  3. I have a word doc full of anime recommendations that I've written. Whenever I see a post asking for them, I open up my word doc and copy-paste. If you want to know my own personal thoughts on these anime series, you can always check my MAL (in my flair):
  4.
  5. [Part 1]
  6.
  7. Afro Samurai is about an action thriller, revenge tale that follows the familiar structure of an anti-hero story. It borrows defining elements found in Blaxploitation films and sticks with the "rule of cool" regarding characters and plot progression. The anime is animated nicely and the fights transition fluidly for the most part. It’s also worth mentioning that the entire anime has a stylish atmosphere mostly because of its western influences.
  8.
  9. Angel Beats provides various anime genres within a supernatural story. To make things simple, people who die are sent to a purgatory-like realm that functions as a regular High School. Personally, I think Angel Beats is simply an okay anime but I can definitely see the appeal with it. This is also a great anime series for those who are fairly new to the anime medium because of the anime tropes it provides to potential viewers.
  10.
  11. Anohana is a coming of age, drama anime with a touch of supernatural storytelling. Featuring a group of childhood friends growing distant over the years because of a tragic childhood event, Anohana excellently captures the strained relationships of friends along with the progressing development of acceptance and maturity.
  12.
  13. Another is a horror mystery anime that closely resembles the Final Destination film series. Although the anime has a few moments of withholding vital pieces of information, Another does a great job with setting the tone and atmosphere for its horror sequences.
  14.
  15. Ao Haru Ride is a romantic-comedy drama anime that emphasizes on the superficiality and relationships of high school students. Futaba Yoshioka is the main female protagonist of the show and she tries her best to be as unladylike as possible. The reason why she is doing this is because she was ostracized by female middle school classmates for looking cute. As a consequence, Futaba is unable to confess her honest feelings toward the main male protagonist, Kou. Ao Haru Ride focuses on these two characters who are now in high school while developing their relationships with other important characters. If you’re a fan of shoujo anime, you’ll most likely enjoy watching this.
  16.
  17. Bakemonogatari is a collection of supernatural narrative arcs with romance and harem storytelling that focuses on Araragi and his interactions with multiple female characters. Visually appealing along with providing interesting dialogue, Bakemonogatari is an unusual yet entertaining anime that manages to take advantage of visual and audio presentation. Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari: Kuro, and Monogatari Series: Second Season (ordered by broadcasting date from earliest to latest) are continuations/ expansions of the events told in Bakemonogatari.
  18.
  19. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is an action comedy, adventure anime about a guy whose name is Bobobo and his gang of other wacky characters. It is absurd yet that’s the charm of the show. The anime takes its ridiculous moments passionately as it provides viewers with entertaining gags and jokes. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is 76 episodes long but most of them are worth watching if you’re interested in an anime series that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
  20.
  21. Haganai is a harem, ecchi, and comedy series about people making friends. The main appeal with this anime is the sexual content behind most of the jokes and gags and if you’re a fan of this form of humor, you’ll most likely have an enjoyable time with Haganai.
  22.
  23. Btooom is an action thriller anime with a fair bit of romance. Also known as “Bomb Art Online,” this anime’s plot features a battle-royale setting that closely resembles the “Btooom!” video game, meaning that the contestants fight to the death using bombs and other game mechanics that resemble closely to that game.
  24.
  25. 5 Centimeters Per Second is a romantic drama anime film that consists of three acts: Cherry Blossom, Cosmonaut, and 5 Centimeters Per Second. The most impressive aspect of this anime is the visual presentation. It’s beautiful. In addition, 5 Centimeters Per Second is able to characterize and develop its major characters within a running time of 60 or so minutes. Because of its length, you can easily finish this film within one day. Many people think that 5 Centimeters Per Second is a depressing anime film. Although I personally disagree with them, I can understand why they view it like that.
  26.
  27. Carnival Phantasm is a parody/ spinoff, comedy anime based on several Type Moon franchises (I recognized characters from the Fate and Tsukihime series). You won’t understand most of the jokes if you’re not familiar with Type Moon and its works. For my case, I was only familiar with the Fate series when I was watching Carnival Phantasm and I was still able to have an enjoyable viewing experience despite having little to no familiarity with Tsukihime. If you only know Fate, you may be able to get some worth out of this anime.
