Matthew's backstory

(The beginning)
Heir of the clan of Dragon users, Matthew Chaise was cursed with a link duel monster Shi En. A Samurai lord with four other beings of his past taking form to be his destined duel spirits. Their bond was so strong that Shi En, and Matthew had fused. Almost right away, Matthew didn't want to use dragons. It wasn't his path, but his father had another story. Being the heir of the dragon clan, he was to use a Dragon Deck. It was 'disrespectful to the past members who had died' his father said. Matthew ended up being kicked out at age 10, their age of adulthood. He would not bend to what he thought, and wanted. The title went to his little sister, a Galaxy-Eyes user. It wasn't by her choice as she wasn't a duelist, rather an artist, but her will wasn't as strong as her brothers and caved into the pressure of their family. It took a year to get on his feet, but the young warrior did. He met friends along the way who helped him. Their bonds were what helped through it all, and he could never forget them.

(War Arc)
Around 12 years old he was drafted into a school for 'gifted' duelist. People who had abilities gifted from their duel spirits. It wasn't long before he gained five friends. Each day he spent time with them, and their bonds became tight along with their teamwork. The school went into war against a force unknown to this world, and they won....with loses. People died to the games of darkness, and others survived. It did, or die in those duels, and that was the first taste of war for those kids. When the war had been won their small team stood on stop. A Plant, A Boxer, A Toy-maker, a Hero, A Grave-keeper, and A Samurai. A team no one would think would work, but won them the war. Sometime after the school, and the group split up. Some were hurt by their friends having died...somewhere scarred for life..some couldn't handle it..and one, the samurai, tried his best to keep it in the past.


(Rebirth Arc)
1 year of traveling along the world, trying to find his purpose....he had lost his powers, and his body had split. See the other world had taken back spirits with them, but the spirit too tightly bonded to his soul. The result had been a de-fusion of the two leaving Matthew's, and Shi En's soul to be linked, but their memories to be torn between the two. In the end it left a new being. Shawn Dawnhandle. Shawn's memories were so jumbled to the point he had blocked out the hurt, and the pain while leaving the happy, and anger within the clips of both within his head. His mind thought his sister had been stolen from his family, a normal family with normal schools and normal friends. He thought his life was normal, but the memories of forgotten scarring was too deep in both brains. The memory of being kicked out of his clan was still there, but rather his parents sending him to a mental hospital to help with seeing 'duel spirits'. His friends he made after his clan had kicked him out had been replaced with best buds in a normal school, and they were the people who gave him his deck,A Duel Disk, and a love for dueling, but those came from his father before he was a 'failure'. The bravery from the war formed into a Hero Complex. Even his body had changed. Silky hair had turned into black spikes, Tan skin had turned pale, yellow eyes turned blue, muscles had shrank down to barely anything. He might as well had been another person. The only thing that hadn't changed was the love for music, and preforming.


