- just curious, have you seen that tweet from the "leader" of BLM toronto?
- I have.
- i honestly think that should disqualify them from leading the pride parade
- now their movement isn't about pride, its supremacy
- It was a horrible choice of words for her to express her emotions.
- if she's a leader, she needs to watch what she says
- on an unrelated note: the triple hit mix popcorn (caramel corn, chocolate, and mini pretzels) is on point
- She really does. I agree. I will never understand the anger and emotions of experiencing anti-black racism and will never claim to know that, but, words that express the death of others is just not acceptable.
- I get something like from Bulk Barn.
- Nomnom
- i got it there tongue emoticon
- Good girl.
- It's so good.
- i was there for bits & bites
- I also really like their peanut butter drizzled popcorn
- ($1.15/100g!)
- but i ended up gett those two, chocolate covered coffee beans, and some matcha powder
- Love those coffee beans as well
- but yeah
- TBH, i never thought BLM fit in with the message of Pride
- there are parallels in the struggles, but historically, and presently, black people are some of the more prominent homophobic oppressors
- And that's why we need BLMTO. Because of generalizations like the one you just made tongue emoticon
- I think the choice of having BLMTO with Pride is to show solidarity among groups who tend to experience widespread discrimination/
- im not saying all black people are bad, and im not saying that black people are not persecuted
- carding is still a thing and im strongly against it
- im just worried about some of the more...vocal members of BLM and how they might treat the more flamboyant people in the parade
- can you see that viewpoint?
- No, I think it's racist.
- Like that is blatantly racist.
- LOL
- "Because black people tend to be more homophobic than others, I am scared they will discriminate against gay people during pride"
- im basing it purely on statistics
- its anecdotal, but am i not allowed to have opinions based on my experiences?
- Race is a social construction, there is no biological predisposition that makes black people more homophobic than any other race/culture
- And based on that logic Michael, I can now say people of your race, are inherently racist. BECAUSE I EXPERIENCED YOU BEING RACIST.
- there is no biological basis, yes
- but im not talking about one or a few
- (and i will agree that many persians are racist, but thats besides the point)
- Just because you experience homophobia from lets say, 2 - 5 black people, or 20 black people for the matter, does give you the privilege to label a WHOLE RACE (millions if not billions) of people of being more homophobic than other.
- That will never hold up in any argument EVER in the world LOL
- im not talking 20 black people
- im comparing all the black people i know with all the other people i know (school, community, family friends, etc) and comparing incidence of homophobic comments/behaviour
- SO by the few people you know (in a more rural setting where homophobia is more apparent) you can say, with 100% that people of certain races are more homophobic than others?
- I think what you should be saying "People who grow up in a culture of homophobia, are more likely to be homophobic"
- Race has NOTHING to do with this.
- due to cultural norms? yes
- and pickering is in no way rural
- south of Finch
- Henny, compared to the city, it might as well be rural.
- its majorly suburban with urban areas
- Besides, why aren't you generalizing white people? Look at trump and all of his followers. By your logic I should now say "White people should be in pride because, based on anecdotal experiences, they are racist, homophobic, and misogynists.
- Look at Rob Ford and his followers.
- Sorry, but your logic is flawed and racist.
- Just because you're entitled to your opinion, doesn't make it right.
- what if you look outside of a caucasian-majority country
- and at countries /in/ africa
- yes, homophobia was intoduced by caucasian intruders, but they have held on to it and amplified it much more than any other area on the globe
- take Uganda
- Ok, so now you are saying "Uganda, majority of people are black. They are really homophobic, therefore, black people in Canada must be the same"
- Michael, homophobia is learned.
- It's not natural.
- You just said white people introduced it, so blame white ancestors, not black people.
- most caucasian cultures have majorly reduced homophobic sentiment
- Like I said, race has nothing to do with this.
- All my experiences of homophobia come from white people.
- I'm not about to say all white people are homophobic or tend to be more homophobic.
- Everyone has different lived experiences with homophobia .
- I'm also going to end this conversation here because it really isn't going anywhere. I don't want to entertain ignorance or racism.
