  1. "Whoah, oh no no no, what the hell? What the hell is wrong with my daughter?"
  2.
  3. >"Miss Dash, please calm down, your child is perfectly healthy."
  4.
  5. "Healthy? It's disgusting! Look at it, it's a monster!"
  6.
  7. >"Miss Dash please try to calm down, you're in rough shape from the unusual labor. Please try-"
  8.
  9. "Stop talking to me like there isn't a problem! That -thing- did not just come out of me!"
  10.
  11. >"Miss Dash, you are well aware what an Anonymous sperm donor is, correct?"
  12.
  13. "I-it's a random pony-"
  14.
  15. >"Human. Anonymous are human. You should have filed for a 'Random' sperm donor if you wanted a pure pony child."
  16.
  17. "What..."
  18.
  19. >"Miss Dash please calm yourself, your condition is worsening. Did you not even read the paperwork you filed with your wife?"
  20.
  21. "I tried to, but l... I just wanted to be-"
  22.
  23. >"Whatever you wanted, Miss Dash, was a child to raise with your special somepony. You did not adopt, you insisted it be your own flesh and blood. You now have a pegasatyr, uhm, daughter. Didn't you get counseling sessions prior to insemination?"
  24.
  25. "Twi helped me skip them, she's impor-"
  26.
  27. >"She's a mother now, just like you. Now hold your child before we take it to the ward, please."
  28.
  29. "It's... It's just so ugly..."
  30.
  31. >"I hope it grows on you, Miss Dash. I've never had a case of postpartum begin at the actual birth before."
  32.
  33. "I, uh... is Twilight here yet?"
  34.
  35. >"No, the reception desk recieved a letter while you were dilating stating that she was in the middle of sone extremely important crystal research and would visit you before you were checked out this week."
  36.
  37. "Oh, ok. She's very impor-"
  38.
  39. >"Important, l know. You tell me every time she doesn't come to your checkups with you, l've heard."
  40.
  41. "I- I know. Could, could one of the nurses maybe stay with me for a few-"
  42.
  43. >"No, hit the call button if there's an emergency, and give me the foal back for exams."
  44.
  45. "O-okay."
  46.
  47. >"I'll have one of the nurses return your Daring Do book to pass the time after you wake up, the children's waiting room borrowed it"
  48.
  49. ---
  50.
  51. "Twilight where are you going it's Sonic's birthday."
  52.
  53. >"Come on Dash, she's two. Seriously, she won't remember a thing. This Saddle Arabian debate though, will live on forever in the history books."
  54.
  55. "You promised me it would be different this year, Twi. You promised you'd stay."
  56.
  57. >"I love you, Dash."
  58.
  59. "Yeah, I lo-"
  60.
  61. >"Great! So I'll see you in two weeks!"
  62.
  63. Blinding flash and ear splitting crack marked Twilight's sudden disappearance, leaving Dash alone with a now frightened and crying child.
  64.
  65. The satyr sat in a slightly too small baby chair, her uncut hair tied back into a tangled ponytail, her bare chest dirty with bits of food. Dash had tried to make birthday cupcakes while Twilight was getting ready, a half pan of six mostly burnt pastries. Once the outsides were peeled off they weren't too bad, two picked chunks of cupcake sitting in front of the unkempt little girl.
  66.
  67. Dash sang 'Happy Birthday' a few times in a row to calm her down, showing her the cake again and trying to get her to eat. The toddler smeared the bits of cake and frosting over her face, idly kicking her legs and tapping hooves against the flimsy plastic legs of the high chair. Dash picked another burnt cupcake for her, but the young girl threw it across the kitchen, done eating for the moment.
  68.
  69. Dash carried her into the living room, dropping her in her playpen and securely fastening it shut. Checking all the beer bottles on the coffee table to discover they were all actually empty she grabbed a couple warm ones from the crate that was also her footstool and went to take a mid-afternoon bath.
  70.
  71. Nobody was there to sing songs for the crying pegasus.
  72.
  73. ---
  74.
  75. "Hey, Twi? Can we talk for a sec?"
  76.
  77. >"I told you not to come in my lab, dear."
