The Second Experiment

[14:05] Bruno quickly led the girl to the very same workshop where the first experiment had been conducted. A small gesture is made, inviting Nelly to take a seat upon the table she once had fallen from at the limits of her flesh. The Aertas spoke up, sharing his thoughts in an honest manner.

"I believe we can make progress even with the Commander's restrictions. However fast it comes will be determined by your own willingness to endure more."

Reaching into his cloak Bruno pulled out a small bracelet made with copper and lined all across with strands of what seems to be orchilacum, all leading to a blue crystal. It is offered to Nelly.

"We will see if with the proper adjustment a piece of equipment can use one's own affnity and coursing mana to produce a substance without the user's need to focus upon it.

.. Of course, there is a conclusive and interesting bit of study possible here."

[14:09] Nelly took it and held it in her hand curiously looking it over.

"I see. I'm assuming I put this on then channel mana, or will it happen on it's on?"

She looked at Bruno not even hestitating ready to put the bracelet on. Nelly could at least trust he wasn't going to severally injure her now. Even if it did hurt tremendously.

[14:15] "Not quite." He said, reaching for her hand after the bracelet was put on, pulling it (and her) closer in the process. His free hand was placed atop the copper surface and a more focused Aertas could be seen concentrating on the task at hand. The Orchilacum linings started glowing with a violent light blue, shifting and adjusting themselves with the girl's own circuitry - more or less. He had no way to truly determine where her circuits were, after all. Not without extensive testing. A small buzz, a pinch, an itch could be felt on her wrist underneath the bracelet as it seemed to adjust itself, tightening up around her skin.

"With the natural flow of mana the crystal should produce water on its own. It is important you do not focus in any shape or form upon it. I wish to see if, without even trying, I'll be able to enhance those with less natural parts in their body."

A pause followed, blue eyes laid upon hers.

"Of course if you are willing to subject yourself to pain we can test how the hastened flow of mana through one's body will work with this creation. I hardly believe the Commander or your friends would approve of such, however, judging by what you've told me."

[14:24] As she was pulled closer to him she gave a blank stare to him briefly before looking down at the itch.

Her circuitry would be touched by the device. Now tight around her wrist she listened closely to what he wanted to say.

So she didn't have to think about it at all? She assumed it attacked as a natural outlet for her mana circuits somehow and the crystal was most likely suppose to form that magic in some way.

Nelly had a little worry that she was going to break the bracelet, because of the natural water mana she took into her circuitry, Though this just meant she would wait a bit and see how well it functioned before she agreed to hastening her mana flow.

"For now let's just see if it works." As his eyes looked at her she leaned back on one hand lightly not saying anything and holding out her arm with the bracelet.

Her mana was very pure and had the influence of some water spirits imbedded in it. It had a very natural flow through her body, but seemed to flow with her emotions. Bending to her naturally like what in the world does to the surfaces it runs across. At the moment she was relaxed with a bit of tension being pushed down. The surface of her mana was calm, but underneath it had a steady flow. Recently it had increased quiet a bit in power, so however this would work on the creation would be seen.

[14:31] Bruno's focus remained upon his creation while Nelly's own quiet support of his craft was being shown by her willingness to indulge him in his experiments. His hands kept on holding upon hers, awaiting some sort of shift or change. Copper was being used due to being cheap, for one, and a proper conductor despite its less reliable durability.

This was but a proof of concept, after all.

For quite some time nothing seemed to occur, though with enough of her mana flowing by and with her natural talents with water the crystal sat atop the bracelet would begin producing water as if it had been hers. Capitlizing on the body's imperfection when it came to regulating its flow, Bruno seemed to have stumbled upon more proof of his theories while water dripped down from Nelly's wrist.

A long stare is made and a small smile eventually shows itself, a rare sight coming from the Aertas.

".. Good. Do you wish to go to the next level?"He asked, yearning for her approval.

[14:35] Nelly smiled lightly as she watched the water drip from the bracelet. It was interesting. She had a comment, but saved it for after what was to come next. She saw no harm in continuing.