  28.
  29. Chuunibyou is a romantic comedy anime series that has a fair bit of drama. For those who are unfamiliar with it, “chuunibyou” is a syndrome (“eighth grade syndrome”) in which those who are diagnosed with it have delusions of grandeur and/ or supernatural phenomena. Yuuta is a High School student who used to suffer from chuunibyou. Regretful and embarrassed about his past, Yuuta attempts to start a new life by leaving his chuunibyou days behind; however, he meets a female student, Rikka, who is currently suffering from the aforementioned syndrome. The Chuunibyou anime tells the story of their growing relationship along with their interactions with other students.
  30.
  31. Clannad is a romantic comedy series with a fair share of drama. It tells a story of a delinquent who has a rather difficult time appreciating anything about his life. As he was walking to school one day, he meets a rather peculiar girl who will change his life forever. Clannad's first season sets itself up as a harem and it has a familiar premise you've problem read before, however; it mainly serves as a foundation for its better second season, After Story. Clannad: After Story features the same genres as its previous season but it has a heavier focus with drama.
  32.
  33. Code Geass is a mecha thriller, adventure anime set in an alternate universe where the Empire of Britannia controls most of the civilized world. One of the conquered nations is a freedom-less Japan that is now referred as Area 11. The anime follows the exiled Prince of Britannia, Lelouch, who is currently residing in this conquered nation. Lelouch uses his newly gained Geass (a power that grants absolute dominance) to pursue his goal of taking down Britannia, offering an entertaining story that is worth checking out.
  34.
  35. Corpse Party is a horror anime that exercises the use of “gornographic” content. For those who don’t know, gornography is a subgenre that entirely focuses on graphic portrayals of gruesome violence involving massive amounts of blood and gore. In other words, you shouldn’t watch Corpse Party if you don’t like explicit, violent content. This anime is for people who enjoy watching this kind of stuff. A fair warning: Most of the violence is done on High School students.
  36.
  37. Cowboy Bebop is a science fiction adventure anime that is formatted as an episodic series. Set in a futuristic yet familiar universe, the anime focuses on the members of Bebop (a spaceship) who consist of the calm and laid-back Spike Spiegel, the “Black Dog” Jet Black, the mysterious Faye Valentine, the eccentric genius Ed, and a dog. Full of interesting characters and entertaining adventures, Cowboy Bebop is an anime that is worth considering.
  38.
  39. Cross Road is a commercial (I think). If you want to look at something pretty for the next 2 minutes, you should check this out.
  40.
  41. I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying (wow that’s long) is a romantic comedy anime about the daily lives of an office lady and her otaku husband. It’s short and sweet. Yup. Also, it would be wise to watch this anime once you’re familiar with anime, the anime community, and its culture.
  42.
  43. Daily Lives of High School Boys is a comedy anime about the seemingly ordinary lives of students from an all-boys academy. The show is structured as wildly imaginative, episodic skits so don’t expect an overarching and linear narrative. If the anime’s format interests you, you’ll most likely have an enjoyable viewing experience.
  44.
  45. [Part 2]
  46.
  47. Darker Than Black is a supernatural action anime with a fair amount of mystery and investigative story segments. After the massive "Hell's Gate" emerges from modern-day Tokyo, a selected group of people gradually develop super powers that can range from conducting electricity to using one's own blood as a weapon of mass destruction. Consequently, these people have to pay a price in order to use these powers and it can be anything from the obscure to the most appropriate sacrifice. Darker Than Black follows the story of Hei and his associates in an episodic adventure full of action, mystery, and intrigue. There is a reason why he is also known as, "Chinese Electric Batman."
  48.
  49. Death Note is a supernatural detective-fiction anime that also features psychological elements within its plot. One day, Light Yagami stumbles upon a “death note,” a book that allows the author/ owner to kill anyone so long as he or she meets the right circumstances. With this new ability, Light wishes to purge the world by killing every criminal on the planet and declaring himself as a God. The first half of the anime is excellently presented but the second half suffers a bit. Nevertheless, Death Note is a great anime series that will most likely provide an entertaining viewing experience for any anime fan.
  50.
