- ---Xerneas supported:
- >Fake out users: Mega Kangaskan, Liepard, Meowstic,
- >Quick Guard users: Crobat, Meowstic, Mega Lucario
- >Redirection support: -Rage Powder users: Amoongus(alright), Volcarona(eer), Jumpluff(just as bad as volcarona actualy).
- -Follow me Support: Mega Lucario
- Primal Groundon:
- -Chlorophyll users(Supported by Primal Groundon: Venesaur(still slower then boosted Xerneas), Jumpluff, Tangrowth (still bad speed)
- -Flower Gift(Supports Groundon): Cherrim (I need to explain this a bit more then just say it's a good allie)
- -Skill Swap Support: Cresselia(ideal team mate for this + Moonlight in sun), Mega Gengar, Gothitelle, Mewtwo(mega or not, Better speed/Mutch better Offence then Cress but slightly less bulk), Lugia (even more of a wast of a restricted legend slot then mewtwo is but got Speed/slightly better offence then Cress)
- -Role Play: Thunderus-I, Liepard, Meowstic(Male), ,Sableye(regular) and last and most definatly least Latias.
- (skill swap is overall better, however Role play can allow the important ability to still be transfered)
- Primal Kyogre:
- Rain Abusers: Ferrothorn, Scizzor, Ludicolo, Thornadus-I (yes I not T, as I actualy has Prankster + tailwind/Rolepay etc.), Mega-Swampert , Seismictoad.
- -Skill Swap Support: Mega Gengar, Gothitelle, Cresselia, Mewtwo(mega or not, Better speed/Mutch better Offence then Cress but slightly less bulk), Lugia (even more of a wast of a restricted legend slot then mewtwo is but got Speed/slightly better offence then Cress)
- -Role Play: Liepard, Meowstic(Male), Thornadus-I, Thunderus-I, Sableye(regular) and last and most definatly least Latias.
- (skill swap is overall better, however Role play can allow the important ability to still be transfered)
- Regular Kyogre:
- Small note, it sucks, however the team mates include Rayquaza, Mega rayquaza and .... Lickylicky... oh and golduck aswell....
- YOu know the only team mates it did ever have is Rayquaza reguardless of what form as that doesn't even matter depending on the situation of (normal/mega)Raquaza being switched in will do the trick reguardless, while Mega evolving Rayquaze would also do the trick.
- The single use of this is making good damage out put with Water Spout + Choise Scarf, too bad the metagame is full of Thunderwave spam and Priority moves.
- Overall metagame:
- There will be more secundairy mega evolutions, example: Mega Kangaskan and Mega rayquaza on the same team, while only one could mega evolve megaray can still take away the weather on the turn it switches in, while Megakangaskan might not be a good option on anotehr play it can be very effective in this one, sure it can be more of a wast however the gains can also be mutch higher, idealy the secundairy mega has a niche outside of the mega evolution. Good examples for this include: Mega Salamence and Mega rayquaza, all can have some use forexample Mawile still checks Xerneas by regular Iron head + some side damage from an allie aswell as making use of the Intimidate, same for salamence, actualy even more so for him as it allowes him to check Physical Primal Groundon mutch better,
- Reguar Rayquaza works just as well a the mega outside of he obvious difference in speed, attack and instant switch of weather it can still function as a check to primal Groundon nonetheless.
- Overall good ballenced pressure is key: the majority of the metagame will try to have checks and answeres against most things, these mostly include Xerneas, Primal Groundon and Primal Kyogre but alos Megaray.
- The biggest problem with these is the fact Megaray can naturaly wallbreak about any pokemon 1v1, something you should prepair for.
- PrimalGroundon while easy to weardown, it's defences are enough to take on more then just a single opponant at a time. it's offencive pressure is high in both Special Attack as Attack both easly wallbreaking, Kyogre doesn;t not have this versatility however it can abuse set up moments aswell as take good advantage of Xerneas allies for it's own Calm Mind gains, what isn't too great compaired to spamming Water Spout, it's still highly effective.
- Xerneas is a big problem, as once it set's up depending on movepool i can 1HKO about anything only a few pokemon are out of the list when just concidering: (also fairy oura and hugh special attack,+2 modest 252 sp attack: Dazzlinggleam (-25% from doubles), Moonblast and Hidden power Ground.
- I haven't even noted Focus Blast/Thunder yet, who are also highly effective as they deal with Talonflame/Crobat or less common pokemon like Ferrothorn, Chansey and Blissey(mental herb :v) who might not be too common but they are still effective especially Ferrothorn who is one of the best allies for Primal Kyogre and Chansey is nice for very bulky oriented teams(gives Healer ability uses, Helping hand, Thunderwave to ease up Xerneas for Physical Wallbreakers and Healing wish/Soft Boiled after 2/3 Hit's to give another pokemon a go or be more durable it self also 252+ Atk Primal Groudon Precipice Blades vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 273-322 (42.5 - 50.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO). Hidden Power ground allowes you to deal with (Mega/Normal) Mawile, Primal Groundon, Aegislash, Dailga and Heatran if anyone is still running that old rusty pokemon.
- Having more defencive pressure then offencive pressure in this highly wallbreaking metagame is disrecommanded. Having more Offencive pressure at cost of surving certain attacks like Mega rays E-speed is also worrisome. Idealy you did have a Bulky offencive or a Ballenced build, as these are by the S pokemon proven to be the best play style.
