  2. [2015-02-25 13:20:31] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Having found the Amulet of Atonement and the Griffin's Goblet, the ponies and griffin of the Crimson Caravan reactivated the Radiant Shield of Rasdon, banishing the Quetzalcóatl Empress back to Tartarus.

[2015-02-25 13:20:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The Griffin's Goblet was bartered to the pirate zebras of the "salvage ship" /Cutlass/, and the Amulet of Atonement was given over to the powerful Spirit of Whispers known as the Faceless. In return, the Faceless revealed that the missing Element of Laughter was being held under guard in the catacombs beneath Roam.
  4. [2015-02-25 13:20:48] <Mare-Do-Well> 3On the trip to The Silos, the /Cutlass/ encountered an Imperial scout airship and gave chase. Noble_Heart divested the ship of its crew and the Crimson's Caravans group swiftly seized control of the airship.
  5. [2015-02-25 13:22:17] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The crew of the /Cutlass/ anchored the captured ship to their own, guiding it to the zebra pirates' hidden "free city", The Silos.

  7. [2015-02-25 13:22:35] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote gives Bookwright an appraising look. Shakes her head. Refocuses her attention on Shatara. "You came here towed by the /Cutlass/. That puts you under the Captain's flag. You are all hers... for the moment. That means she's responsible for you."
  8. [2015-02-25 13:22:43] <Mare-Do-Well> 3"You get into trouble, you get punished, but she's the one whose reputation suffers. And she's the one that has to make reparations. So don't get into trouble. At least, not for now. And be careful; there's plenty who would like to get you in trouble to hurt her."
  9. [2015-02-25 13:22:58] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Shatara relays this back to Bookwright, adding that it's probably not a good idea to run around alone.
  10. [2015-02-25 13:23:14] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Bookwright says, "So that's why I felt like a lump of gold when she looked at me back there. Alright, fine. But I at least want to look at the library." He stops short. "Um. There is a library, right?"
  11. [2015-02-25 13:23:27] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote continues, "It will only be like this for a few hours. Once your Captain Noble_Heart speaks to the Pirate Council, then you will belong to the city. And that only until you have your own flag and establish yourselves as independent pirates." She pauses. "Make sure to tell your Captain, when she is asked if she is a pirate, to say 'yes'."

  13. [2015-02-25 13:24:09] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The Cruentos with the skilled tongue steps forward, "We study the old tongues of trade. We offer protection, do not be afraid."
  14. [2015-02-25 13:24:17] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Noble_Heart smiles slightly at that prospect. "That would imply that we are not already safe enough on our own, wouldn't it? A strange claim to make in such an otherwise-civil port." She looked up and around at the myriad of buildings. "A place like this would not exist if most of its citizens were hostile."
  15. [2015-02-25 13:24:25] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The zebra calls back, "The Silos is a safe and friendly place... for those who travel beside a respected face."
  16. [2015-02-25 13:24:36] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Shatara blinks ant tilts his head at Jugeote for a moment, before he realizes at everyone is speaking pony. "Oh! Uh...they're offering us 'protection'...and Noble isn't convinced..." He emphasizes with talon-quotes.
  17. [2015-02-25 13:24:53] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote nickers. "Thing you need the most protection from around here is the Cruentos."
  18. [2015-02-25 13:25:09] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Noble_Heart frowns. "We would not be very good pirates if we required protection, would we? We liberated this ship from its controllers. Armed forces of Roam. And now you would tell Us that We need protection from those who claim to be Our friends?" She lets off a 'tsk'. "That, to Us, sounds more a threat than an offer."
  19. [2015-02-25 13:25:19] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The Cruentos calls back, "This is a town of scum and villainy. You can do better than a Wameli. Stay here long and you will see."
  20. [2015-02-25 13:25:29] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost waves a hoof "hey thanks for the warning! ta-ta!"
  21. [2015-02-25 13:25:32] <Mare-Do-Well> 3...
  22. [2015-02-25 13:26:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3With the customary threat issued, Golden_Dream and the zebra of the Red Spot begin to barter. Golden_Dream is far more skilled and persuasive, but the zebra is able to prevent himself from getting steamrolled, mostly due to a linguistic, market and culture home-advantage.
  23. [2015-02-25 13:26:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Golden_Dream is surprised when the gems cannot be exchanged for coin. After a snide "take them off your hooves" offer is rejected, Mwana pulls Golden_Dream aside and explains in hushed whispers that gems could be traded for other gems, or for favors, but selling a gem somehow diminishes it such that no trader would buy it.
  24. [2015-02-25 13:27:23] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost communicates via radio to parlay to have kid buy whatever small but effective energy source she could buy. Even better if it is powerful enough to move an assault-class battle mech.
  25. [2015-02-25 13:27:52] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Golden_Dream and the shopkeeper go at it for a while, finally settling up with lots of jingly jangly moneys. "Pleasure doin' business wit' y', and I swear if you or yer son starts shit-talkin' me again, I'm comin' back meaner, and ain't gonna give y' as good a deal on some'a that shit."
  26. [2015-02-25 13:27:53] <Mare-Do-Well> 3She just about steps out of the store when the request comes in. "... Really, Get?"

