  1. American history X-Film review
  2. This film follows two brothers from Los Angeles as they are drawn into a neo-Nazi skinhead gang and how one of them decides to free himself. The movie was released on 30 October 1998, written by David McKenna and directed by Tony Kaye, film and music video director. He was born on November 23, 1998, and this movie is believed to be the best of his works.
  3. The film stars Edward Norton as Derek, a young bright boy who become the leader of a neo-Nazi gang. One night 3 black kids attempt to steal his car but he shoots two of them dead, getting him convicted of murder and sent in prison for three years. His brother, Danny, idolizes him and follows his steps becoming a part of the skinhead gang. While imprisoned Derek realizes that all the principles he was guiding his live on, were wrong and decides to go on a new path. Meanwhile Danny hangs out with the neo-Nazi gang and goes to the same school as his brother, being under the moral protection of a black history teacher, who supplies the moral center of the film. After released from prison Derek goes back to his family and tries to change Danny’s life along with his.
  4. Derek’s racism started to take shape while under the influence of his father, which eventually got killed by a black man. This made him seek revenge and join a neo-Nazi gang where under the guidance of Cameron Alexander he becomes the leader.
  5. Danny, after leaving the skinheads convinced by his brother, gets killed by a black student from his school.
  6. The scariest and most convincing scenes are the ones in which we see the skinheads bonding. They're led by Derek's brilliant speech and fueled by the need to belong to a movement greater than themselves. The movie uses black and white to show the recent past and color to show the 24 hour period after Derek’s release.
  7. The thing that I liked the most was the conclusion with which the movie ends. The quote, by Abraham Lincoln, explains how we must not hate each other, and live in harmony by loving the one next to us whatever the race he belongs to.
  8. All in all, American history X is a good and powerful movie; the best I’ve seen that deals with racism.
