  1. I've received news that Splatoon 2 is region locked for language. This was done to separate regions for splatfest but for some reason they separated languages too. This means to have the Japanese language for speedrunning (which is definitely faster.) It would cost another 60 dollars. Luckily we can play it on our switch, we just are required to buy another copy.
  2.
  3. For this reason, I recommend that NO (of course non-japanese) speedrunners buy the Japanese copy of the game yet. I'm considering, with approval from the community, to ban Japanese from the leaderboard until more information is found about it. It's very possible, like in Splatoon 1, that the only difference is faster text.
  4.
  5. Pros:
  6. We remove any additional money from the run right away, which might hinder competition in the future.
  7. Japanese only will affect text. Everything else in the game is (probably) exactly the same. Leading to an advantage simply for buying another copy.
  8. If we change the rules in the future, the japanese copy can be downloaded by everyone from the E-shop if you make a JP account on the switch.
  9.
  10. Cons:
  11. Japanese runners exist, and they will want to be on our leaderboard. We'll need to figure out a compromise to allow them on the leaderboard.
  12. It's technically "the fastest" language and we'd be hindering ourselves time-wise.
  13.
  14. Thanks, for these reasons I recommend that EVERYONE who is interested in running Splatoon 2 DO NOT BUY the JP version yet. This will be an ongoing discussion and saying "but I already bought it" is not a valid argument now that you know.