  28. [2015-02-25 13:28:31] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost trots outside the room again. "what's it now?" takes a glance at the robots.
  29. [2015-02-25 13:28:34] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost spends a moment watching the bots. The little flying bots have been cobbled together from the still-functional pieces of other robots. Their multiple-tooled limbs and small size tells Get_Lost they are general-purpose repair robots -- a jury-rigged equivalent of an Equestrian spider-bot.
  30. [2015-02-25 13:28:41] <Mare-Do-Well> 3However, Get_Lost is all too familiar with the damage that such a bot could do if malfunctioning. Or if programmed the right way.
  31. [2015-02-25 13:29:26] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost her visor turns black, then a serie of points start plipping n it, a little like an old radio wave frequency display, the mare humms not moving a leg. "aaaand done."
  32. [2015-02-25 13:29:36] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost says "i've not disabled them, just sent them into standby, i can restart them when i need to"

  34. [2015-02-25 13:30:19] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote eyes Shatara then asks sweetly, "Are you all right?"
  35. [2015-02-25 13:30:35] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost says, "noble, i think we're okay now. they should perform maintenance on the ship with no troubles. there was a rigged one but i think that now it will behave."
  36. [2015-02-25 13:30:50] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost adds, "also, please dont' touch them. so they can't accuse us of anything"
  37. [2015-02-25 13:30:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Shatara sputters a little and looks away, managing to blush more. "Y-yeah, fine..."
  38. [2015-02-25 13:31:05] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote appraises Shatara, then shifts on her hooves, the sweating zebra taking a more sultry stance. "You can look. Just don't stare."
  39. [2015-02-25 13:31:16] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Noble_Heart frowns and lands on the ship, "We shall allow them to work, then."
  40. [2015-02-25 13:31:38] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote watches as Get_Lost finishes work. "I suspect this was an attempt at sabotage from one of the other families. But it doesn't have that Crue 'push you over the railing' ring."
  41. [2015-02-25 13:31:43] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Shatara turns and looks over the sweaty sultry stripeypone, his wings spreading of their own accord.

  45. [2015-02-25 13:35:29] <Mare-Do-Well> 3A zebra in a foppish pirate hat and overly ornate vest approaches the (unofficially named) /Rainbow Connection/, flanked by several guard zebras who manage to look distinctly guard-like.
  46. [2015-02-25 13:36:14] * CopyCat had been doing her very best impression of a figurehead on the prow of their new airship. Earning a few impressed remarks which quickly turn to gasps of surprise when the figurehead makes faces to amuse passing foals.
  47. [2015-02-25 13:40:28] * Noble_Heart stands upon the deck of the ship, observing the work drones do there, well, work. The approaching zebra draws her attention as she lifts her head and flaps her wings briefly. Someone looking that official was clearly here on business. And wearing their Serious Hat as well.