Nearly 4 years from the birth of Shawn Dawnhandle events had started to repeat their selves. He had been drafted into a tournament after showing skills that might be good enough for a school ran by Kaiba. He had breezed through the entire tournament, it was nothing for his Samurais. In the end, he had won the right to take the test for the school.... His dueling skills were on a RA level, but his book smarts were lacking. That hurt his grade more then anything, and at the end he had been placed in the Slifer Dorm purely on his written test grade. The day he had moved in, he noticed allot of the people that were in the Slifer were children around 12-15. It was kinda weird that a 18 year old was in this place, but he brushed that off. This was the only way to find his lost sister this way. Being around 2 months there, he noticed he was the Strongest Duelist in the Slifer dorm. Hell, he began the big brother of the boy side, and their leader gaining the the of the Leader of Red. He had forced the schools hands to work on the beaten down Slifer dorms. They were the worst out of the other dorms, and he wasn't gonna stand for that. He even went to Kaiba himself, beating his guards in the process, and ended up somehow getting him to fix it up. Around another month a group of new Slifers came in, and finally some people his age came in. A lady with red hair, and a teen who loved stars. The woman was weird in his eyes, but they got along about like rivals in combat. They're friendly to each other, but the moment they hit the dueling ground...they were hateful. Her name was Andraste. The teen had loved stars had quickly became his best friend, and possible little brother as they connected pretty well. He wasn't the best at dueling, but Shawn was trying to help with that. His name was Yuka. The three helped showing the Slifers weren't weak....then came along someone from the highest dorm, Obelisk. A blond woman who loved to play with fire. Shawn didn't know how to feel about her. Literally. His heart would start to beat quickly at the sight of her, but she hit him when he screwed up which pissed him off...also the fact he couldn't beat her didn't help the fact. While Matthew has had a crush at one point, Shawn never had along with no memory of what to do. So he tried his best to be normal around her, not sure what to say. That normally ended up with him getting hit, but he enjoyed himself with her. At some point he was going to ask her out...but not knowing how to do it, he literally ended up making a bet he knew he would lose just to go out to get some food with her. She was pushing him to become better at dueling,but also..become closer to being Matthew once more. Her name was Yuukari. One night with being with her something sparked in the back of his head. It's possible that HER spirits was pulling his to come forth, but it was allot more to that then they both knew. The results was his body becoming controlled by Shien, one of the parts of Shi En. He didn't know he had duel spirits till now. Her spirits scared him back, but Shawn's mind had changed with memories creeping into his mind making him confused. His personalty had changed to a small degree. He started treat his dorm,and most the other dorms like it's a war between them due to feelings of the need to protect his ground. His bond with Yuka, Andraste, and Yuukari had strained, but also tightened in some ways. Unknown to Shawn..he ran into the Plant, and Boxer in the school. He hadn't known it was them, nor did they know about him. He looked far to different. He also made a few friends along the way. Miz, Zoey and Eve. Both in Slifer. Miz was a country boy, polite...pretty much the complete opposite from Shawn. Zoey, and Shawn butted heads, but were pretty good friends.

(-Filler-  Barian arc: Act 1)
Lady luck has never been on Matthew/Shawn's side. Neither has Fate, but the way they play with him is even more twisted. Shawn Dawnhandle, or Matthew Chaise was the reincarnation of a past king. A king of a twisted world made into human, and was fated to destroy the Astral plane. Yes, he was the incarnation of the Barian King, but only one person truly knew this. The Barian's had slowly started to invade sometime along the time of when a Key Holder opened it's gate letting Numbers cards that had been printed take in the souls of their card. Shawn had gained the card Number 39: Utopia. Yuka had already had Number 102: Star Seraph Sentry as that was his spirit monster. Yuukari held Number 104: Masquerade. Miz, Zoey, and Eve didn't hold a number! Yuukari had been one of the Barians at one point, but in the end had fought it off, and sent Vector back into the world of Barians. Yuka was the first to fall to the Barian Curse. Yuka was the True King of the Barian world, Nash, but he refused the power. The power though was too much to hold. In the middle of the night Yuka had split from the his Barian personalty, a feat the past incarnations could not do. Despite this, the Barian body took a twisted form of Yuka and started to start Chaos along the school with his Chaos Number 101:Silent Honor Dark! Shawn was next. While Number 39 was the only pure number, his barian side had turned it into a Chaos number! Chaos Number 39: Utopia Ray V. His way to turn into a Barian was much different. He had the mental power to seal away his number within his mind to find out what is going on, but it called to him in duels. Everything was telling him to use his card, and go beyond it. The thing that had pushed him over the edge was a Shadow game between Shawn, and Yuka's Barian energy. It was really a fight, not a duel. Something in the back of Shawn's head knew how to use a Shadow game, and out smart the Barian. His way of a Barian became too much to bear, and he ended up falling into the God of the Barian's grasp. He deemed him worthy of becoming a king, but he'd need to die for it. The god had planted a fake memory of getting a call from his sisters capture, and he went to it...in the end, a build fell onto him killing him instantly. Within death, Shawn was reborn into his Barian body. Unlike Yukas though, he had two Barian souls in his body from it. He was the incarnation of the holder of  Chaos Number 107: Neo Galaxy-eyes Tachyon Dragon, Mizar. The god put the lost soul of Vector, the true holder of 104 into his body to start the push. Shawn had came back with a Galaxy-eyes Deck, and ended up destroying Yuka's Barian energy, and took it into his own before Yuka, and a friend of his took down what the newly born Barian did in one go.

