A DarkGate Academy Spin off FanFic
The attempt to seal the Rift that caused the incursions that happened at DarkGate Academy failed.
The spell backfire from The Star tore the rift wide open and caused a vast swath of Japan to be dragged into the Darkworld, Demons poured out of the Rift and once fertile land around the Rift became a barren desert.
It has been nearly 60 year's since the Fall of DarkGate Academy, You are Ryoji Shida the 4th last scion of the Shida clan and Grandson of Ryoji Shida Jr. and Saki Kobashi. And you and a handful of other survivors granted the blessings of angels stand between  the endless waves of demons, and what remains of Japan and those who were unable to flee before the UN put into effect the quarantine protocols and placed a Naval blockade around the Island nation sink any ships and shooting down any planes that tried to escape the demons.

You sit at the top of a ridge overlooking a small outpost of the Conquerors  Demons just south of the Rift waiting for your Partner to come back from gathering intell on the new out flux of sentient demons that have appeared over the last few year, a pleasant and chilling change of pace from the endless waves of mindless masses that first poured through the Rift at the beginning.

You can't stand waiting like this, the wind is blowing sand in your face. What is taking Avy so long?
“That's it, I'm going in after her” You proclaim into the sandy winds.
You start making your way down the embankment of the ridge remaining out of site of the lookout tower.
It take you roughly 10 minutes to climb down to the bottom, Now hiding behind a large boulder you take a look at the gate of the outpost. The walls of the outpost are roughly 10ft tall they seems to be made of some kind of dark stone material probably brought from the DarkWorld by the Demons who set up the outpost. A few humanoid Demons stand outside the entrance.
You can't help but wounder if you could just throw up your hood and casually stroll in as a few humanoid demons in long robes walk through the entrance without being hassled by the Guards.

Fuck, Avy is late, something must have happened to her. I have to go after her, It's the Shida way after all.
You take a deep breath, and steel your nerves, throw your hood up, pull the strings tight and walk up to the entrance of the out post. Your heart pounding as you walk by the Guards “Morning” you mumble over the word in the Demon tongue. Your Heart nearly stops as one of the guards returns your greeting and waves you on through.
Beyond the Entrance you find a small bustling market and humanoid demons going about their shopping you scan the crowd for Avy

It doesn't take you long to spot her red hair in the crowd of robed Demons
She appears to be halfway down the market place arguing with some shopkeeper about something.
Knowing Avy, she's probably trying to haggle him down on the price of food

Since your grasp of the Demon tongue is shaky at best you choose to wait and see how this turns out.
Avy's always been pretty good at getting people to give her free stuff, especially food.
Yup there she goes giving the poor shopkeep her sad puppydog eyes and wiggling her wings.
You can't help but think about your history with Avy while she tries to get as much as she can from the Demon.
Arvad or as you've always called her Avy was a parting gift from The Stranger when he and your Grandfather entered the Rift after Grandma Saki passed away. The only Living Demi of the Stranger has been your companion as far back as you can remember. She's kinda dumb and compared to some of the Demons you've fought she's not very powerful, her appetite definitely doesn't befit a girl. But she's been a loyal companion and good friend and her natural ability to speak the Demon tongue has been helpful.
Oh looks like she's heading your way carry a bag of food, it doesn't look like she's noticed you yet...

A wicked smile crosses your face as you devise a plan.
You walk up behind Avy wordlessly tap her shoulder with one hand and as she turns you nab her bag of goods with the other, then duck behind a stall in one fluid perfect motion.
The look on Avy's face when she realizes what just happened is better than you could have hoped for as you watch her panic search the crowd for whoever took her food.
You make your way out of the outpost and past the guards, who wave you off as you head back to your meeting point. You get comfortable and check out what Avy scored from the shopkeeper. A few strange looking fruits with faces on them, what looks like a cured meat stick of some sort, and few small buns.
You can see a Red haired Demon come charging past the guards as she searches for the thief, you watch as she runs around the outpost then gives up and starts making her way to the meeting spot

You know exactly what in this bag will get the biggest rise out of Avy if she finds you eating.
The Buns, Avy loves bread, it is by far her single favourite type of food. Can't say you've ever eaten bread from the DarkWorld but it looks less likely to kill you than the strange meat or fruit with faces on them.
You reach into the bag and pull one of the small yellowish buns out and take a big Bite of it when you see Avy's red hair come into view up the path to the meeting spot.
The bread is sweet and mildly sour, kind of reminds you of Lemonade.
You lock eyes with Avy as you chew on her bun as the she realizes it was you who stole her food.
“MY FOOOOOOD” Avy cries out as she charges up to you