  51. Danmachi is an action adventure, fantasy series that features noticeable amounts of fan-service in a setting that closely resembles a role–playing video game. Keep in mind that the full title of this anime translates to, “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon,” so the fan-service shouldn’t be unexpected. Danmachi is fairly enjoyable despite introducing tropes that are rarely introduced in a refreshing or meaningful manner. This may be bothersome to some viewers but for those who enjoy watching anime tropes, you’ll have a fun time while watching this anime. Episode 8 is a major highlight of the show.
  52.
  53. ef: A Tale of Memories features a seemingly typical, cliche anime romance that offers a surprisingly mature approach to the genre starting with the first episode (episode 1 minor spoilers). It is also brutally honest with what is expected between acquaintances of the opposite sex.
  54.
  55. Elfen Lied is a horror thriller anime with a mixture of drama and romance. My teenage self (oh boy) thought that this anime was an “epic masterpiece” because of the unrestrained blood and gore along with the sexual content that’s spread throughout. Now I have different opinions on this anime. Putting my thoughts aside, Elfen Lied is a fairly enjoyable anime series with decent productions of visuals and sound. My main gripe with the anime’s sound design is that the soundtrack mostly consists of multiple renditions of the song in the opening sequence. It can get tiresome. Even so, the anime is worth watching if you want to watch something violent.
  56.
  57. Ufotable’s Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works is an action fantasy, romance anime about the 5th Holy Grail War, an ancient ritual where mages and their servants fight to the death. Shirou Emiya, the main protagonist, is a participant of this battle-royale who aspires to become a Hero of Justice yet he faces various obstacles that prevent him from reaching this goal. Displaying extravagant action sequences crafted by fantastic visual and sound effects, Fate/Stay Night: UBW is a highly entertaining anime for those who are looking for impressive fantasy battles. Personally, I think it is better for you to watch Fate/Zero before watching Ufotable’s UBW but either starting point offers distinct yet enjoyable viewing experiences.
  58.
  59. Fate/Zero is an action fantasy thriller anime about the 4th Holy Grail War, an ancient ritual where mages and their servants fight to the death. Kiritsugu Emiya, the main protagonist, is a participant of this battle-royale who wishes to save the world by obtaining the Holy Grail. Exhibiting splendid action sequences along with marvelous visual and audio presentation, Fate/Zero is worth your attention. Although Fate/Zero is a prequel to Fate/Stay Night, I personally think it is better for you to watch Fate/Zero before watching Ufotable’s UBW but either starting point offers distinct yet enjoyable viewing experiences.
  60.
  61. Free! is a sports comedy anime with a fair bit of drama here and there. This anime mostly exists for the purpose of providing fan-service for female anime fans or people who’re into dudes with Olympian bodies. When I say Olympian bodies, I’m not joking. These High School students look like Michael Phelps. If you’re into this sort of fan-service, you’re in for a treat. The anime also showcases KyoAni’s usual talent with animation.
  62.
  63. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is a romantic comedy series that focuses on the subversion of anime tropes and cliches. This show takes anime tropes and cliches found in anime geared towards the shoujo target audience. Surprisingly funny and unexpectedly clever with its delivery, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun provides a 12-episode long entertainment between the characters' antics and interactions.
  64.
  65. Golden Time is a romantic comedy drama anime with a hint of supernatural elements. The biggest highlight of this anime is the refreshing and delightful relationship between the two main characters in a college setting. Although there are some issues I have with the anime (especially towards the end), Golden Time is a fun show.
  66.
  67. Guilty Crown is an action fantasy, romance anime that takes place in the near future. Japan is under the control of GHQ, a multinational organization, after the outbreak of the “Apocalypse Virus.” Shu accidently obtains a power that allows him to “extract weapons” from “the hearts of others.” Because of this, a rebel group wishes to use Shu to restore Japan back to an independent nation. While the storytelling is weak, Guilty Crown handles both its visual presentation and sound effects in a dazzling way. For those who want to watch an anime without caring too much about the plot, Guilty Crown is an anime series for you.
  68.
  69. A personal favorite: Gunslinger Girl is an action thriller, drama anime that does a fantastic job with fleshing out characters through appropriate characterization and noteworthy development. The character study on the assassins and their handlers is phenomenal and the anime does a great job with setting a "blissfully innocent" tone that is morbid in reality (there are some elements of tragedy that intertwines with the overall narrative of Gunslinger Girl).
