  1. Background: An anon on /utg/ posted "Your favorite gets ported into Smash Ultimate. What dialog does Snake get when performing the codec call Easter egg?" Several anons responded over multiple threads and these are the ones I was able to find.
  2.
  3. ---Papyrus---
  4.
  5. "Mei, I'm fighting what looks like a skeleton in a cape."
  6.
  7. "That's Papyrus the Skeleton, Snake. He's an aspiring member of monsterkind's Royal Guard."
  8.
  9. "Aspiring, hrmm. So he couldn't hack it."
  10.
  11. "Not for lack of trying. Don't underestimate him. If you get hit by his 'blue attack' you'll be anchored to the ground, making you easy prey for his magic attacks."
  12.
  13. "So all I have to do is get him in the air?"
  14.
  15. "If only it were that easy. He's also light on his feet, and way sturdier than he looks. Honestly, he'd be a shoo-in for the Royal Guard if he had the stomach for violence."
  16.
  17. "Heh. Stomach, eh?"
  18.
  19. "Focus, Snake! Have you ever heard the proverb 'the wise eagle sheathes its claws'?"
  20.
  21. "No. What's it mean?"
  22.
  23. "It means that someone who's able to restrain their power can be far more dangerous than someone who just goes all-out at the least provocation. Papyrus doesn't like to hurt people, but that just means he knows exactly how much strength to use to overcome any opponent. Push him too far, and you just might get blasted."
  24.
  25. "Got it. I'll be careful."
  26.
  27. "Good luck, Snake!"
  28.
  29. ---Undyne---
  30.
  31. "Otacon, I'm fighting some kind of blue fish lady."
  32.
  33. "That's Undyne, Snake. She's the Captain of King Asgore's Royal Guard and a hero to monsterkind. To those she protects, she's known as the Spear of Justice."
  34.
  35. "Spear of Justice? If she's such a hero then why is she trying to kill me?"
  36.
  37. "She hates humans for wrongly imprisoning her kind underground ages ago. Most of them, anyways. But she does like anime so she can't be all bad, right? Maybe we can talk about it after the fight."
  38.
  39. "Focus, Otacon."
  40.
  41. "Right. Watch out for that spear of her's. It's got plenty of reach and can be thrown at distant targets. It's also made of magic so she can conjure a new one at will without having to retrieve thrown ones. If you're fast, you might be able to pick up and throw discarded spears before they dissipate."
  42.
  43. "Hmm... Looks like she's seen her fair share of combat. She's wearing an eyepatch."
  44.
  45. "You don't fight your way to the top of the Royal Guard without a few bumps and bruises, Snake. You also seem to have a history of people with eyepatches. Big Boss's phantom, the real Big Boss, Solidus, Raiden, and now her. Maybe you can try attacking her blindspot on her left side."
  46.
  47. "Got it."
  48.
  49. --Mettaton--
  50.
  51. "Otacon, it's me. It looks like I'm fighting some kind of...flamboyant robot. What can you tell me about-"
  52.
  53. "Oh my God, it's Mettaton!"
  54.
  55. "M-Mettaton?"
  56.
  57. "Snake, that's the undisputed superstar of the entire monster civilization. He commands a media empire with himself in every starring role. Song, dance, action, comedy, cooking, newscasts...he does it all!"
  58.
  59. "Hrmm. Sounds like you're a fan."
  60.
  61. "W-well, I caught a few of his streams a while back, and...a-anyway, it's not important. Listen, Snake - he might act flashy, but there's a lot of genuine power in that robot body. He can summon clones of himself to harass you with electricity from afar, but if you get in close, you'll find he's a competent melee fighter as well. Especially those legs. A single kick from one of those heels packs enough force to pierce six centimeters of steel!"
  62.
  63. "In that case, I'll harass him with rockets and try to limit his movement. ...hrmm."
  64.
  65. "What is it, Snake?"
  66.
  67. "You said he summons clones of himself, but these look like little calculators. Holding umbrellas."