  49. [2015-02-25 13:48:11] * CopyCat spots official-hat zebra and Co approaching and quickly moves to Noble_Heart's side. She could totally help with these talks. Or maybe just look pretty. Either way, she would do it!
  50. [2015-02-25 13:49:26] * Gundi_Kifalme 3approaches the /Rainbow Connection/ and begins up the gangplank. Jugeote shows deference to the zebra as he comes aboard. "Captain Noble_Heart?" he asks in the tongue of griffins, carrying the same fancy accent that Jugeote adopts when speaking the language.
  51. [2015-02-25 13:49:39] * Golden_Dream is still shopping with best zebra, as far as she's concerned. He's got an odd rogueish charm, alright?
  52. [2015-02-25 13:52:04] * Get_Lost sighs. really, on this ship it was impossible for a mad mare to work i peace... trots outside the captain's quarters and takes a look at what is going on this time
  53. [2015-02-25 13:52:14] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3Mwana Wameli seems to be enjoying the company of Golden_Dream, showing her the sights (such as they are) of Tres.
  54. [2015-02-25 13:52:24] * Noble_Heart stands straight and regards the zebra curiously a moment. She didn't speak fancy, unfortunately. But she did recognize her own name. "We are the one whom you seek."
  55. [2015-02-25 13:53:58] * Gundi_Kifalme 3turns to Noble_Heart, taking in the sight of the purple alicorn with wide eyes. He recovers quickly, asking in fancy, "I am told we have an interpreter?"
  56. [2015-02-25 13:55:39] * Get_Lost approaches the group, a bit curious about the giant hat. giant hats are always something
  57. [2015-02-25 13:57:05] * Noble_Heart glances around for Shatara. "Shatara? We could use your help. We do not speak fancy very well. Or at all."
  58. [2015-02-25 13:58:52] * Get_Lost stands next to noble, shoots a quick smile at the guy with the large hat and then asks to noble "who's this guy?"
  59. [2015-02-25 14:00:56] * Noble_Heart responds to Get Lost. "We believe this is most likely the representative of the zebra council. The ones who run this city."
  60. [2015-02-25 14:05:50] * Bookwright is accompanying Golden_Dream, but his real purpose is to stick his nose in as many books as possible.
  61. [2015-02-25 14:07:11] * Get_Lost "is it acceptable that i feel the urge to sniff and lick her?"
  62. [2015-02-25 14:08:16] * CopyCat nods at Get_Lost. "Acceptable but not polite, I fear."
  63. [2015-02-25 14:09:49] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3Mwana does lead Bookwright to one of Tres' many used book traders, a cramped space full of shelves with barely enough room to maneuver, lit by strings of small, colored lights. It seems much like a library, save where you pay a small fee to check out books -- a book rental shop.
  64. [2015-02-25 14:10:08] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3The zebra at the door is old and has only three legs. The baby sphinx next to intently watches everyone enter.
  65. [2015-02-25 14:11:54] * Bookwright browses excitedly.
  66. [2015-02-25 14:12:40] * Shatara looks away from Jugeote and nods to Noble_Heart.
  67. [2015-02-25 14:13:43] * Noble_Heart nods her head in the direction of Shatara. To indicate him as the one through whom they could direct messages. "We require your aid as a translator. These zebras seem to be here on serious business, and We would rather not insult those in charge."
  68. [2015-02-25 14:16:38] * Get_Lost "ask them if they sell giant hats please...."
  69. [2015-02-25 14:23:52] * Gundi_Kifalme 3states, "My apologies for the inconvenience. There is little call to learn Equestrian, as we have never done serious business with ponies. We are aware that, on rare occasion, they enter the basin. But they have never found The Silos."
  70. [2015-02-25 14:28:20] * Gundi_Kifalme 3says, "Fortunately, we have had considerable dealings with the griffins of Nouveau Nid, and every Family has at least one diplomat skilled in the language."
  71. [2015-02-25 14:31:31] * CopyCat chimes in unhelpfully in a language the diplomat didn't speak. "We found the Silos! We find all sorts of things." She wasn't totally used to this different-languages thing, and answered based on Shatara's understanding alone.
  72. [2015-02-25 14:33:39] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3The books in the trade shop are all well-read to the point of being in tatters. Bookwright discovers a couple books that are clearly post-war... they look relatively recent, in fact, similar to books printed by the Followers with the Fillydelphia printing presses.
  73. [2015-02-25 14:34:14] * Shatara perks up a little at mention of the gryphon settlement, but tries his best to maintain composure and relay everything to Noble_Heart. With some discomfort. He hates repeating things...
  74. [2015-02-25 14:36:01] * Noble_Heart nods her head and looks down at the zebras. "An understandable problem. Equestria is quite far, and across very dangerous terrain. Made more dangerous by the actions of these forces of Roam."