  70.
  71. Halo Legends is a science fiction action anime. The target audience is mainly the Halo fan-base so for people who don't know anything about Halo, all they will be getting is watching an anime adaptation of an American video game series that, on the surface, showcases anime quirks and styles. I suppose another thing an anime fan can enjoy from watching this is recognizing the studios that made their particular episodes. You get to see how each anime studio handles the story and lore of the Halo universe with their known animation techniques and signatures. Now for the Halo fans, the anime series provides additional lore and character backgrounds that they can fully understand and possibly love because they played the games and/or are familiar with outside source materials (books, comics, etc.). One aspect of the show that the target audience and the people outside of that audience may dislike is the lack of an overarching story. Each episode is essentially its own story in the Halo universe so for people expecting a 7-episode storyline, they will be disappointed. Another aspect that may be difficult for viewers to accept (mostly the Halo fans who aren't used to anime) are the "traditional Japanese look" of the Covenant. Despite having some similar traditions and customs (debatable), it was surprising to see the Covenant in some episodes drawn as feudal lords or Samurais. I don't think Halo Legends will convince people to play the Halo games but there are things that both non-Halo and Halo fans can enjoy so long as they are comfortable with it being an anime adaptation.
  72.
  73. [Part 3]
  74.
  75. Hataraku Maou-sama! is a fantasy comedy series with a decent amount of action sequences. The premise is ridiculously hilarious. The Devil King (Sadaou) is beaten by the hero (Emi) so he and one of his loyal generals are forced to escape to another world (our world). In order to conquer our world and teleport back to his, the Devil King begins working as a part-timer in McDonald's MgRonalds. Expressing various forms of comedy including slapstick and hyperbolic humor, Hataraku Maou-sama! is a highly entertaining anime series that is worth watching.
  76.
  77. Higashi no Eden is a mystery thriller anime with a fair bit of romance in the anime's overall narrative. The story is about a college student (Saki) and her involvement with a mysterious, amnesic individual (Akira) who happens to be a participant in a game/ contest where the goal is to save Japan with his digital financial resources (which is a phone that has 8,200,000,000 yen). It's important to note that Akira is not the only participant and it is required for each participant to become the savior of Japan. Otherwise, they risk losing their lives.
  78.
  79. Highschool of the Dead is an action ecchi anime series about a group of kids (plus a school nurse) struggling to survive in a zombie apocalypse. Featuring great visual and audio presentation along with a fantastic English dub (recommended for your viewing), Highschool of the Dead is a very enjoyable anime series that will most likely entertain anime fans who don’t mind the show’s excessive fan-service.
  80.
  81. Higurashi is a psychological horror series for anime fans who want to observe gruesome and violent scenes that mostly involve children. Although the quality of the visuals is inconsistent, Higurashi does a great job with creating suspense and delivering surprises.
  82.
  83. Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de is a fantasy comedy show with storytelling elements found in the harem anime genre. The major characters in Inou-Battle have super powers but they all live in ordinary lives. It’s basically a “slice of life” anime with superpowers. If you’re a fan of “slice of life,” you’ll most likely enjoy Inou-Battle’s comedy routines involving their seemingly mundane lives. If you’re expecting fantasy battles between superheroes, then you’ll end up disappointed.
  84.
  85. K-On! is a slice of life, comedy anime featuring a cast of adorable female characters doing adorable things. This show is the epitome of relaxation. There’s no major conflict, no stress, and no worries. You can simply relax and watch this anime for fun. The story follows Yui and her new friends in the Light Music Club as they do their best to form a proper band while engaging in mundane activities that are surprisingly fun to watch. A reminder to those who are unaware: playing music is not that heavily focused in this show.
  86.