- So what to look for when building a team:
- Answeres agaisnt the main threats,
- example:
- For Primal Groundon:
- Mega salamence, Mega rayquaza and Primal Kyogre are all good answeres and checks for Primal Groudon, however they are not the onlypokemon that can deal with it, as there exist stratagies to deal with it aswell. A good example includes Worry Seed to remove the opponants ability while Skill Swap + Primal Kyogre/Rayquaza can change the weather into the form you build your team to work in idealy.
- For Primal Kyogre:
- Kyogre has a simalar system but has many more answeres especialy as it only focuses on special oriented attacks, so answeres like Blissey can take turn in this aswell good examples of answeres include: Ferrothorn, Primal Groundon, Dialga, Palkia, Ludicolo, (Mega/Normal) Venusaur oh and also chansey however this is a good example of lacking offencive pressure your self and being more dependend by supporting your allie then anything else.
- For Xerneas:
- Taunt/Encore causing it to be useless for 1 turn and unable to set up or locked for atleast 2 more turns into Geomancy, multiple Fairy resists, Priority uses and Speed Controll.
- Taunt/Encore: Talonflame, Crobat, Liepard, Thunderus-I and Whimisicott all make good Taunt/Encore users and Priority encore can lock xerneas while anything above 100 base speed can prevent Xerneas from boosting with Geomancy.
- Multiple Fairy resists also help, examples include: Mega Mawile, Mega Gengar, Talonflame, Crobat, Ferrothorn, Aegislash, Scizor and general walls like Chansey. Offencive pressure the turn it set's up is also helpfull as it's defences aren't nearly as great as it's special defences after the boost, but still very high.
- Speed Controll. Thunderwave is another useable stratagie to somewhat shut down Xerneas as this allowes you outspeed it and damage it with a slower wallbreaker or general attacker. There also exists the chance to paralyse.
- Tailwind is another less amazing way to shut it down however it can sill be highly notable as anything with more then 100 base speed could potentialy outspeed Xerneas depending on how mutch speed you run ofc, as the majority of people will try to prepair for it with the assumption of maxed out + nature speedy Xerneas, while most people even now just run Modest.
- Trick Room is the third and most notable way of shutting it down as most Xerneases might not run Protect this allowes you to compleatly demolish it without mutch care, this is a very notable thing as it allowes you become the faster poke, or atleast so you think, the majority of people will try to make Primal Groundon + Trick Room work , sadly it's still high speed stat of base 90 is nothing to joke with, luckly for you the far majority of slower pokes can't hurt you that mutch only having pokemon like Camerupt/Gastrodon able to 1HKO you and outslow you notably as those are general Trick Room users.
- For Mega-Rayquaza:
- Strong Priority like Mega Kangaskan's Fake out, Bullet punch and Other Mega Rays Extreem speed can do heavy damage.
- Doubel targeting however is the main answere others are a bit harder to pull off or take the opponant to make a unideal plays.
- Try to spread the EV's into a slightly bulkier form to atleast survive a Life Orb Dragon Ascend, as this allowes you to atleast hit it back, pokemon like Primal Groundon want to stay fully healthy in order to survive a double targeting, however an easy to drop Draco Meteo can 1HKO Primal Groundon, your main win condition.
- Idealy a bulkier pokemon like Cresselia who just happens to be one of the best allies for Primal Groundon can easly turn the table around by Trick Rooming, Thunderwaving or switching the Primal ability on the turn Ray tries to attack Groundon, this will even if the allie of Mega ray attacks Cresselia, it should be able to tank that. swithing the weather can open up megarays flying weakness for your Rock Slide/Stone Edge/ Cress Icebeam allowing you to KO it. 0 SpA Cresselia Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Rayquaza: 112-132 (62.2 - 73.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO, that's not bad.
- Keep in mind Mega ray is the oppoants main wincon if it actualy Mega evolves, it takes up both a restriction slot aswell as the Mega slot, knowing this -> the secundairy mega won't be used, if he does bring it it's most likely goin to be mutch less effective or less scary to worry about.
- Status generaly is easy to think of and is one way, however it should like anything be kept in mind that mega ray could prepair for it with Lum berry to deal with Status.
- Same for Xerneas speed is also important as Tailwind and Trick Room can take most of Rayquaza's possitives away, however strong Extreem speed, turn it needs to be set up and still decent defences aren't to laugh about.
- Out of just these you can conclude:
- Speed controll is highly important aswell as Taun/encore support even without Xerneas, if using Xerneas brining Quick Guard is also highly notable. Brining weather controll techniques including your own weather are highly important . And finaly bringing a team build around your wincondition is the biggest point in VGC 2016. Having a team build around brining your main legend(s), there weather and ways to deal with the opposing legend(s) and weather. This will be very mucth like 2013 and 2010 combined as Weather wars and Legend wars decide the final outcome of the full battle.
- i forgot to include a few things aswell: some unhealthy pressures also exist these include smeargle, smeargle while it's speed tier is horrific it can force too bulky team out even more then they were with just wallbreakers, smeargle needs to rely on Dark Void, a double target move that can easly shut down both the opponants by putting them to sleep, the turn after it can use Transform and change into it's allie while the allie continues attacking as if it was the day after christmas.
- the next turn smeargle can attack exactly the same way as the allie while only needing to worry a little about it's low HP stat and the fact it can't spam dark void anymore.
- Smeargle just like all other of these form (I look at you amoongus P_P) can be shut down with Taunt, locking it into it's single attacking move(if it even has one). This only further encourages the use of Taunt and offencive play styles.
- Don't forget tho that even if it get's supported well for example Mega kangaskan, it can still be answered in a way by using Lum Berry pokemon for example Lum berry on Mega Rayquaza, aswell as only more increasing the viability of pokemon like Crobat to shut down Fake out support.
