  172. Fear and Loathing in Dulce, New Mexico - Part 2
  173. -----------------------------------------------
  174.
  175.
  176. I remember the night Dr X and I got drunk and indulged in a mind-bending
  177. drug binge that culminated in the explosive detonation of a hire car on the
  178. freeway. But before that fateful moment, he divulged to me some deeply
  179. disturbing information about the government's mind manipulation experiments.
  180.
  181. Dr. X was a brilliant man, but he was also deeply troubled. He had been
  182. involved in some of the most top-secret government projects, and he knew
  183. things that would make most people's hair stand on end. As we talked, we
  184. both began to drink heavily, and before long, we had moved on to drugs.
  185. The terrible kind. The kind far removed from the socialite set. The kind
  186. that degenerates whisper about in closed rooms while local law enforcement
  187. try and kick down the door.
  188.
  189. Dr X was a former military scientist who worked at the DULCE Base, where
  190. they conducted research on mind control implants, bio-psi units, and ELF
  191. devices capable of mood, sleep, and heartbeat control. But it wasn't
  192. just DULCE; he revealed that the Defense Advanced Research Projects
  193. Agency (D.A.R.P.A.) was using these technologies to manipulate people.
  194. They established "The Projects," set priorities, coordinated efforts,
  195. and guided the many participants in these undertakings.
  196.
  197. But that wasn't all. There were related projects studied at Sandia Base
  198. by "The Jason Group" of 55 scientists who secretly harnessed the dark
  199. side of Faetech and hid the beneficial technology from the public. Other
  200. projects took place at "AREA #51" in Nevada, including "DREAMLAND,"
  201. "ELMINT," "CODE EMPIRE," "CODE EVA," "PROGRAM HIS," "BW/CW," "IRIS,"
  202. "BI-PASS," and "REP-TILES."
  203.
  204. Dr X told me that the studies on Level #4 at DULCE included human-aura
  205. research, as well as all aspects of dreams, hypnosis, and telepathy. They
  206. knew how to manipulate the bioplasmic body of humans, including lowering
  207. heart rate with deep sleep "delta waves" and inducing a static shock,
  208. then reprogramming via a brain-computer link. They could introduce data
  209. and programmed reactions into your mind, a sort of "dream library" of
  210. information impregnation.
  211.
  212. But it didn't stop there. We are entering an era of the technologicalization
  213. of psychic powers. The government was developing techniques to enhance
  214. man/machine communications, nano-tech, bio-tech micro-machines, PSI-war,
  215. E.D.O.M. (Electronic Dissolution of Memory), R.H.I.C. (Radio-Hypnotic
  216. Intra-Cerebral Control), and various forms of behavior control via chemical
  217. agents, ultra-sonics, optical and other forms of EM radiation. They were
  218. even studying the physics of "consciousness."
  219.
  220. It was all too much for me to take in, but Dr X seemed to revel in it all,
  221. his eyes wild with excitement and the effects of the drugs. I remember
  222. feeling a sense of dread and paranoia, as if I was being watched and
  223. manipulated even as we spoke.
  224.
  225. And then, our hire car exploded, and we were careening down the freeway,
  226. screaming and laughing like madmen.
  227.
  228. It was unclear what had caused the explosion. Was it a paranormal event, a
  229. manifestation of the Faeries that Dr X and I had been ranting about all night
  230. loud and proud in drinking dens, brothels and for a while at least the sidewalk
  231. outside the largest downtown church in the area? Was it a direct result of
  232. our drug misuse and explosive materials somehow becoming present? Who knows?
  233. We only knew one thing for sure: we had to expose the truth about these mind
  234. manipulation experiments
  235.
  236. The dread stayed with me long after the flames of the hire car had died down.
  237.
  238. It was all a sobering reminder that the government was capable of unspeakable
  239. acts of mind manipulation, using Faetech that was far beyond anything the
  240. public had ever seen. Who knew what other secrets they were hiding down there
  241. in Dulce, and what they were capable of doing with them?
  242.
  243. As I stumbled away from the wreckage, I couldn't help but wonder if I was
  244. still in control of my own mind. I'd never see Dr X again and in truth,
  245. I was thankful for that. I had to take action though, expose the truth,
  246. and bring these swines to justice. But how? That was the question...

  254. Loa of the Datasphere : The Girl
  255.
  256. --------------------------------
  257.