  87. Kantai Collection is an anime adaptation of the popular video game series of the same name. I haven’t played the game myself so I can’t fairly judge how faithful the adaptation is; nevertheless, I am familiar with some of the gameplay mechanics so I understood most of the references. Now, I don’t think it is required for you to play the game beforehand in order to enjoy Kantai Collection so long as you are fairly familiar with the original source material. I normally provide descriptions for any anime’s genres but to be honest, I can’t label this show with anything. Is it an action series? Is it “slice of life”? What is the anime trying to emphasize? Regardless of my difficulty with giving this anime a proper genre, Kantai Collection should mostly be treated as a comedy series, especially since most of its content is “so bad, it’s good.” Even so, there are some moments where Kantai Collection’s delivery of comedy was excellent but from my own personal viewing, I was laughing at the show’s faults rather than genuinely laughing at its comedic material. This anime is worth watching but don’t expect this as some sort of masterful anime series.
  88.
  89. Katanagatari is an action adventure anime series where the seventh successor of the "sword-less" sword art assists a self-proclaimed yet odd "strategist" for her quest to collect all 12 swords that were forged and refined by a legendary swordsmith. One peculiar aspect of Katanagatari is its prolonged episode length of 50 minutes. Following characteristics of an episodic anime series, viewers can expect a fair amount of action, drama, and comedy between the two aforementioned main characters and their interactions with other sword wielders.
  90.
  91. Kill La Kill is an action-ecchi comedy anime about a hot-headed High School girl who is searching for anything that reveals the truth behind her father’s death. Unrestrained with its violent and sexual content, Kill La Kill is an outrageously entertaining anime series that also provides a lively cast of amusing characters.
  92.
  93. Kino’s Journey is a science fiction adventure anime focusing on philosophical storytelling through Kino and Hermes’ journey to different countries. The anime is constructed in an episodic format, which compliments the show’s emphasis on world-building and characterization. Kino’s Journey will most likely interest viewers who seek for thought-provoking audiovisual works.
  94.
  95. Kiseijuu is a modern "super-hero" story with body-horror mixed in. For me, it was fun and I can definitely see the appeal it has for many people. The most appreciable aspect with Kiseijuu’s storytelling is its examination on the symbiotic relationship between the main protagonist, Shinichi, and his parasitic partner, Migi. If you’re interested in an anime series that combines characteristics from both the action and horror genres, you’ll most likely have a good time watching this.
  96.
  97. Koi Kaze is a romance drama anime series that focuses on a controversial topic. The story begins with the male protagonist, Koshiro (27), who was recently dumped by his girlfriend. As he is struggling to recover from this breakup, he meets a female High School student (15) on his way to work. This is all I'm going to say for the anime's premise. Showcasing excellent usage of imagery and crafting effective characterization through visual and audio presentation, Koi Kaze is an anime you should check out despite having the aforementioned controversy.
  98.
  99. Little Witch Academia is a fantasy anime with an excellent mixture of action, adventure, and comedy. Although its duration is close to half an hour, the storytelling remains mostly functional despite having this restriction. The most impressive aspect of Little Witch Academia is its visual presentation. It’s a spectacle throughout. If you’re looking for a refreshing and enjoyable anime about witchcraft and wizardry, you should watch it.
  100.
  101. Madoka Magica is a magical girl anime. It’s better to watch Madoka Magica without knowing too much about the story so all I’m going to say is that you should watch it.
  102.
  103. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei/ The Irregular at Magic High School (also known simply as Mahouka) is an action anime series that combines elements of science fiction and fantasy stories to create a world where magic is commonly recognized as a branch of technological sciences. The biggest appeal for this series is that the main character fulfills the role of a "wish-fulfillment" character in which he has everything a daydreamer wants. Overpowered abilities, PhD-level intelligence (he's a high school student), the admiration of everyone around him (the dude even has a harem), and the identities of multiple roles [including a secret scientist, secret agent (this is the "crime" part), military strategist, Jesus Christ, etc.]. Don't take this show seriously if you want to have an enjoyable viewing experience.
  104.
  105. Mars of Destruction is a science fiction, thriller anime that’s only worth watching if you truly want to know what makes an anime bad.
  106.
  107. [Part 4]
  108.
