- Reddit is used to manipulate public opinion on GMO foods. ProGMO voices use the subReddit IAMA (I am a...) used for interview Q&A's, to counter concerns people have about GMO foods.
- 2 recent examples:
- Professor Kevin Folta is a biotech scientist who claims to be victimized by the Right to Know campaign. The Professor works at public university (University of Florida and his research is in large part supported by public funds, but the professor feels threatened by transparency. Folta downplays his ties to Monsanto. The professor denies that Monsanto pays for his research, but does not deny that Monsanto funds his travel expenses to talk to farmers and schools about GMO foods. The professor does state he has friends that work at Monsanto, and considers Monsanto to be "one of the best companies to work for". Folta argues that GMO foods are exactly the same as nonGMO foods, and so should not be labelled. Folta believes that genetic modification is a process, which does not create distinct products differing from nonGMO foods. Folta dismisses concerns over GMO foods, typing he is against labeling to ensure consumer "fear does not become my burden". The professor argues concerns over GMOs are a "lifestyle choice" and the people question "this science in order to be members of the tribe in good standing". The professor also believes concerns over GMO foods are supported by giant corporations, "These folks are well funded and represent a giant industry onto itself. They are the Goliath here, I'm just a scientist talking about science. they need me to stop."

- An anonymous person using the handle "fearthejet" also did an IAMA on Reddit. The Reddit user claims to be victimized by people concerned about GMOs, and asserts that anyone with concerns about GMOs is not doing "the research on GMO to properly analyze" the the issue. In the IAMA, it is claimed that any crossbred food could be considered GMO, and that almost anything could be considered GMO. The intended purpose of the IAMA was to clear misconceptions about GMO foods, but the Reddit user denies any difference between crossbreeding and more direct genetic manipulation. "fearthejet" is statedly against labeling of GMO foods.
