  1. IED encounter
  2. 1. If a possible IED is discovered Immediately call out over radio with direction and location. Watch for Ambushes.
  3. 2. If possible call for EOD to come mark up its location with 3RED X's from spray can (trying to keep them obvious in a semi-circle)
  4. 3. While waiting for EOD setup defensive perimeter and lookout for trigger man.
  5. 4. If no EOD or you need to keep moving attempt to find a safe route around and mark location clearly on map, circle the known area of danger.

  7.
  8. Minefields
  9. Upon encounter
  10. 1. If minefield is suspected/found call out on radio, command needs to know about this.
  11. 2. If possible retrace your steps and attempt to find an alternate route around, Don't forget to mark on map.
  12. 3. If you have already triggered any mines do NOT move (not even to get to wounded). Attempt to treat any injuries you have sustained to yourself (tourniquets etc.) and report situation over radio.
  13.
  14. Navigation of Minefield
  15. 1. If you must move through a minefield you must have an EOD specialist with you on point.
  16. 2. Point man will mark any mines in path with red X's
  17. 3. Safe routes will be marked with green X's
  18. 4. At all costs shadow the man in fronts footsteps and follow their precise route while keeping firing arcs up so point man can concentrate on mine sweeping.
  19. 5. If a dead end is encountered and you have to double back, follow the route back you just took until point man can find alternate route.
  20. 6. If It's nighttime or in dark areas where spray paint is not clearly visible then mine marker flags and/or chemlights will be used to mark and/or illuminate a mine or IED
  21.
  22. Minefield Casualties
  23. 1. If casualties are sustained while in minefield do NOT rush to them, wait for EOD to clear a route to them.
  24. 2. Setup a perimeter as best as you can but do NOT move about in areas EOD has not checked. Be prepared as explosions will draw attention.
  25. 3. Once casualty is reached if it's possible to retrieve him and withdraw to safer area do so immediately otherwise attempt treatment as best as you can at location or in nearest cover.
  26. 4. Casualties are a priority to get clear of minefield as medivacs etc. are not possible here, do not fear pulling back to safer area along marked route.
  27.
  28. Examples of routes

  30.
  31. Remember if possible, avoid IED's/ minefields all together.
  32. RED X's are bad, GREEN X's mark safe route.
  33. Always notify via radio about any encounters.
  34.
  35. Setting Explosives
  36. 1. Set the demo block in the optimal place to maximise effect on target
  37. 2. Either set the timer to 30+ seconds or connect to your firing device
  38. 3. When you are setting off the demo block call out on radio “Controlled Det” then in how long “in T minus 30 sec” then “15 sec” then someone who has visual on the explosion calls “good det” followed by a BDA (Battle Damage Assessment) or “nothing seen”