  78.
  79. "It's important. You've been in here for a week."
  80.
  81. >"I'm channeling, please don't distract me."
  82.
  83. "I don't think you love me anymore."
  84.
  85. >"Not this right now, please, l'm busy."
  86.
  87. "Busy? You've been ignoring -Sonic go outside mom's talking- ignoring me for years, you aren't the same anymore."
  88.
  89. >"And you've remained unchanged? Do you ever chance by a mirror, dear?"
  90.
  91. "What?"
  92.
  93. >"You've lost all your luster and gained about sixteen kilograms. You're moody and unathletic. Do you remember promising to never change, Dash?"
  94.
  95. "I-"
  96.
  97. >"How unloyal, to let me down like that."
  98.
  99. "You... -Sonic l said go outside- you don't care about me anymore? Is that it?"
  100.
  101. >"I'll always care about you, Dash. You'll always be my illiterate, 'can't even read a form' 'thinks she's the stallion even though l make all the bits' 'loved the babyfat so much she kept it' precious little kitten."
  102.
  103. "Stop it, Twi."
  104.
  105. >"Princess Twilight, if you could. Please show a little respect. Now get out, you've nearly cost me six months of research"
  106.
  107. "Is it more important than l am to you?"
  108.
  109. >"..."
  110.
  111. "Twi, l don't want to have to leave you, please talk to me."
  112.
  113. >"Dash, everything's going to be just fine, ok? Now get your little mistake out of my lab before there's actually a real problem."
  114.
  115. "Her name is Sonic, she's your daughter."
  116.
  117. >"No. She's yours, Dash. You said you were worried you couldn't love an adopted child as dearly as your own, so l let you fuck up a form and get this thing put inside you. Perhaps you were right, it is difficult to feel love for something that isn't your own."
  118.
  119. "Stop calling her a mistake!"
  120.
  121. >"She was, Dash. Just like you. Now get out."
  122.
  123. Roughly forced into the hallway with a magical shove, door locking in her face, Dash could do nothing but rest against the barrier and fight back the hurt as Sonic peeked around the corner from the kitchen. The little satyr decided to bring her favorite kind of juicebox to mom.
  124.
  125. --
  126.
  127. >"Well done Cinnamon, that was an amazing presentation on the apple agricultural business. Sonic, you're up next."
  128.
  129. "Okay! My mom is the coolest mom ever. She's always at home so l can play with her whenever l want and she's never, ever too busy."
  130.
  131. >"And your Dad, sweetie?"
  132.
  133. "I uh, don't have one. I used to have another mom, but she left last year. My real mom says she's very important."
  134.
  135. >"I'm so sorry dear, what career does your 'real' mom have again?"
  136.
  137. "Alley money."
  138.
  139. >"Alley money?"
  140.
  141. "Yeah, every month she gets a lot of alley money and takes me out to a really nice dinner since she can't cook very good."
  142.
  143. >"Alimony?"
  144.
  145. "Uh huh, alley money. I like my mom's job because she always can play with me and read my books with me and then she always takes a lot of naps while l run around. So, alley money is the coolest job in the world for a mom."
  146.
  147. >"Yes, dear, that's... lovely. What does your other mother do again?"
  148.
  149. "She's very important."
  150.
  151. >"That's not a job, dear."
  152.
  153. "That's all my mom says though, every time l ask."
  154.
  155. >"I have to give you a 'C' sweetheart, since you didn't actually prepare a presentation for career day."
  156.
  157. "Hey that's not fair, Cider's parents just do the same thing, she only had one-"
  158.
  159. >"Cider's parents have jobs, Sonic. Your mother is unemployed and living on welfare from your other mother that actually has a job, which you failed to present to the class."
  160.
  161. "No, my mom's super cool and doesn't need anyone's help to do anything!"
  162.
  163. >"Sit down, Sonic. Your turn is over."
  164.
  165. Fuming, the little girl stomped to her seat and tightly crossed her arms. A few of the other foals laughed, but Sonic didn't care. Her mom was, without a doubt, the best and coolest mom ever.
  166.
