  1. >Lose track of time while I'm browsing.
  2. >Hear Tsubaki before I see her.
  3. >"Anon, it's ready come get it while it's hot."
  4. >Look up from my laptop to see Tsubaki poking her head through the 'window' that was embedded in the wall between the living and main room.
  5. >"Did you hear me Anon? Dinner's ready."
  6. >"Yeah coming."
  7. >Close up laptop and join Tsubaki at the table.
  8. >Tsubaki is already sitting down by the time I get over there.
  9. >She's in the seat against the wall leaving the only chair open the one facing the window sitting behind the table.
  10. >"You took my favorite seat Tsuba."
  11. >"I think you can go one night without staring at the door Anon."
  12. >Chuckle a bit at Tsubaki's retort and take my seat.
  13. >Get a bit curious at what I'm about to eat.
  14. >Taking a good look I see vegetables and chunks of white stuff floating in the yellow broth.
  15. >"Hey Tsubaki, what's the white chunks in this?"
  16. >"Tofu." She says before helping herself to more.
  17. >"Uhh...I've had tofu before, tasted awful." I said prodding one of the chunks with my fork.
  18. >"The person who cooked it then did a terrible job then and didn't let it absorb any flavor."
  19. >End up staring at the soup in hesitation before taking a taste.
  20. >"It's salty..."
  21. >"You don't have to eat it if you don't like it Anon".
  22. >"It's not that, it just tastes really salty".
  23. >"It's how it was prepared I like it salty".
  24. >shrug and continue eating despite the salty taste.
  25. >As we continue to eat I notice Tsubaki seems to be troubled by something.
  26. >Seems to be taking glances at me sometimes frowning before going back to eating.
  27. >She seems to be radiating uneasiness the entire time.
  28. >Before I can ask whats wrong Tsubaki breaks the silence.
  29. >"Anon..."
  30. >"hmm?"
  31. >"I want to thank you for taking me in and I thought of a way to repay you." She says with a bit of a stutter.
  32. >"If the next words out of your mouth involve 'with my body' I'm going to laugh."
  33. >Tsubaki let out a deep exhale and seemed to be more gauging my reaction to what came next.
  34. >"As you know Anon, I am...WAS, the owner of a trading company."
  35. >"Whats in the past is in the past, but what're you getting at?"
  36. >"What you probably don't know is we also handled investments, a field I'm an expert in."
  37. >"You've lost me," I said slumping my shoulders.
  38. >"Anon I'd like to help with the finances in the house, make some of the money you make work for you so you can live more comfortably".
  39. >Her words set off something off in my head.
  40. >"How much is this going to cost me?" I ask in defeat.
  41. >Tsubaki's expression shifted, bracing for my reaction.
  42. >"Two thousand dollars..."
  43. >Jump up at Tsubaki's request, almost fall out of my chair in the process.
  44. >"TWO THOUSAND?! Tsuba I trust you and all, but you're asking me to take a massive leap of faith here with practically all I have left in my checking."
  45. >Tsubaki just looks at me with more determination than defeat in her eyes.
  46. >"Anon I know it's a lot of money I'm asking for, but this will help. I already know of some ventures that will return profit easily within the first week. With a thousand dollars we'll easily see returns."
  47. >Brow furrows as my min tries to process what she said.
  48. >"Hold up you said ONE thousand yet asking for TWO, where's the other one going?"
  49. >"Savings, bonds and some stock in a company I know for a fact will see us a return".
  50. >"Will this REALLY work?"
  51. >Tsubaki just takes my hand in hers and gives it a squeeze.
  52. >"I want to help you Anon, you've been nice enough to let me live here and have asked really nothing in return".
  53. >"Technically Tsu, asking you to help with chores is something".
  54. >"Chores are nothing Anon, they don't help with the utility or food bills."
  55. >"Why not just get a job then Tsuba?"
  56. >"I lost a lot of my paper work when my assets were liquidated, I'm probably living here illegally".
  57. >"If that's the case how are you going to do all this?"
  58. >"W-Well I wanted to, with your permission, trade under your name and with your credentials".
  59. >"Right, so aside from posing as me and in a round about way committing identity theft, anything else you need?" I asked with a smug grin.
  60. >"...I'd like access to your desktop computer Anon, you seem to take great pride in it and it seems strong so I'd like it so I can keep everything running with minimal issues".
  61. >Mulled my options over carefully, Tsubaki's offer was great but a huge risk.
  62. >Come to a conclusion one drawn out yawn later.
  63. >"Alright, but I'm just giving you straight access to my account, can't be assed to make a separate account and get that set up. I'll hand over the password and you can do your thing as I get my other shit you need".
  64. >Get this warm smile from Tsubaki as she squeezes my hand harder.
  65. >"Thank you Anon! You won't regret this! I promise you."
  66. >"Just two things, the first one being that if you find any thing illegal; such as pirated movies, games or shows, don't go reporting me."
  67. >"Anon, your white collar crimes are safe with me".
  68. >Nodding I moved onto my next point.
  69. >"Two: We'll be eating light for the next few weeks, maybe months just a heads up."
  70. >"Anon, I can live with that."
  71. >Dinner ends a bit after the deal does, end up helping Tsubaki with clean up.
  72. >Rest of the night goes on uneventful.
  73. >End it like every other, crashing on the couch and going ot bed after saying good night to Tsubaki.
