  1. Slime people (Homo Limusus) are one of the newer races discovered by humanity. This is because they are not a full race themselves, but rather the result of scientific experiments and accidents involving slimes.
  2. Slimes were first discovered on Epsilon Pavonis III in 2451, and were considered by scientific researchers to be the dominate life form on their planet. It was unclear if they evolved there, or were transported there by some unknown means, as a lack of bony structures meant that there was no fossil evidence. The presence of very similar creatures on other planets and moons would later be used as further evidence to the latter theory. These slimes were originally considered merely a hazardous and unimportant species, however despite the dangers they proved popular pets. When removed from their hot natural environment and put into a climate controlled one meant for humans, they became tamable. One of Nanotrasen's subsidiary companies, Galactic Animal Pets Inc, scooped them up and began selling them to eager consumers.
  3. The slimes fed on simple nucleic acids and water, and used bioelectrical shocks to disable their targets for feeding. While they lacked any observable DNA of their own as known to other carbon based life, their whole body acted as a single massive cell, protecting various organelles. The nucleus of the creature, named the Slime Core by researchers, was the largest of these. The slimes would grow in size based on how much they had fed, and eventually undergo meioses. Chance of mutation for the slime’s SNA (Slime Nucleic Acid) was very high, and they would often change into various colors.
  4. It wasn’t until a xenobiology team studying the creatures on space station Aegis Lab Kilo in 2499 injected the core of the slime with plasma (as they had done to every other living thing on the station already) that they became truly valuable as scientific subjects. It was found that the plasma could reverse the process that the slime used to digest DNA, and eject it as a dry, brittle cube shape. By simply adding water, scientists could reconstitute the DNA back into a living creature in seconds. Nanotrasen ordered slimes to be sent aboard all of their plasma research station and laboratories in order to study these cores.
  5. Green slimes in particular had an interesting effect, as they could synthesize a chemical that would only partially digest DNA. When introduced to a living creature, even a tiny amount of the chemical (dubbed slime toxin) would break down their cellular structure, leaving it them a translucent, blobish creature. The chemical was unable to reach the parts of the body that were no longer connected to the circulatory system, such as the outer layer of the skin and the hair, and was also unable to cross the blood-brain barrier fully. These tissues only partially dissolved and became permeable membranes. The result of exposure then, became fully cognizant slime-human hybrids. Black slimes could also generate this chemical, but at such high levels of concentration the infected person’s body would lose all cohesion, turning them into a creature identical to a slime.
  6. At first, these slime people were only created as test subjects in legally dubious Nanotrasen labs, but some slime researchers noticed that other slimes treated these new beings like their own, and some scientists even deliberately infected themselves in order to make their research easier and safer. Their researchers began to feel that their new form were superior to their old ones, and were a higher form of evolution. Nanotrasen didn’t notice the brewing problem until it was too late.
  7. While AIs did not consider them human, they reveled in their new immunity to high temperatures and electric shocks. Even though cold slowed their slime metabolisms down and they froze easily, it became significantly easier to engage in scientific research. They could not reproduce any longer, as they still had human brain tissue and could not undergo the same meiosis that lesser slimes did; and their human genitals were reduced to the same slime material as the rest of their bodies. They still felt human needs however, including the need to reproduce. An inability to relive this need via "traditional" methods; and governments blind to the pleas of slimes right's activists lead some slime people to resort to drastic measures.
  8. The first terrorist attack was on Mars. In 2530 A Nanotrasen science division had infused slime toxin into several large moisture bombs. These bombs were detonated underneath the city of New Pompeii. Nearly the whole population of the city was turned to slimes within minutes of exposure to the otherwise harmless water vapor. Once the news spread, similar attacks were carried out aboard various stations and cities.
  9. Ineffectual civilian governments were unable to act on the worsening crisis, as their outdated laws and bureaucracies had no case law to work off of regarding ex-humans. Nanotrasen's security forces had to take control. With the help of security cyborgs, the offenders were captured and dipped in liquid nitrogen in a show of force. Nanotrasen updated their space laws to inform all crewmemebers that forcibly turning people into slime people was a crime, punishable by whatever station security saw fit, which was a very threatening proposition. Further attacks were rare, but not non-existent.
  10. While becoming a slime was quick and easy, reversing the process was very difficult and time consuming. Simple methods such as cloning did not work, as the individual no longer had DNA to clone. The return a slime person to their body involved a difficult and dangerous brain transplant that has only recently been perfected. As a result, Nanotrasen has upgraded all of the cloning machines on board their stations to accommodate SNA and allow the cloning of slime people.
  11. Today, slime people and humans get along fairly well. Though they are still not considered human, they have the same rights as other non-humans aboard Nanotrasen stations, including Vox and Plasmamen. Because they still have human emotion and human drives, they generally make friends easily, and can relate to human crew members easily. Stereotypes of slime people include: Intelligent/nerdy (due to their high percentage of scientists), prideful (a negative result of the terrorist attacks), and flirty (due to the aforementioned reproduction inability.) [note: Nanotrasen has strict rules regarding sexual relations between coworkers! Do not role play this into ERP territory!] As with all beings, not all slime people meet these stereotypes, and because many were turned against their will, it is extremely common to find people who are completely different from the stereotypes.