Avy charges at you in an attempt to tackle you, you wait till the last moment then side step out of her way, causing her to slam full speed into the dead tree behind you.
“Ugggguuuuuu” Avy's whimpers as she rubs the top of her head
“Why did you steal my stuff Ryoji?” she asks holding back a few tears
“Because you were late for check in” you respond in a firm tone as you take another bite out of the bun
“I-I wasn't that la” she starts before you interrupt her
“Late enough I got concerned and came to rescue you, only to find out you were just late because you were trying to get extra food for free from a shopkeeper, so you even remember why we came out here” You scold her and wave the half eaten bun in front her face and smirk as her eyes follow it around
“Ughh to look into why the Demons were building an outpost on this side of the Rift” she responds only half paying attention as you lift the half eaten bread over her face and she looks up still following it
“That's right, now did you actually find out why? Or have we wasted at trip out here Avy” you say as you continue to tease her with the bread before finally popping the rest into your mouth, you can see Avy's heart sink as you do so.
“Ugh well it sounds like they where coming here to to set up an outpost for the Conqueror to launch an invasion but something happened and now most of the Demons here are fleeing from some ArchDemon that's attacked the Conqueror's territory” She says looking down at the ground lamenting the loss of her bun.

You may have gone to far there, you think to yourself as you reach in to the bag and grab another bun.
“Here Avy, thanks for getting the info before you went shopping, but next time try and get back before I start thinking the worst has happened to you” you say and push a bun into her mouth as she looks up
“Imm shhhoryyy” She mumbles out as she chews on the sweet bun.
You reach into the bad again and pull out one of the strange looking facefruits and sit down next to Avy and take a bite out of it.
OH MY GOD IT”S FUCKING SOUR

You spit the sour fruit out as fast as your body will allow, startling Avy as you do so. It takes everything you have not to throw up any juice that may have seeped into you stomach. You pitch the foul fruit over the side of the ridge and wipe you tongue off.
“Hey are you okay?” a concerned Avy asks while passing you a bottle of water from the pack of supplies sitting by the tree.
“Ugh that was the single most sour thing I have ever eaten in my life” you respond grabbing the water bottle from her hands and swishing the contents around in your mouth trying to remove the taste from your mouth.
“The shopkeeper said they where a little under ripe, that's why he gave me so many” Avy says while rubbing your back like that will actually help you.
“You should have told me they weren't ready to eat” You chide her
“Well if you wanted a warning maybe you shouldn't steal my stuff” Avy says and puffs up her cheeks and looks away
“Then don't give me another reason to” you say as  you lean back and kick out your legs
“I guess we should start heading back it's nearly a full day trek back to the campsite and Yuki will get pissed off if we make her wait too long” Avy says as she watches you stretch out

“Yeah that's probably for the best” you agree with Avy as you stand up and hoist the bag of supplies onto your back. And head out into the sandy wastes of what was once Japanese countryside.
The sun has long since sunk beyond the horizon and a deep chill has set in as you and Avy start to near where the others set up camp when you broke off to go scouting.
“Why does it always have to get so cold at night?” Avy whines to you as she rubs her arms trying to keep warm
“I can never understand how a Demi-Demon gets cold, aren't you supposed to be tough” you joke as Avy give you her trademark sadpuppy eyes
“I'm barely 18 it takes years for a Demons true powers to start developing, I'm like a defenceless sheep surrounded by wolves” Avy pouts and leans against you
You place your hand on top of her head and ruffle her hair in response to her outlandish claim, she is no sheep, she may be weak for demon but she's still leagues ahead of most humans.
“Come on I'm sure the others have a nice fire going at the campsite” you say as you pick up the pace causing Avy to nearly fall over as you out stride her.
“Hey, no fair, I was leaning on you” she shouts as she races to catch back up to you and you intern start to jog away
It doesn't take much longer to reach the campsite at your increased pace.
Your Contract with Avy may not grant you as much power or magic as most of the Demi-Demon blessings you've heard about from your Mom, but the near unlimited stamina and fast healing sure comes in handy when you need to make a break for it or find yourself in a tough situation, although the effect potency is entirely based on your proximity to Avy. She claims it's due to her powers not being fully developed and that eventually that restriction will be removed , but personally from the stories you've heard about how clingy her Father The Stranger was you aren't to sure that will ever happen.
You are greeted by Yuki who's on watch and tending the small fire.
Avy rushes past you and gets close enough to the fire that you are slightly worried she might catch fire.
“You made it back I see,”Yuki welcomes you in a calm tone
“Did you find out anything useful about what the Demons are upto building that outpost?” she asks before placing a small piece of wood on the fire
You sit down next to Avy and try to warm yourself up and start telling Yuki about what Avy learned in town.