  167. Meanwhile, Dash lay in her unkept bed, shades drawn, waiting for the clock to read two thirty so she could start walking to the schoolyard. From eight to two were the longest, loneliest six hours of the day, and until Twilight's check came in on the first there wasn't even any beer left.
  168.
  169. ---
  170.
  171. >"Hey Dash, it's been so long, huh? Hah, wow, you sure look surprised. I got your letter, thought I'd just come by instead of writing back. Isn't that totally awesome of me?"
  172.
  173. "Oh, yeah, I mean, the house is a little-"
  174.
  175. >"Pffft, it's nothing. Hah, you sure do drink a hell of a lot, don't you?"
  176.
  177. "N-no, I just don't really clean much."
  178.
  179. >"Oh look pictures, who's this?"
  180.
  181. "That's Son-"
  182.
  183. >"No way! You got with an Anon? That's so cool."
  184.
  185. "Well I actually-"
  186.
  187. >"And you're pregnant again?"
  188.
  189. "N-no that's just the uh, b-beer belly"
  190.
  191. >"Hah! Just pranking you, for old times. Good to see you came around too."
  192.
  193. "Ex-excuse me?"
  194.
  195. >"You know, got over it. Playing around in flight school, I mean."
  196.
  197. "That wasn't-"
  198.
  199. >"Serious, I know, don't worry. I have a clutch of my own, you know. Two huntresses and a tanner, if he ever finished his apprenticeship."
  200.
  201. "You have kids?"
  202.
  203. >"Yeah, and a husband. It's so funny, I used to get so mad remembering you and your pink friend. I was so worked up trying to get together to tell you that I liked you and that maybe we should move in together again, outside of the school dorms, and I just exploded on her when I couldn't get a second to ourselves."
  204.
  205. "Y-you really liked me that much?"
  206.
  207. >"Don't worry, don't feel weird around me, that's long over with. I'm so happy now I can hardly imagine what else could have possibly been, you know?"
  208.
  209. "Y-yeah, what could have been..."
  210.
  211. >"Hey, let's go see that pink pony again, I owe her some thanks for setting my life on the right track."
  212.
  213. "Thank her, yeah. Let's go."
  214.
  215. ---
  216.
  217. >"Speed Dating?"
  218.
  219. "Yes honey, speed dating."
  220.
  221. >"I haven't seen you brush your mane since I was twelve, mom."
  222.
  223. "Well, I am, so there. I think I'll even put on hoof polish."
  224.
  225. >"That's my hoof polish."
  226.
  227. "I think I need it more."
  228.
  229. >"How come you're allowed to go speed dating but I can't even go regular dating?"
  230.
  231. "You're too young, you know that."
  232.
  233. >"I'm fifteen mom, come on, everyone else has special someponies."
  234.
  235. "Just don't, just please don't, not for a long time."
  236.
  237. >"Mom, you're nervous."
  238.
  239. "Of course I'm nervous."
  240.
  241. >"You'll be fine mom, you'll probably get so many hook ups you won't even be able to keep track of them."
  242.
  243. "Yeah, I hope so."
  244.
  245. >"You know so, mom."
  246.
  247. "Yeah, I know so."
  248.
  249. >"Oh my gosh, wow, where did you get that dress?"
  250.
  251. "A friend made it, a long time ago."
  252.
  253. >"That looks amazing, why haven't you ever worn it?"
  254.
  255. "I just, I haven't felt pretty enough. In a long, long time."
  256.
  257. >"Shut up mom, come on, let's get this on you."
  258.
  259. "It's a, a little more snug that I remember."
  260.
  261. >"It'll fit"
  262.
  263. "Forget it sweeth-hnnng!"
  264.
  265. >"Made it!"
  266.
  267. "Ffff, I can make it. Just gotta make it though the night."
  268.
  269. >"I'll even have dinner ready for you and my new mom when you get back, how does that sound?"
  270.
  271. "Sounds great kid, I'll never get how you picked up cooking so fast."
  272.
  273. >"I do everything fast mom, I'm a #1 Speedster after all."
  274.
  275. "Yeah, I remember when I w-"
  276.
  277. >"You need to get going mom, or you'll be late."