"Sure, how hard do you want me to channel my magic?" Only asking what was necessary as Bruno held her hands. She looked at him. It would be good to see what all this could do.

Personally she did wonder what would happen if she crash a full brutal wave of mana onto the bracelet. seemed Bruno's yearning was feeding hers a bit.

[14:43] When the question came Bruno leaned in closer to her, his cheek brushing up against hers unintentionally before he whispered to her ear.

"Let me handle how hard we'll proceed. Empty your mind and let your body react."

With that command uttered the Aertas' right hand sat itself atop her thigh, suddenly channeling a mass of electricity all throughout her body - a reminder of what had previously occured yet in a much less painful manner. By all means was it still torturous pain and overwhelming for a situation within one's own city and amongst allies, but it remained within the realms of possibility during a battle.

Bruno's simple explanation of how the bracelet worked would further be proved in that moment so long as Nelly endured the pain. The body's response to an intense situation was to produce adrenaline. The flow of such increased the flow of mana through one's body, resulting in what the Aertas hoped to be a greater output of water.

Perhaps a bit uncontrolled.

The level of intensity would even begin shifting up and down should Bruno's precious willing subject endure every bit of pain he brought upon her.

[14:54] A shiver was sent down her spin as their cheeks brushed against each other. She wasn't use to phsycical contact let alone anyone touching her face. She let out a small exhale keeping herself composed as he whispered into her ears.

Then a hand touch her thigh and before she could process it and most likely start getting mad she had an amount of electricity shot into her. She felt the pain start coursing through her body as she twitched and her muscles tensed up. She couldn't think only deal with the pain for now. Her mana became more and more agitated. Looking into Bruno's eyes a fierce look would be given to him. A touch of anger and rage in it though she would defy screaming out, but it just increased the adrenaline in her body and her circuits started to rage with her emotions.

After last time she had doubled her own durability for pain. Though she felt her heart beat faster and fast as she grit her teeth. As the intensity would be shifted up and down it would become even harder to brace herself against the current. Her body started to let off a mist.

She would let out screams whenever an unexpected large jump in charge happened. Feeling her leg heating up from the lightning being pushed into it her hands gripped tightly as she winced and screamed in pain.

The longer this went on the worse her reactions would get. Her will and drive were really strong, but not unlimited. Though always willing as normal. She could only really grit this out for so long. The serpent like shocks ran through her body in various ways leaving painful trails of past shocks under her skin and in her muscles. "Gnnnnn"

[15:02] Bruno's own control over how much suffering Nelly had to go through would be far from gentle, yet the results it would yield were unlike any other. The more her body was pushed, the more water was being produced. It was.. expected, really. Wasted energy came in greater amounts when under a lot of stress. This was merely a proof of such.

As time went on the copper surface of the bracelet had the same issue as the steel from their previous experiment, quickly heating up and allowing for some steam to be produced while Nelly groaned in obvious pain. A small, overly curious final push was made before Bruno would stop it all, channeling as much voltage as he could within her frame for but a second before cutting it all off, resulting in, as one would expect, a torrent of water being produced and wetting both him and her in the process. A messy experiment to say the least.

A few breath were taken and his hands shifted away from her. A step back is made and from under a desk a large bucket of cold water is brought up and sat on the table right by her side.

The Aertas may have been a monster in some aspect but it was clear he cared about who Nelly was, preparing some sort of pain relief for what he knew she would have to suffer through.

Even if she hadn't been ready for it.

[15:18] As the bracelet start to burn into her skin the reaction from it would be greater this time. Her body and mana acted violently. The air got sucked dry of water as it joined large pools she was giving off.

Nelly would keep on daring to stare down Bruno as the experiment went on. As he pushed as much current into her as he possibly could she howled out in pain and her mana and emotions flared form a moment. All the water that had formed together in the air spun faster and faster creating blades. It was all her mana instinctively reacting to her and possibly a bit of the small almost invisible in power water spirits in the waters that had gathered naturally becoming angry.

