the yeti village* Ah! That’s the village where I first saw him in my mirror… *the image changes to a mountain pass* And that’s where he saw my castle for the first time… He was so amazed I thought it was cute… Damn it! Everything in my kingdom reminds me of that bastard! Now what can I do? Wait… It’s winter outside of my realm, so perhaps I can extend my sight past my borders… *the ice queen aims her palm at the ice mirror, and the image changes to a frozen forest that she had never seen before* Success! Now let’s see what’s out there. *the image begins to change multiple times in rapid succession* I wonder what I’ll find? Hm? What was that? Go back. *the image changes back to a small wooded area at the base of a mountain. A young boy sat on a fallen log, and seemed to be crying* Bah! I thought it was something interesting. *She watches the young boy* Why am I still watching this? This is none of my business. *she continues to watch the young boy* Why do I care about this so much? It’s just some kid! Sitting alone… And crying… All alone… Damn it… *the ice queen stands up, and approaches the mirror. She touches the mirror, and begins to pass through it until she finds herself standing behind the boy. The boy shivers as the temperature drops* Hello child. Why are you crying?
Boy: AAh!
IQ: Don’t be afraid child, I will not hurt you. So why were you crying?
B: I-I wasn’t crying!
IQ: Oh? It sure looked like you were crying to me. *the ice queen sits next to the boy on the log* If you weren’t crying, then what are you doing out here all alone child?
B: It’s none of your business. And stop calling me “child”. My name’s Jack!
IQ: It’s nice to meet you Jack, but I came all the way here to see you. I’m making it my business, so why were you crying?
Jack: I-I wasn’t…
IQ: Don’t lie to me Jack~.
J: O-ok, so what if I was?
IQ: I was wondering why you’d be crying out here by herself.
J: I… I… I miss… I miss my parents…
IQ: Oh? What happened to them?
J: T-there was an accident… And they… They… *Jack begins to tear up again*
IQ: I-I see… *the ice queen pats Jack on the back* It’s ok. I know it hurts. Just let it all out. *Jack begins to cry again, and hugs the ice queen. She does her best to comfort him. Eventually he stops quiets down* Better?
J: A little bit… Will… Will it ever stop hurting?
IQ: Maybe. It won’t happen right away Jack, but you’ll start feeling better little by little. Even in my frozen realm, spring still comes eventually. And I’m certain it will come for you as well.
J: Really?
IQ: Of course! You just have to take it day by day until the thaw finally comes.
J: Ok…
IQ: … Would you like to come home with me?
J: What?
IQ: Would you like to come home with me? I know my kingdom can be a little harsh, but I’ll be there to help you. And my husband is a very kind man. It may be hard for a bit, but I’m sure you’ll have fun living there.
J: I don’t know…
IQ: What could possibly be the matter?
J: It’s just… Mr. and Mrs. Frost said that they’d take care of me from now on.
IQ: And who’re Mr. and Mrs. Frost.
J: They are… Were friends of my mom and dad, and they’ve been trying to help me. And then Eira and Lumi will be sad if I just went.
IQ: And who are Eira and Lumi.
J: They’re a yeti and selkie that Mr. and Mrs. Frost adopted. They’re nice, but I don’t think I’ll be able to call them my sisters like they want. It just feels too weird.
IQ: And you don’t want to come with me because you’re worried that’ll hurt them.
J: Yeah.
IQ: … Well I can’t deny that I’m a little disappointed that you don’t want to come with me, but I can see that you’re a kind young man Jack. So if anything happens, and you change your mind, just call out for me, and I’ll be there to help you. *it begins to snow*
J: But what’s your name?
IQ: My name? I guess I forgot to tell you. My name’s Nevada. Now goodbye Jack. *the wind picks up, and Nevada the ice queen disappears in the small snow storm. When the snow and wind tapers off, Jack notices a glacie that looked his age sitting where Nevada was*
J: … Hello?
Glacie: … *the glacie suddenly hugs Jack*
J: COLD! *Meanwhile Yukiko the yuki-onna and her husband John are watching young Eira and Lumi making a snowman*
John: Man that was a random storm.
Yukiko: Yeah. It just came out of nowhere… Hey, where’s Jack?
Jo: Jack? I saw him head into those trees over there.
Y: I better go get him.
Jo: Why?
Y: What if something happens to him?
Jo: Calm down there mama bear. It’s just a little patch of trees, and there’s nothing on this mountain that can hurt him. And if there is, it’s their funeral.
Y: I know, but I’m just worried. Jack’s been through so much already…
Jo: I know, but he probably just needs to be alone for a little bit.
Y: You’re right. *they spot Jack running out of the tree grove* Oh there he is! *the young looking glacie follows him out of grove* What? *the glacie catches up to Jack, and hugs him again*
J: COLD! *Lumi and Eira see this, and run towards Jack*
Lumi: HEY! Let go of Jack!
Eira: Yeah! I want a turn to hug Jack!
Jo: Maybe we should go see what’s going on.
Y: I think you’re right! *John and Yukiko run towards the kids as Eira separates Jack from the glacie, who reaches out to try to grab Jack again* What’s going on here?
J: There was this weird lady, and she talked to me for a bit, then it snowed and she disappeared, and then this girl was there, and she keeps trying to hug me, but she’s cold!
Jo: Any idea of what he meant?
Y: I guess someone talked to him, and then this glacie showed up. But I’ve never seen glacies anywhere near North Mountain.
Jo: Weird. *the glacie manages to break out of Eira’s grasp, and hugs Jack*
E: Ah!
J: COLD!
Jo: She sure seems to be attached to Jack for some reason.
Y: Yeah. It’s going to be hard to separate them… Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Jo: If it’s that my wife’s a beautiful, wonderful, and kind-hearted person, then yeah. *Yukiko blushes*
Y: You charmer. Hey kids, since this glacie doesn’t want to leave Jack alone, how about we bring her home? Like another new sister?
E: I guess its ok. As long as she lets me hug Jack too.
L: S-sure, why not?
Jo: What do you say Jack?
J: Why’re you asking me?
Y: Why wouldn’t we? You’re a member of this family too. *Jack looks at the glacie hugging him, who stares back*
J: I-I guess we can bring her back home.
Jo: Then it’s decided!
Y: So what should we call her?
J: I have an idea. *Meanwhile Nevada the ice queen reappears in front of her mirror, and finds her husband smiling at her*
IQ: What are you smiling at?
H: I was just thinking how funny it was that you were giving me crap for trying to help people out. And to think you were such a poet too! Although I’ll have dock points for lying to a kid. We don’t get spring here.
IQ: I was trying to make a point.
H: I know. Sorry for calling you selfish earlier.
IQ: And I’m sorry about throwing a fit… I don’t deserve you.
H: And I don’t deserve you either. *Nevada hugs her husband, who holds her tight* By the way, you might not have noticed, but you left a glacie behind.
IQ: I what?! I better go back before..!
H: Hold on a minute. Look. *they both watch the glacie playing with Jack, Eira, and Lumi* See?
IQ: What? I guess she must have been formed when I offered to adopt Jack, and that must have affected her personality.
H: His name’s Jack?
IQ: Yeah. Jack Frost.
H: That’s kind of catchy. No wonder you’re interested in the kid.
IQ: Quiet you.