  75. [2015-02-25 14:37:17] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3Mwana leads Golden_Dream to the back corner of the book trade. "This is my favorite section..." he says with a grin as the pulp adventure shelf comes into view. The shelf is a bit different from others in that it has several recognizable books -- the Daring Do series -- available in exceptionally ragged paperback as well as in a series of recorder modules.
  76. [2015-02-25 14:40:00] * Golden_Dream continues looks through the book rental. She idly wondered if they had any- oh holy shit they do. She looks at him with big wide eyes. "... Hey, erm. Mwana. Lemme show y' somethin' when we get back. I promise 'y, you'll like it."
  77. [2015-02-25 14:42:12] <Golden_Dream> : goes solemn for a little while. "Y'wanna read th' unreleased book sometime? We found some of her stuff. Daring Do's, I mean."
  78. [2015-02-25 14:42:27] * Golden_Dream does that!
  79. [2015-02-25 14:42:42] * Shatara stands idle a few moments, before the weight of the collective stares snaps him back, and he shakily translates Noble's response. Somehow, it was easier when it was just Jugeote...
  80. [2015-02-25 14:42:51] * Bookwright eagerly flips open one of the newer looking books.
  81. [2015-02-25 14:43:37] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3Mwana looks ecstatic! "Really! Oh I /must/ read those! I taught myself Equestrian just so I could read the books in the original language. Translations never do justice."
  82. [2015-02-25 14:44:11] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3Mwana squees like only a teen stallion can.
  83. [2015-02-25 14:46:29] * Gundi_Kifalme 3nods. "So, Captain Wameli has told me that you captured this ship on your own. Nicely done. And, I am told, you wish to become an independent pirate company?"
  84. [2015-02-25 14:46:43] * Get_Lost smiles at the captain. or, actually, at the captain's hat. having one of those would totally make her feel so... ah.. well.. she still has no idea of what whe would look like, but she feels that it woul be awesome
  85. [2015-02-25 14:47:07] * Get_Lost is also a good thing htat since she has a visor, it is hard to tell where she's staring exactly
  86. [2015-02-25 14:49:59] * Gundi_Kifalme 3adds, "Captain Wameli has already taken the steps to remand you to the Council, and has given her recommendation. There are steps that must be taken to establish yourselves and an independent company, of course. But the most significant tasks -- capturing your own ship and obtaining a recommendation -- you have already managed."
  87. [2015-02-25 14:51:31] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3The newer books, like the others, are filled with zebra glyphs. But the book that Bookwright has chosen also has a good many pictures. And those pictures depict wartime ponies and zebras... and by the impression Bookwright gets, neither are being portrayed in a positive light.
  88. [2015-02-25 14:52:13] * Bookwright flips open a notebook. "Unbiased... history..."
  89. [2015-02-25 14:53:06] * CopyCat whispers loudly to Noble_Heart (and anyone who would listen) after Shatara had translated. "If we need a mascot, I /totally/ volunteer to be mascot."
  90. [2015-02-25 14:55:10] * Noble_Heart twitches her ear at CopyCat's words and chuckles slightly. She nods her head to the zebras before her. "Yes. That is indeed Our intention. A properly independent pirate concern."
  91. [2015-02-25 14:56:11] * Bookwright closes the book and tries to get Mwana's attention. "Um. Hey. Do you know who the author of this book is?"
  92. [2015-02-25 14:57:30] * Golden_Dream tips her helmet. "I'll tell y' th' story a lil' later on how we got around here. It's a real flank-clencher." Real lady-like there, Goldy. Really showing you being raised around guys here.
  93. [2015-02-25 14:59:30] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3Bookwright hears a voice hiss softly from above. "You saw me where I never was and where I could not be. And yet within that very place, my face you often see."
  94. [2015-02-25 15:02:24] * Gundi_Kifalme 3tells Noble_Heart, "Well, then, there are things to swear and things to sign, but first your ship needs a name and your company needs a flag. You plan to be Family Heart, I presume?"
  95. [2015-02-25 15:02:30] * Bookwright looks up. "Aw, no fair. I stink at riddles. Is the answer 'my reflection'?"
  96. [2015-02-25 15:05:11] * Noble_Heart blinks briefly. She didn't actually know much about the families after all. "We have a name for Our ship. We believe Our companions have put forth the suggestion of the Rainbow Connection." Truthfully it wasn't really her choice. But, it was suitable enough.
  97. [2015-02-25 15:07:00] * Gundi_Kifalme 3raises an eyebrow. "Interesting choice. Does it mean something fearsome in Equestrian?"
  98. [2015-02-25 15:08:09] * CopyCat nodnods. Yay communication!
  99. [2015-02-25 15:08:14] * Get_Lost smiles and whispers "depends on what side of the rainbow you are..."
  100. [2015-02-25 15:08:22] * Noble_Heart chuckles slightly. "It might. To those who know their history. Rainbow Dash was the head of the Shadowbolts, after all."