  109. A personal favorite: Mawaru Penguindrum is a fantasy mystery anime with an excellent mixture of comedy and drama. This anime masterfully presents its thematic elements in a meaningful manner without treating its audience as children. There is enough content to satisfy regular anime viewers but also harbors a lot of details that warrant multiple viewings. The anime's biggest strength is its visual poetry. Almost everything on the frame holds some sort of narrative and story significance that contributes highly to the overall form of the show. It's also important to consider the placement of the characters and objects in the foreground and background planes because even that creative decision is worth analyzing. Another thing I appreciate about Mawaru Penguindrum is that it still retains the identity of an anime series. There are the usual anime quirks and characteristics that any anime fan can easily recognize so it's not a completely foreign work despite having a storytelling structure that's unorthodox in the anime medium. It’s better to watch Mawaru Penguindrum without knowing too much about the story so all I’m going to say is that you should consider it if you want something theatrical and complex.
  110.
  111. Mirai Nikki/ The Future Diary is a fantasy action-thriller anime that features a "Battle Royale" setting. In the anime's universe, the contestants of this "Battle Royale" have their own cellphones that can predict the future and each cellphone has a unique method of making those predictions. The winner of this contest becomes the next God and everyone has their own set of goals for becoming one (making some of these contestants capable of having support from the viewers). This anime is highly recognized for its lead female character, a yandere High School girl named Yuno Gasai, so you may have come across her at some point.
  112.
  113. Neon Genesis Evangelion is a mecha thriller anime series that incorporates elements from the psychological genre in various moments throughout the story. Symbolically meaningful and provocative with its message, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a must-watch anime for anyone who is an anime fan.
  114.
  115. Nisekoi is a romantic comedy, harem anime that is full of anime tropes and clichés. What’s fascinating about Nisekoi is that it heavily devotes itself with accepting all of these tropes and clichés as its major form of entertainment. This dedication is apparent because of the anime’s willingness to present itself as nicely as possible. For example, the soundtrack features one of the finest examples of setting the tone and atmosphere for various comedic and romantic scenarios. I also appreciate the effort given to emphasize the over-exaggerated jokes and gags regarding the main character’s interactions with all of the major female characters. If you don’t mind anime tropes, Nisekoi is worth your time.
  116.
  117. No Game No Life is a fantasy adventure, comedy anime series with a noticeable amount of ecchi elements in its narrative. The show, in my point of view, is not meant to be taken seriously and it does a wonderful job to remind the audience about this. Featuring a great cast of characters and hilarious comedic sequences, No Game No Life will most likely entertain those who want to watch non-serious anime series.
  118.
  119. Noragami is a fantasy action, comedy anime about Yato, a God who wants to become a popular and well-respected deity. For the most part, the action sequences are fun to watch and the show is surprisingly funny when it tries to be. Kofuku is a major highlight among the cast of characters introduced in Noragami.
  120.
  121. Please Teacher is a science fiction anime series that combines the romance, drama, and comedy genres. Kei is a male High School student who encounters a female alien, Mizuho. It is later revealed that the alien is his teacher but due to unfortunate circumstances, Kei is forced to marry Mizuho. The anime is fairly old but the art style is nice to look at. Please Twins is a “sequel” (spin-off is more appropriate) to Please Teacher but it rarely shows any elements of science fiction.
  122.
  123. NouCome is a harem ecchi, comedy anime about a male High School student, Kanade, who suffers from a curse where he is forced to select a choice. If he doesn’t choose, he will experience a severe headache. One day, Kanade makes a choice where a blonde, mysterious girl falls on top of him. Most of the comedy sequences and gags are inappropriate sex jokes but the anime presents them in an entertaining way.
  124.
  125. Plastic Memories is a science fiction anime series that combines the romance, drama, and comedy genres. Tsukasa is an 18-year-old male protagonist who begins working at the SAI Corporation after failing his college entrance exams. His job is to meet and recover Giftias (androids essentially) right before they reach their expiration date. The story focuses on Tsukasa’s job and his partnership with a female Giftia named Isla. Despite being disappointed with the anime as a whole, Plastic Memories does a decent job with its overall presentation and the themes that serve as its foundation.
  126.
  127. Plastic Nee-san is simply a comedy. Think of it as a Chuck Jone’s cartoon except it embraces immature humor while combining anime tropes and styles (okay, I guess it’s not exactly like a Chuck Jone’s cartoon). Although there are twelve episodes, each episode lasts for around 2 minutes. You can definitely finish this work of art within a day unless if you somehow grow bored of it. In the end, Plastic Nee-san is a fairly short gag-fest that will most certainly make you laugh at least once.
