  1. "You were not kidding, then?" Fitzwilliam said. "It stops time—literally?"
  2.
  3. "No, I was not kidding, then," Jack said.
  4.
  5. "I dare say that I am somewhat confused by the goings-on here," Fitzwilliam said.
  6.
  7. "What's not clear to you, mate?" Jack said. "Now we know why this island and that temple looked familiar to us. We've even been down that booby-trapped floor before. We're in Stone-Eyed Sam's pirate kingdom on Isla Esqueletica, And we're somehow here before he lost his all-powerful Sword and fell from power."
  8.
  9. "Right, Jack. That makes so much sense. You said yourself that Sam was dead. We saw his remains. We delivered the Sword to Tia Dalma ourselves," Fitzwilliam argued.
  10.
  11. "These points all raise questions. You shouldn't open your mouth unless you have answers, too, savvy?"
  12.
  13. "I did notice Sam's mark in that grand hall. I just didn't think too much of it. He could have left his mark in a lot of places," Fitzwilliam admitted. "But he had been dead for years by the time we first visited his island. His kingdom was in ruins. If this is the same place, does it mean he has been resurrected? And that his city has somehow risen from the ashes as well?"
  14.
  15. Jack and Fitzwilliam looked back at the terrifying—but frozen—pirate. His fanglike teeth were bared, and the huge X of a scar that marked his face was red with rage.
  16.
  17. Turning from the pirate. Jack looked down at the watch again.
  18.
  19. "I gather that we're both still moving despite time having stopped, because you were touching the watch chain when I lifted the crown out and stopped it," Jack said. "Since we both have all the time in the world, let's try to find our way out of this place."
