  1. Final Fantasy V FAQ
  2.
  3. 1. World Record?
  4. It's a little bit complicated:
  5. The World Record with the English translation patch (RPGe 1.1) is 4:00:05 by Swed7. (Timed from New game -> Last hit)
  6. The World Record on the Japanese version is 4:10:30 by すにゃお (Suniyao). (Time from power on -> End of credits)
  7. It's important to note that all Japanese runners (currently) run "glitchless", so their times are not fairly comparable to mine.
  8. Also, I use English timing for my runs, since in my runs the credits will crash so I can't use the usual Japanese timing. Japanese runners also often use turbo while I (currently) do not. This is why I compare my times to the English translation times, despite me having a sizeable advantage from less text.
  9.
  10. 2. Why do you run the Japanese version?
  11. I wanted to run the SNES version of the game, of which there is no official release in English. There are only official English releases on Playstation, GBA and iOS.
  12.
  13. 3. Can you read Japanese?
  14. Not really, no. I can read hiragana and katakana, which can be useful because often items and abilities translate into "Engrish". For example "エリクサー" = "Erikusa (Elixir). I've mostly just learned to recognise item/ability names, or have memorised where they are.
  15.
  16. Glitch explanations:
  17. There are 2 main glitches I use:
  18. Item underflow glitch: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Infinite_Items_Glitch
  19. This is done by throwing an empty space in the inventory with a ninja, making the empty space become "-1" empty spaces then stealing an item, ensuring that it fills the spot in the inventory where the thrown empty space was. This will give you 0 of the stolen item (up from the -1 empty space). Then throwing the stolen item, so that you have -1 of the stolen item. The game cannot handle negative values of inventory items, so you instead are given 255.
  20.
  21. Kiss of Blessing glitch: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Kiss_of_Blessing_Bug
  22. This is a mix (Revivify + Maiden's Kiss) that inflicts Haste, Image and Berserk. It was intended to be a friendly mix to use on allies, however you can mix this on enemies, and the berserk bypasses any immunity, so you can force any enemy in the game to only be able to attack. This is especially useful on Exdeath, as due to the berserk status effect, he will be unable to cast his transformation spell to transform into Neo Ex-death when he reaches 0HP, so Neo-exdeath is skipped entirely.