  68.
  69. "That's Mettaton's base form. It's got nearly as much offensive power and it's almost impervious to harm, but he prefers the bipedal body because it's more stylish."
  70.
  71. "That hardly sounds practical."
  72.
  73. "Aesthetics are always a consideration, Snake, even for weapons of war. That goes for the Metal Gears, too. The ideal synthesis of power and glamour - that's Mettaton!"
  74.
  75. "That so. Guess I'll have to show you both that function trumps form, every time."
  76.
  77. "Don't hold back, Snake. Mettaton makes a spectacle out of everything he does. The whole of monsterkind could be watching your fight!"
  78.
  79. "Nnngh...no pressure."
  80.
  81. ---Asgore---
  82.
  83. "I don't like the looks of this one, Otacon."
  84.
  85. "That's Asgore Dreemurr, Snake. The king of all monsters."
  86.
  87. "King of all monsters?"
  88.
  89. "That's right, and it's not just a title. He's one of the toughest monsters out there. His flames are dangerous at a distance, but if you get in close, you'll have to contend with that trident instead."
  90.
  91. "Looks like it's glowing."
  92.
  93. "That's because his weapon is made of magic, too. He can freely dismiss and reform it at will, so disarming him won't work."
  94.
  95. "Sounds like a nasty piece of work, all right."
  96.
  97. "There's rumors that he's killed humans before. Children, even."
  98.
  99. "That so? He looks intimidating, but his eyes...they're not a killer's."
  100.
  101. "Not everyone has the soul of a warrior, Snake. Violence damages people on both sides. Could be he's just waiting for someone to put him out of his misery..."
  102.
  103. "Thinking of Sniper Wolf at a time like this, Otacon?"
  104.
  105. "I guess we both need to focus."
  106.
  107. "Hrmm. He's waiting for me to make the first move. Guess I'd better oblige him."
  108.
  109. "Be careful, Snake."
  110.
  111. "Always."
  112.
  113. ---Flowey---
  114.
  115. "Otacon...there's a happy, smiling flower here. But for some reason, I've got a really bad feeling about it."
  116.
  117. "Trust your instincts, Snake. He calls himself Flowey, and he's every bit as dangerous as the other enemies you've faced."
  118.
  119. "A flower called 'Flowey?' Sounds like something a little kid would come up with..."
  120.
  121. "That might actually be the case. The psych analysts apparently had a field day with this one. Flowey puts up a facade of acting cheery and helpful, but underneath it he has a child's penchant for senseless cruelty. It's like he can only amuse himself by hurting others."
  122.
  123. "Violence without purpose...child or not, that's not something I can overlook."
  124.
  125. "Since he's a flower his aerial capability is practically nil, but he's deceptively fast and his vines have tremendous reach. He's also fond of trapping his prey in a ring of pellet-shaped projectiles. If you get caught in that, you'll take a lot of damage. He might have other skills we're not aware of...honestly, I'm not even sure if he's really a monster."
  126.
  127. "Then what is he?"
  128.
  129. "Hard to say. But we've unearthed some disturbing details. Monsterkind was running experiments with human souls as a way to break free of their captivity. Instead they got Flowey."
  130.
  131. "I guess monsters and humans alike make desperate choices under extreme circumstances..."
  132.
  133. "And unfortunately it's up to people like you to clean up the mess."
  134.
  135. "Hmph. If this flower thinks I'm easy prey, it's about to get a surprise."
  136.
  137. "Don't hold back, Snake. No matter what!"
  138.
  139. ---Asriel---
  140.
  141. "Colonel...what the hell am I looking at here?"
  142.
  143. "That's Asriel Dreemurr, the former Prince of Monsters. He's taken in the power of human souls and become a being that he calls the Absolute God of Hyperdeath."
  144.
  145. "The Absolute God of...what?"
  146.
