  1. the sun is always due south at solar noon (anytime between 11:45 a.m and 12:15 p.m in winter in England and anytime between 12:45 p.m and 1:15 p.m in summer in England), opposite to south is North, quarter of a full circle right of north is east (halfway back to the sun to the right) and halfway backwards/anti-clockwise/counter-clockwise from north towards the sun is west.