After all Nelly had been listening to them a lot recently and would have gotten at least decently close to them. The bracelet started to brand her skin as this happened. Her head twitching wildly as she still tried to look forward, but to little avail.

As the current was cut off the water blades behind Bruno at the time would stop spinning angerly and slowly dissolve into the air. Nelly had been in tremendous pain. The core of her being had received a large shock from Bruno and a hand shaped mark was left on her leg as he removed his hand. Though her healing waters would pool into the area as he did getting to work.

Nelly felt her heart tick oddly for a moment a residual from the electricity for sure, but nothing permanent... this time. As he produced the bucket she plunged her hand into it cooling the metal with a threatening hiss. She was shaking lightly a few tears streamed down her face as she took a few stuttering breaths. The water started to glow more and a bit and it snaked up her arm creating a tendril that reached towards her leg wrapping around the spot Bruno's hand had been. She was soaked in the explosive torrent of water that had been produced by the ring. It was welcomed at least. Even though it wasn't natural like what was in the bucket she would still appericate it rather then feeling her skin burning.

After a long break of Nelly just looking into the bucket she spoke up unmoving.

"I.... was this helpful to you?" She asked with an almost unnoticeable amount of anger in her voice. Though she held it back properly enough. It was a genuine question still.

[15:26] Bruno could feel that the girl's ability to withstand all the punishment he could inflict her was growing weaker and weaker. Either that or she seemed to be growing more respectful of her person with time - not wanting to risk almost everything merely in the name of progress. In a situation like this one the Aertas had no choice but to be more forward with his answer.

"Of course." He said, stepping closer once more and slowly raising his right hand up to her face, cupping her cheek softly. A gentle gesture after all of that pain may feel alien, though he hoped it would magnify its existence in contrast to the pain. A softer tone was adopted, too.

"The pain you have suffered is one no other will have to suffer in battle to test if my creations will be efficient or not. I am aware of how much you have suffered and for that? You have cemented your place within the confines of my heart." His thumb slowly traced a line along her cheek.

"You will be the first of humanity's evolution, Nelly. I can't forget your sacrifices."

[15:38] Nelly was focusing on the water up until Bruno cupped cheek. She had a confused look on her face. Embarassment hadn't set in yet. It was strange to see Bruno being so nice to her.

Her breathing nearly halted as he talked. Thoughts raced through her head. Why is he touching my face? Why does he sound nicer? What's going on? Though her face would look blankly on.

As he said she cemented a place within the confines of his heart she blinked unable to process it fully, but her insecurity with others leaving her made her smile. Her brain really heard more than anything else that it could trust Bruno and that he didn't want to abandon her like others had in her childhood. Like her- She cut off her thoughts and removed the little smile from her face.

Though it'de return a bit as he called her humanity's first evolution. Though this smile was much more bold and confident. It said. Good. I'm glad that I'll be able to progress to my goals faster. She took a deep breath.

"I'm glad that I could take the forefront of this then. That's a good contribution I can make. I... good. I want to achieve my goals as soon as possible. I'm always willing to help more Bruno." She didn't dare reach for his hand, but she did turn her head bit looking back down to the bucket of water, which was now but empty as it's contents were wrapped around her. Clearly she was deep in closing out her emotions. Something she did often as she stared coldly onward toward the bucket. "Is that all you need from me?"

[15:44] His hand slowly but surely moved down from her cheek, tracing its way down her arm and towards the bracelet that was for the most part ruined. A cost with every experiment. His tone remained soft - verbally pulling the willing test subject into a relationship of trust.

"As far as the experiment goes, yes. You've done well and I believe we'll make even more progress next time."

Hands worked to unclasp the bracelet from her wrist, letting it properly 'breathe' before his blue eyes once more sat upon hers, lingering for a moment.

"This experiment is accomplished." He finally declared.

Yet, his grasp was not draw away from her and a few more words would inevitably find their way out from his lips.

"Do you believe there is something else I may need from you?"
