- >Lose track of time while I'm browsing.
- >Hear Tsubaki before I see her.
- >"Anon, it's ready come get it while it's hot."
- >Look up from my laptop to see Tsubaki poking her head through the 'window' that was embedded in the wall between the living and main room.
- >"Did you hear me Anon? Dinner's ready."
- >"Yeah coming."
- >Close up laptop and join Tsubaki at the table.
- >Tsubaki is already sitting down by the time I get over there.
- >She's in the seat against the wall leaving the only chair open the one facing the window sitting behind the table.
- >"You took my favorite seat Tsuba."
- >"I think you can go one night without staring at the door Anon."
- >Chuckle a bit at Tsubaki's retort and take my seat.
- >Get a bit curious at what I'm about to eat.
- >Taking a good look I see vegetables and chunks of white stuff floating in the yellow broth.
- >"Hey Tsubaki, what's the white chunks in this?"
- >"Tofu." She says before helping herself to more.
- >"Uhh...I've had tofu before, tasted awful." I said prodding one of the chunks with my fork.
- >"The person who cooked it then did a terrible job then and didn't let it absorb any flavor."
- >End up staring at the soup in hesitation before taking a taste.
- >"It's salty..."
- >"You don't have to eat it if you don't like it Anon".
- >"It's not that, it just tastes really salty".
- >"It's how it was prepared I like it salty".
- >shrug and continue eating despite the salty taste.
- >As we continue to eat I notice Tsubaki seems to be troubled by something.
- >Seems to be taking glances at me sometimes frowning before going back to eating.
- >She seems to be radiating uneasiness the entire time.
- >Before I can ask whats wrong Tsubaki breaks the silence.
- >"Anon..."
- >"hmm?"
- >"I want to thank you for taking me in and I thought of a way to repay you." She says with a bit of a stutter.
- >"If the next words out of your mouth involve 'with my body' I'm going to laugh."
- >Tsubaki let out a deep exhale and seemed to be more gauging my reaction to what came next.
- >"As you know Anon, I am...WAS, the owner of a trading company."
- >"Whats in the past is in the past, but what're you getting at?"
- >"What you probably don't know is we also handled investments, a field I'm an expert in."
- >"You've lost me," I said slumping my shoulders.
- >"Anon I'd like to help with the finances in the house, make some of the money you make work for you so you can live more comfortably".
- >Her words set off something off in my head.
- >"How much is this going to cost me?" I ask in defeat.
- >Tsubaki's expression shifted, bracing for my reaction.
- >"Two thousand dollars..."
- >Jump up at Tsubaki's request, almost fall out of my chair in the process.
- >"TWO THOUSAND?! Tsuba I trust you and all, but you're asking me to take a massive leap of faith here with practically all I have left in my checking."
- >Tsubaki just looks at me with more determination than defeat in her eyes.
- >"Anon I know it's a lot of money I'm asking for, but this will help. I already know of some ventures that will return profit easily within the first week. With a thousand dollars we'll easily see returns."
- >Brow furrows as my min tries to process what she said.
- >"Hold up you said ONE thousand yet asking for TWO, where's the other one going?"
- >"Savings, bonds and some stock in a company I know for a fact will see us a return".
- >"Will this REALLY work?"
- >Tsubaki just takes my hand in hers and gives it a squeeze.
- >"I want to help you Anon, you've been nice enough to let me live here and have asked really nothing in return".
- >"Technically Tsu, asking you to help with chores is something".
- >"Chores are nothing Anon, they don't help with the utility or food bills."
- >"Why not just get a job then Tsuba?"
- >"I lost a lot of my paper work when my assets were liquidated, I'm probably living here illegally".
- >"If that's the case how are you going to do all this?"
- >"W-Well I wanted to, with your permission, trade under your name and with your credentials".
- >"Right, so aside from posing as me and in a round about way committing identity theft, anything else you need?" I asked with a smug grin.
- >"...I'd like access to your desktop computer Anon, you seem to take great pride in it and it seems strong so I'd like it so I can keep everything running with minimal issues".
- >Mulled my options over carefully, Tsubaki's offer was great but a huge risk.
- >Come to a conclusion one drawn out yawn later.
- >"Alright, but I'm just giving you straight access to my account, can't be assed to make a separate account and get that set up. I'll hand over the password and you can do your thing as I get my other shit you need".
- >Get this warm smile from Tsubaki as she squeezes my hand harder.
- >"Thank you Anon! You won't regret this! I promise you."
- >"Just two things, the first one being that if you find any thing illegal; such as pirated movies, games or shows, don't go reporting me."
- >"Anon, your white collar crimes are safe with me".
- >Nodding I moved onto my next point.
- >"Two: We'll be eating light for the next few weeks, maybe months just a heads up."
- >"Anon, I can live with that."
- >Dinner ends a bit after the deal does, end up helping Tsubaki with clean up.
- >Rest of the night goes on uneventful.
- >End it like every other, crashing on the couch and going ot bed after saying good night to Tsubaki.