  128.
  129. Pokemon: The Origin is an action adventure, fantasy anime series of 4 episodes. Are you tired of Ash Ketchum and his long journey to become the Pokemon master? If so, this anime is perfect for you! Ash is now replaced by the iconic “Red,” the original video game character, and he’s a much more talented Pokemon trainer than everyone else! Don’t expect a masterfully crafted anime series because the 4 episode restriction hampers this show’s potential. Regardless, it is a fun anime to watch and quickly finish.
  130.
  131. Psycho-Pass is a science fiction, detective thriller set in a future where a nation-wide (or possibly world-wide) system can determine a person's mental state along with his or her emotions and possible actions. This system is heavily used for law-enforcement and the main character is a policewoman working as an inspector. The main villain opposes this system and you can easily identify and understand his reasoning for doing so as you watch this anime.
  132.
  133. Pupa is a horror drama anime series that is generally panned by anime fans. To be honest, I don’t think it’s that bad of an anime (but not that good either) and I think people should give it a chance (only for the uncensored version). If you’re not convinced, here is a review explaining my overall thoughts on Pupa.
  134. https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/3exzel/some_minor_spoilers_pupa_review_an_inconsistent/
  135.
  136. Rosario Vampire is a romantic comedy anime series that undoubtedly presents itself as an ecchi and harem show. Tsukune, the main character, is unable to attend any “Human” High School. Consequently, he is accidentally admitted to Youkai Academy, a High School attended by monsters, and he meets all sorts of attractive female students who want to {worship his dick} be his friend. If you want to relax and watch an anime series full of fan-service and a succubus whose tits make jiggly noises almost every episode, Rosario Vampire is definitely for you.
  137.
  138. Saekano is a romantic comedy series that heavily relies on subverting and embracing anime tropes and cliches found in the harem and ecchi genre. Featuring an excellent cast of characters (Tomoya and Megumi especially), finely framed and mostly detailed animated sequences, and well-thought out writing, Saekano will most likely provide a fresh experience for those who are looking for one.
  139.
  140. Sakurasou is a romantic comedy drama that revolves around a High School student name Sorata. After getting into trouble, Sorata ends up living in the Sakurasou dormitory, which houses problem children from his school. Shiina moves into Sakurasou one day and it surprises Sorata that a seemingly normal girl would reside in this dorm; however, he finds outer fairly soon that Shiina, although a master artist, can’t take care of herself whatsoever. The anime focuses on Sorata’s character growth along with his relationship and interactions with the “pet girl” of Sakurasou. A rare sight to see, Sakurasou mostly manages to combine comedy and drama in a seamless blend of entertainment and appeal.

  144. Samurai Champloo is set in a hip-hop inspired, Edo-era Japan. If this isn’t enough to convince you to watch this anime, I’ll continue. Samurai Champloo is an action adventure anime series focusing on a group of three characters looking for a samurai “who smells of sunflowers.” This anime is mostly episodic but it does a fine job with keeping continuity regarding story events, character motivations, etc. The biggest appeal with Samurai Champloo is its ambient soundtrack. It is fantastic (here’s a sample). In addition, the action sequences are mostly well-drawn and animated with little to no hiccups. What’s more impressive is the contrast between the major male characters, Mugen (hot-headed, thoughtless, rash) and Jin (calm, traditional, proper). All of their interactions are fun to witness and it significantly contributes to my overall enjoyment with the anime. Samurai Champloo is definitely worth checking out.

  146. Attack on Titan is a fantasy action thriller anime set in a world where humans were close to reaching extinction because of the humanoid titans. In the beginning of the show, humans haven’t seen a titan in over 100 years. Needless to say, that changes very quickly. Demonstrating its ability to create intense action sequences, Attack on Titan is most likely capable of entertaining anime fans who love action.

  148. A personal favorite: Shinsekai Yori is a science fiction, psychological thriller anime created by the animation studio A-1 Pictures. Emotionally gripping and provocative with its moral stances, Shinsekai Yori delivers a 25-episode journey focusing on Saki (main character) and her friends' interactions with the utopian-like society they are residing in.