  147. "It's not undeserved, Snake. Comets, lightning, lasers, and his special blades, the Chaos Sabers...in this state, he has complete control of the battlefield. And his ultimate attack, the Hyper Goner, can emit energy comparable to a small-scale thermonuclear weapon."
  148.
  149. "So this is the true power of monsters, huh..."
  150.
  151. "Remember, Snake, he's still a child at heart. To him, this is all just a twisted game."
  152.
  153. "Are you saying I should go easy on him?"
  154.
  155. "I'm saying that you should show him that this isn't playtime. Use every tool at your disposal and keep closing distance. He might have power, but he's still no match for you, Snake."
  156.
  157. "You're flattering me, Colonel."
  158.
  159. "A single human is equal to a thousand monsters, and you're a match for a hundred ordinary humans. Go show this so-called god what a real soldier can do!"
  160.
  161. "So now I have to defeat a god...hrmm. Here I come, Your Highness."
  162.
  163. ---Kris---
  164.
  165. "Colonel, I'm up against a blue-haired swordfighter."
  166.
  167. "Snake, didn't I already tell you about Ike--"
  168.
  169. "It's not Ike."
  170.
  171. "Is it Marth?"
  172.
  173. "Nope."
  174.
  175. "Lucina?"
  176.
  177. "Nuh uh."
  178.
  179. "What about her father, Chrom?"
  180.
  181. "That's a negative."
  182.
  183. "Ah, then it must be Kris. Kris is the leader of a group of warriors called the Fun Gang who toppled a tyrant king."
  184.
  185. "Fun Gang? I think I would have picked a different name."
  186.
  187. "In his hometown of Hometown, Kris is known as a loner prankster but on the battlefield, he's both a commander and frontline fighter able to inspire his comrades and sway even the toughest enemies to his side not unlike Big Boss."
  188.
  189. "Only in battle does he let his true self emerge... Hmm, I suppose I can relate to that."
  190.
  191. "Kris is incredibly charismatic and will attempt to use his irresistible charm to weaken your resolve. When he points with ACT, avoid the hearts or you'll be stunned and left open for a follow-up attack. That sword of his may be wooden but it still packs a wallop."
  192.
  193. "Colonel, he's... spinning. It's making me dizzy..."
  194.
  195. "That's his pirouette move! Look away, Snake!"
  196.
  197. "I'll... Try... Colonel..."
  198.
  199. ---Susie---
  200.
  201. "Mei Ling, this purple Yoshi in a wig has learned how to use an axe! It's also using words I can understand and wearing clothes! Are they evolving? Is it time for mankind to pass the torch?"
  202.
  203. "That's not a Yoshi, Snake. That's Susie."
  204.
  205. "Not a Yoshi? Could have fooled me. She tried to eat me."
  206.
  207. "Susie comes from Hometown just like Kris and is the toughest member of the Fun Gang. She's also the rudest and crudest."
  208.
  209. "I figured that part out from the insults."
  210.
  211. "It even extends to her signature move, the Rude Buster. It's a ranged attack that can be charged to become the Red Buster for even greater reach and power. Be careful up close as well. Her Mane Ax is slower and heavier than a sword but hits harder and she's very strong for her age."
  212.
  213. "She's got moves for keeping people from getting close and pushing them away if they do."
  214.
  215. "She doesn't seem happy about it, though. I think it's part of a front to avoid getting hurt and also her way of dealing with issues we don't know about. And while I won't speculate too much on her home life, I do know it's not normal to only have a piece of chalk for breakfast. There's no Chinese proverb advising that."
  216.
  217. "During Operation Snake Eater, Big Boss ate just about anything to survive. But he was a soldier on a mission. She's just a kid trying to make it through high school. I think I'll give her a ration when this fight's over."
  218.
  219. "That's nice of you, Snake. And for that, I do have a proverb. A nap will buy you an hour of happiness. Going fishing - a day. Inheriting a fortune - a year. But if you want happiness for a lifetime, help someone else. You might even make a friend."
  220.
  221. ---Ralsei #1---
  222.