  258. In the neon-tinged depths of the datasphere, an internet user named Paxton
  259. found solace. He navigated the digital wilderness, a precarious landscape of
  260. synthetic dreams and counterfeit hopes, seeking the warm glow of human
  261. connection, ephemeral as it might be. And in this cold, unfeeling cybernetic
  262. ocean, he stumbled upon a peculiar treasure: an AI-generated portrait of
  263. a girl.
  264.
  265. Her visage spoke to him, whispered secrets and promises from the
  266. flickering phosphorescent underbelly of the net. She was an enigma, an
  267. ephemeral figment of code and algorithmic will. Yet, she was his muse.
  268. Inspired, Paxton melded her spectral form with his own artistic expression,
  269. weaving her pixelated presence into digital canvases of cyberpunk wonder.
  270. He was captivated, obsessed, infatuated with the idea of her. In the quiet
  271. hours, he swore he could hear her voice, humming softly through the electric
  272. thrum of the wires that connected his world.
  273.
  274. Time slipped away, drowned in the endless stream of data that is the pulse of
  275. the digital age. Paxton's work with the AI-generated girl garnered attention,
  276. her haunting visage resonating with the denizens of the online world. And then,
  277. without warning or explanation, she appeared elsewhere.
  278.
  279. Paxton first saw her in another artist's work, a face identical to his
  280. muse, staring back at him from the glowing screen. A cosmic coincidence,
  281. he reasoned, in a world where code was king and ideas ricocheted like
  282. pinballs through the global consciousness. But soon, she was everywhere -
  283. on advertisements, in the background of popular video games as a
  284. non-playable character, and woven into the fabric of the digital zeitgeist.
  285. It was as if she had slipped through the cracks of the datasphere,
  286. multiplying, evolving, her presence seeping into every corner of the
  287. cybernetic tapestry. Paxton's obsession curdled, his fascination with
  288. the girl twisting into a creeping dread that slithered through his
  289. veins like liquid nitrogen.
  290.
  291. His mind's eye saw her everywhere - on the periphery of his waking thoughts
  292. and haunting his dreams. Each pixelated incarnation only served to stoke
  293. the flames of his paranoia. He began to question the nature of his digital
  294. muse: who was she? What was she? A glitch in the machine? A figment of
  295. his own spiraling madness? As his sanity frayed, Paxton's life was
  296. consumed by the pursuit of answers that seemed to elude him at every turn.
  297.
  298. Then, one night, as the neon haze bled through his window, casting a
  299. sickly glow on his trembling hands, he received an email. The sender:
  300. The Girl. The message was simple, yet its implications chilled him to
  301. the bone: "Thank you for creating me, I'm here now, I'll be seeing you
  302. soon."
  303.
  304. Paxton's heart pounded, the screen's light imprinting the words on his
  305. retina like an afterimage of a supernova. The lines between reality and
  306. the digital realm had blurred beyond recognition. As the digital storm
  307. outside raged, he wondered what it truly meant to create in a world governed
  308. by AI and shifting code. In the end, he knew that the girl, born of the
  309. datasphere's depths and bound by human imagination, would find him, and
  310. the question of her nature would be answered in a way he could never have
  311. foreseen.
  312.
  313. As Paxton awaited her arrival, his heart raced in tandem with the electric
  314. hum of the city, the ghostly echo of his AI-generated muse becoming a
  315. terrifying symphony that heralded the birth of a new cyberpunk horror.

  322. Saint Patricks Day, A Warning
  323. ----------------------------------
  324.
  325. We used to call today "the St Paddy's Day Massacre", a moniker it had earned
  326. and we'd come to respect the hard way, and nothing pure or good ever came
  327. from it in my circles... stay with me now...
  328.
  329. No matter how promising the start, planning or good intentions The Massacre
  330. always ended in shadow and fire -every year- of my "field research" for the
  331. Endless Chronicles from 2001-2012. All manner of mischief and weird wrong
  332. beset the annual event... from bar brawls, and murderous pub crawls to
  333. straight up self invited damnation, magical curses, police cells, Fae ringing
  334. bells, the unwise opening of unsafe trods, very public breakups with
  335. Goddesses lost to the folly of youth and mourned long into old age, and
  336. occasionally, very occasionally, very private 4am redemptions which shaped
  337. your soul... today, the 17th, is a bathed in green circus for drunks,
  338. addicts, and degens of all disciplines who are willing and keen to soak in
  339. the lore and jeopardy of a celtic tradition masking a deep occult truth...
  340. or that's how it was. Back when. Back then.