(-Filler- Barian Arc: act 2)
Shawn had three souls within his body now. Within that time frame Shawn had to come to terms that he was a Barian....so he tried going back to his old life. It was harder then the last time. The lock between his memories of Matthew, and Shawn was starting to blend more,and more. It was like he was three people in his head now. Shawn, Matthew, and Vector. Shawn was the dominate persona, but the other two had hold on the personality. They both were too strong to hold down. Over a few weeks, Shawn had seen that...he subconsciously surrounded himself with incarnations. Eve is the second in line for Nash after Yuka. Miz was the holder of 103, Yuukari was 104.... some weird girl that came up to him was number 105 who had came up to him screaming about he was her king. A few people who he had to take out to get the rest of the numbers. He had C101,C102, C107 now along with the connection to 104 who he had fallen in love with! Yes, by that time he had fallen in love with Yuukari even if he thought she didn't feel the same. The barian's incarnations started to form over time, and in the end Shawn had gotten a small group of them working under him. Their plan was to rebuild the Barian world with the numbers. They needed to gather them all, and start from there. At that point they didn't know of the god yet, Don thousand, but Shawn had seen him more then once.  Yuukari was part of the team of course, he had a soft spot for her no matter what.... and that ended up turning to jealousy over her getting a little too close to Eve for his liking, but at the same time showing signs that she cared about him as well....girls are still a mystery even as a 1000 year old incarnation of a King!

(-Filler- Barain Arc: Act 3)
A simple day turned into a nightmare was Shawns description to this day. His heart breaking, and stopping as he heard one sentence from Eve. 'Yuukari died in her sleep from Cancer' She...never told him about her having it! Maybe she didn't want him to worry, or threat her different, but why wasn't she trying to get it treated was his only question. He was wondering how her number got near him, he just figured she came in last night, and he didn't remember. That happened allot.... but that? They made plans to work on a project he had. That was the also the day Shawn had died, and Don thousand took hold, feeding him lies! His personality turned into cold man wearing a happy, and flirty mask. He stopped hiding the fact he was Barian...and ended up losing allot of people who was his friends, but he didn't care. He wanted this world to end so he can recreate it with her by his side! He would bring her lost soul to the world once more! His path of peace had turned into one of war once more for the second time in his life, but he wasn't on the side of good. He had turned to the darker path. The path that held trouble, and destruction. It was only a matter of time for it. He began to work harder to get the numbers, and even went as far as to take his Barian member's souls from them as they wanted to stop, wiping their memory, leaving them to be normal humans once again. The ending arc was coming, and people knew it. They started to work against the Barian King, and last member of his group. The woman with 105. It took a week, but he had enough to open the portal...but one more number was needed. Number 105... Apon the mountain of the schools island... he drove his hand through her heart, taking her power with him as she questioned his goals knowing he wasn't her King, but Don Thousand. Shawn wouldn't have killed their members. He thought he was their king, and respected them, but also kept them in their place when needed. Don Thousand started to open the portal, but one number was missing. Number 39: Utopia. The God knew... Shawn wasn't dead within this husk of the body. He was fighting to stay here. What he didn't know when he went into Shawn's Mindscape was it was Matthew! The man who had been waiting to be freed from his prison. Matthew stood there, his arms crossed with a disk on his arm ready to take this god down. Tales said there has been Samurais that have taken on Gods, and Demons in battle...but this was different. This man had taken his husks friends away, and he had all of Shawns memories fused with his own once more. The two fought in a barian battle, winner takes the body. With experience coming back from the War, and Shawn's.... Matthews skills RUINED Don Thousand, and took control of his body. He had taken Vectors memories as well...and in the end, he knew what he had to do. His life force went into the portal closing it, and the numbers back once more.

Matthew had expected allot of things in the astral planes. The Barians were like demons, and they were the angels so.... it was expected for it to look all white, but what he didn't expect was to meet the one he..no.. Shawn loved, Yuukari standing in all white version of her clothes with a annoyed expression when he first opened his eyes. Her first words made him laugh on the ground. 'Took you long enough dumbass. You made me wait for you'. The two exchanged in a conversion for a period of time unknown to him. He had learned she was a Astralian.. Funny, he had fallen in love with his enemy. Sooner or later he wanted to return but something crazy happened, he was casted out of the code with a bright flash leaving him to fall.