  101. [2015-02-25 15:10:09] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3The baby sphinx smiles down at Bookwright from atop a bookshelf. "Reflections are not what you see, they are merely pretend. Much better seen within a mirror than within a friend." The little spirit turns and disappears over the other side.
  102. [2015-02-25 15:12:52] * Bookwright frowns upward, mind working. "You know, that's a pretty cryptic way of saying that I should watch out for people who are only pretending to like me."
  103. [2015-02-25 15:14:45] * Gundi_Kifalme 3nods. "Very well, then. You will need to choose company colors and a flag, and mark your ship appropriately." He points towards the other ships, each of which are painted entirely in two or three colors and bear some sort of pirate flag or symbol.
  104. [2015-02-25 15:15:26] * Gundi_Kifalme 3warns, "Make sure your colors and flag are extremely visible. You would not wish to be shot down or become prey for other pirates because you are mistaken for an Imperial ship."
  105. [2015-02-25 15:16:05] * Noble_Heart frowns and nods her head. That was a wrinkle she hadn't really specifically planned for. She'd have to talk to the others about that.
  106. [2015-02-25 15:16:28] <Noble_Heart> "We shall make the appropriate preparations once Our companions return from their trading trip."
  107. [2015-02-25 15:18:48] * Gundi_Kifalme 3nods. "Fortunately, The Silos do boast many establishments that can sell you what you need. I would recommend shopping where the Wameli have influence, or at establishments marked with the Council's neutrality... at least until you are established."
  108. [2015-02-25 15:19:11] * CopyCat mutters to Get_Lost. "We need a lotta colours."
  109. [2015-02-25 15:22:18] * Gundi_Kifalme 3recommends, "Spend most of your time here in Tres, or over in Unus. I would personally recommend Unus, as the Council has direct oversight and can promise full neutrality in business dealings."
  110. [2015-02-25 15:22:27] * Get_Lost "what about pink, yellow and blue?"
  111. [2015-02-25 15:24:10] * Noble_Heart nods her head, then looks up and around curiously. "We will keep that in mind. We have a slightly strange question about this place. We have never seen the interior of a zebra missile base before. Do you know what happened to the missiles that were here? It must be rare that such a place survived the final exchange."
  112. [2015-02-25 15:26:18] * Gundi_Kifalme 3cocks his head. Then chuckles. "Not so odd a question, really. If there were still missiles in here, there wouldn't be a town. What manner of crazy would you have to be to build a city around a balefire warhead?"
  113. [2015-02-25 15:26:25] * Bookwright carefully notes down all the zebra glyphs on the front cover of the book, and makes an accompanying sketch, so he can get somepony to translate it later. He returns the book to its shelf.
  114. [2015-02-25 15:26:47] <Golden_Dream> : looks back at Bookwright. "What're y' talkin' to?"
  115. [2015-02-25 15:26:55] * Golden_Dream DOES THAT ARG.
  116. [2015-02-25 15:27:24] * Get_Lost shrugs "i would"
  117. [2015-02-25 15:27:35] * Bookwright "Didn't you see the Sphinx in here? It asked me a riddle... In equestrian, come to think of it. Interesting."
  118. [2015-02-25 15:27:58] * Noble_Heart contemplates that. "The very desperate kind, We suppose. Or very misguided. Or perhaps simply someone who did not understand what they were looking at." She nodded her head. "We thank you for your answer."
  119. [2015-02-25 15:29:15] * Get_Lost "so... if you go in town to buy a proper captain hat, please let me know. i would like some giant hat for me too, noble. i'm going back to my project till then"
  120. [2015-02-25 15:29:42] * Gundi_Kifalme 3says, "The one's here? They were fired. Based on the old computers, the three housed here all went for Equestria's capital. You might not know it, but Equestria used to have a capital city built high up on what used to be a mountain."
  121. [2015-02-25 15:29:43] * Golden_Dream looks around, suddenly very on-edge. "... Nah, Bookie, I ain't never seen a sphinx."
  122. [2015-02-25 15:30:42] * Noble_Heart nods her head to Get Lost. "We shall have to invest in some proper captain's clothing, yes. It seems likely to be necessary in dealings here..." She hadn't really considered that before, really. She looked back up to Gundi_Kifalme and smiled. "We have seen the ruins of Canterlot. Though it is a very inhospitable place. The zebras of old did something there that makes balefire

  124. [2015-02-25 15:31:04] * Bookwright shrugs. "Oh. Well, it's in here somewhere. Cute little guy. Or girl. Um. Hard to tell, actually."
  125. [2015-02-25 15:31:38] <Gundi_Kifalme> 3Mwana nods. "Sphinx's are spirits, so they speak the language of the one to whom they are talking. Their communication is limited by their nature, not by our tongues."

  127. [2015-02-25 15:34:58] * Gundi_Kifalme 3notes, "Several pirate captains have ship's spirits. I know of more than one who made the error of having the spirit act as translator. Never turned out well."