  223. "Mei Ling, it's Snake. There's something here...small, fuzzy, dressed like a wizard."
  224.
  225. "That's Ralsei, Prince of the Dark World."
  226.
  227. "The Dark World?"
  228.
  229. "Yes. Supposedly it's a world separate from this one. But he doesn't have any subjects, so he's out there all alone."
  230.
  231. "I hope he didn't come here to make friends. Pretty sure I can see his knees shaking."
  232.
  233. "That's because he's an ardent pacifist, Snake. Ralsei can't stand fighting. Honestly, I'm surprised he's out there in the first place."
  234.
  235. "Nnngh...a pacifist child? He must have known what he was getting into, but I don't really feel good about this."
  236.
  237. "He can still defend himself. That scarf of his makes for a versatile weapon all on its own - if you're not careful, he'll fling you all over the battlefield. He can use his magic to cover your vision with darkness if he gets in close. And his singing is supposedly beautiful enough to put someone to sleep."
  238.
  239. "Heh. Reminds me of a certain Pokemon."
  240.
  241. "There's more. If he wears you down enough, he might be able to hit you with his Pacify spell. And that'll be the end of the fight, Snake."
  242.
  243. "!? You mean that if I let my guard down, he'd-"
  244.
  245. "No, don't be silly. But he'll put you into a sleep so deep that you won't wake up until long after the fight's over."
  246.
  247. "Waking up on an empty battlefield...nnngh. There's an embarrassing thought. Still not thrilled about fighting him, though."
  248.
  249. "Neither am I. But here's a proverb for you, Snake: "A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials." A fight with you might be just what Ralsei needs to face the larger world."
  250.
  251. "Well, when you put it that way..."
  252.
  253. "And if a pacifist like Ralsei has decided to take to the battlefield, he's ready to give his all. Underestimate him, and you might get a good 'polishing' yourself."
  254.
  255. "Heh. We'll see."
  256.
  257. ---Ralsei #2---
  258.
  259. “Otacon, this kid looks a lot like Asriel but he’s dressed like a wizard or something.”
  260.
  261. “Sounds like you’ve encountered Ralsei, Snake. He’s a prince from the Dark World and part of the Fun Gang.”
  262.
  263. “RAL… SEI? Hmm… Keep the E… Move the L to the end… Hey, that’s an anagram! Is he really just Asriel in disguise?”
  264.
  265. “I’m pretty confident they’re not the same person or even from the same universe.”
  266.
  267. “Really? I was able to fool plenty of people with my ‘Iroquois Pliskin’ act.”
  268.
  269. “Um, yeah, sure, Snake.”
  270.
  271. “Well, if he’s not Asriel’s alter ego, could he be a clone? The result of a ‘Les Chèvres Terribles’ project for Boss Monsters?”
  272.
  273. “If monsters were trying to recreate legendary soldiers, I don’t think Ralsei would be the finished product. He’s gentle and sensitive and dislikes fighting.”
  274.
  275. “Then why is he here?”
  276.
  277. “To support Kris and Susie, mostly. He goes wherever they go and does whatever they do because he believes in the ‘Legend of the Delta Rune’ that they’re heroes destined to save his world as well as their own from a great calamity.”
  278.
  279. “Following someone and taking their orders just because they’re a hero or legend… Kind of clingy, isn’t he?”
  280.
  281. (quietly) “You don’t have to say that, Snake…”
  282.
  283. “What was that, Otacon?”
  284.
  285. (tense) “Ah, yes, Ralsei! He might not be the most physically imposing member of the Fun Gang but he makes up for it with powerful magic! He can heal himself as well as others, sing a lullaby that puts you to sleep, and has a spell called ‘Pacify’ that sends you flying if you’re snoozing. Yup, Kris and Susie sure are lucky to have a friend like Ralsei who’ll stick with them through thick and thin, no matter what.”
  286.
  287. “Yeah, but do they have a secret handshake like we do?”
  288.
  289. (relieved) “Nope!”
