Yogiri had thought that by riding Atila up into the cumulonimbus cloud, they would be able to bypass any annoying gimmicks in the pyramid, but things weren’t going to be so easy. As they rushed into the cloud, a sudden impact threw them into confusion.

Something had tossed him into the air. Looking around, he found Atila falling, her wings motionless, while Tomochika and Dai were flailing helplessly as they plummeted.

“What happened?!” Tomochika cried.

“Maybe we hit something.”

Atila would know best, but she was stunned at the moment.

“We’re kind of falling here! We’re going to hit the ground!”

“I’m sure we’ll be fine,” Yogiri replied.

“How can you say that?!”

“It doesn’t look like we’re going to die.”

“That’s not comforting at all!”

Similar to his ability to sense others’ intent to harm him, Yogiri could also tell when he was in a situation that could threaten his life. Stabilizing himself in the air, he moved closer to Tomochika and grabbed hold of her.

“What?!” The sudden action took her by surprise, but a moment later, they were in the forest. Plunging violently through the trees, they struck the ground hard. Anyone would expect them to die from such a fall, or even if a miracle occurred and they survived, to no doubt suffer crippling injuries.

“Ow...”

“Wait, how are we okay?!”

They were basically unharmed. Though they felt the impact on their bodies, it was a little different from tripping and falling on the road.

“I imagine it is due to the effects of the armor the Great Sage gave you,” Mokomoko suggested.

It seemed capable of protecting them from falling a great distance.

アティラ に 乗っ て ピラミッド の 上 に ある 積乱雲 へと 飛ん で いけ ば、 余計 な ギミック には ひっかから ず に 済む だろ う。 夜霧 は そう 思っ た の だ が、 そう 簡単 に 話 は 進ま なかっ た。 　 上空 へと 飛ん で いき、 雲 に 突入 し た ところ で 夜霧 は 衝撃 と共に 前後不覚 に 陥っ た の だ。 　 どういう わけ か、 いきなり 宙 に 放り出さ れ て いる。 　 あたり を 見回せ ば、 アティラ は 羽ばたき を やめ て 落ち て いる し、 知 千 佳 も ダイ も 手足 を ばたつかせ ながら 落ち て い た。 「何 なの いきなり!?」 「何 かに ぶつかっ た のかな」 　 何 が 起こっ た のか、 一番 わかっ て いる で あろ う アティラ は 目 を 回し て い た。 「落ち てる ん だ けど！ 　 この まま だ と 激突 する ん だ けど！」 「…… まあ、 大丈夫 な ん じゃ ない かな」 「なん で!?」「死ぬ 気 が し ない から」 「全然 大丈夫 な 気 が し ない な！」 　 殺意 と 同じ よう な もの で、 自分 が 死ぬ 状況 なのか どう かが 夜霧 には なんとなく わかる の だ。 　 夜霧 は、 姿勢 を 制御 し て 知 千 佳 へと 近づき 抱き かかえ た。 「え！」 　 知 千 佳 が とまどう。 次 の 瞬間、 二人 は 森 に 墜落 し て い た。 　 森 の 木々 を 派手 に 折り、 地面 に めり込ん だ の だ。 普通 なら 死ん で いる だろ う し、 奇跡的 に 助かっ た として も 大 怪我 は 免れ ない だろ う。 「いて て……」 「って、 なんで それ で 済ん でる の!?」 　 だが、 夜霧 たち は ほぼ 無傷 だっ た。 確か に 全身 に 衝撃 を 感じ は し た が、 道 で 転ん だ 程度 の 痛み しか なかっ た の だ。 『大賢 者 の 防具 の おかげ だろ う な』 　 ＳＳＲ ランク の 防具 は、 高所 からの 落下 にでも 耐え うる もの の よう だ。
