  1. The headlines proclaim, “Discovery May Lead to Turning Back the Clock on Ovarian Cancer”, “Researchers Find Method for Recycling Rubble, Rebuilding Haiti”, and “LCD Projector Used to Control Brains & Muscles of Tiny Organisms”. All of his amazing research is being undergone at Georgia Tech, which is clearly at the forefront of creating the solutions for society’s most pressing problems and inquiries. As a prospective college freshman, it’s easy for me to be overwhelmed by all Georgia Tech has to offer, both to me and society at large; with such incredible work being done, I could question what I could add to the Georgia Tech community. But as I’ve explored the research being done at Georgia Tech, I’ve seen that the research relies upon the ideas of Undergraduates and Graduate students who earned their undergraduate degrees at Georgia Tech. The students the school proudly displays in its research stories are just that, students. The school needs the innovation of its students as much as the students need its instructors.
  2. If I become a student at Georgia Tech, I will add to its already impressive sustainability efforts, and hopefully help these efforts change its goal of sustainability to one of progress. I hope to contribute to alternative energy research, working with some of the most intelligent and technologically-proficient student bodies and staffs in the country. Sustainability is not simply about improving the technology we use, but changing how we use this technology; as our lives become more and more entangled with our technology, sustainability will invariably change how we live. I hope to combine my interests in English with the deeper understanding of the problems we face today, and their solutions, that I will obtain at Georgia Tech, to help spread information about the changes we cannot afford to not make.
  3. Sustainability isn’t the only field in which I have something to contribute. My interests, of course, reach far outside of the realms of sustainability. I plan on being a part of the roaring masses at each Georgia Tech basketball and football game, but I hope my interactions with the sports teams run deeper than that of just a spectator and fan. I have always been interested in journalism, and I hope to have the opportunity to contribute to the sports section of The Technique, as well as the editorial section.
  4. I hope to take advantage of the vast opportunities a Georgia Tech education will offer me, in both the process and the results. I believe I can help Georgia Tech find the solutions to the problems of today, and prevent the problems of tomorrow.
