Commonwealth woman

skin of fairest winter snow

hair of bright Fall leaves

Rough, abrasive. Some find uncomfortable.

A lifetime of hard living,
A lifetime of neglect.

Signs of work, signs of hardship. Signs of dedication, signs of perseverance.

A hard exterior, a painful interior.
Conditioned by life, conditioned natural responses.

Covering up pain, covering up wounds.
Can cover, can soften. Can never heal.

Fire, passion, warning, hunger.
Flowing through veins, coloring the sky at sunset.
Unseen, provides life. Seen, a sign of death.
Spurs bulls in the arena of Spain, halts traffic all over the world.

But more than all, is hers.

Desire, admiration, excitement, fascination.
Flows in the wind, colors my cheeks.
Seen, a glance becomes a stare. Unseen, a fond memory.
Stands out in the crowd, stops my heart at a glance.
Tucked behind an ear, hidden by a hat.

But more than all, is hers.
