Introduction

The Sheffield Forensics Team is a special Forensics team deployed by the police in order to identify evidence and trace the culprits of a recent wave of crimes in the Sheffield area. A large database is already employed by the forensics team, which is in need of redesign. There are a number of forensic evidence types that are required to be managed by the database including Controlled Substances, Digital Evidence, DNA Analysis Evidence and Forensic Toxicology Evidence.

The proposed database system aims to streamline and complement the multitude of evidence gathering processes by providing comprehensive integration. In addition, the database is also proposed to have backup routines in order to ensure data preservation. Database Security is also taken into account by assigning multiple levels of access to the users.