  150. Shirobako is a comedy drama anime that tells the story of Aoi and her work/ involvement in an anime studio. Featuring fine examples of editing and the mostly balanced combination of comedy and drama storytelling, Shirobako is a 2-cour anime series that will most likely provide an enjoyable viewing experience.
  151.
  152. Steins;Gate is a science fiction, thriller anime about the unusually mundane affairs of a self-proclaimed “Mad Scientist” and the members of his “laboratory.” Featuring fantastic visual and audio presentation along with effective and purposeful storytelling, Steins;Gate is an anime worth watching and completing.
  153.
  154. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a science fiction comedy anime featuring a wonderful cast of characters like the eccentric and unpredictable Haruhi Suzumiya and the cynical yet curious Kyon. Hilarious and fun to watch, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is worth your time and it will most certainly entertain anyone looking for a refreshing anime set in a High School environment.

  156. Sword Art Online is a fantasy action, romance anime. To me, SAO's setting and story premise are interesting aspects of the anime that have been handled differently than I expected. Although I was disappointed with my experience with SAO's storytelling and narrative, there are other things this anime can offer to you as a viewer. For my case, I thought the music was handled well, especially for the fighting sequences. Most of the time, the soundtrack blends in nicely to help indicate the type of mood the audience should be feeling and I also appreciate the effort given by the composer(s) and players for creating individual tracks that can work outside of the anime (listening to the music while working out, doing homework, etc.). The most impressive thing SAO can offer is providing engaging battles that are, for the most part, wonderfully animated with flashy effects. Everything from sound design, animation quality, and music are nicely packed into these scenes and this is what I look forward to the most as I was watching each episode. If you're in the mood to watch anime that focuses more on its storytelling and overall narrative, I would advise you to watch something else for the time-being. If you want to watch an entertaining action show with wonderfully presented animated sequences, you should give SAO a chance.

  158. Gurren Lagann is a mecha adventure anime series that is unlike any other show. The first thing you might immediately notice is the unusual yet interestingly unique art style (or the girl wearing the bikini, who knows?). This isn’t the most intriguing thing from the anime, however. Gurren Lagann’s major highlight is its passion for remaining spiritually positive and defying all expectations and logical reasoning. It is a highly enjoyable anime that also features one of the most exciting action sequences in the mecha genre.

  160. Tokyo Ghoul is an action horror anime series with a noticeable amount of psychological storytelling elements. Tokyo Ghoul follows Kaneki’s involvement in a world where humans and ghouls exist. Ghouls are humanoid beings that can only satiate their hunger by eating human flesh. Kaneki unfortunately becomes half-human and half-ghoul after an accident so the story focuses on his growth as an individual who lives as both species. Because of Kaneki’s ghoulish characteristics, he cannot eat regular food sources anymore. The anime’s biggest strength is the sound design. The music reinforces suspense and tension, the voice-acting is noteworthy, and the sound effects were mostly utilized in a seemingly authentic manner. Although I have some issues with Tokyo Ghoul’s overall presentation, it’s an anime series that’s worth watching. I haven’t seen Root A yet so I cannot comment anything about it.

  162. My Little Monster is a romantic comedy anime series that provides a refreshing start with its story when compared to other romantic comedy stories within the anime medium. Although this anime’s art style borrows characteristics from a shoujo anime, it manages to look fairly unique because of its coloring. Haru and Shizuku’s relationship and interactions are a major highlight of this anime. It’s also worth mentioning that Natsume’s general peculiarity offers plenty of hilarious moments throughout the anime’s narrative.
  163.
  164. Toradora! is a romantic comedy anime about two misunderstood High School students. Ryuuji, the male protagonist, is a gentle and responsible student but he unfortunately looks like a delinquent. Taiga, the female protagonist, is rash and violent despite having understandable reasons for having this behavior (she’s a tsundere). By chance, Ryuuji’s love interest is Taiga’s best friend, Minori, while Taiga’s love interest is Ryuuji’s best friend, Yuusaku. The two agree to assist one another with becoming closer to their individual High School crush. Wonderfully presented and surprisingly well written, Toradora is an excellent anime series for those who want to experience a touching romantic comedy that handles drama appropriately.
  165.
  166. Oregairu is a romantic comedy drama that does an excellent job with providing social commentary on High School culture and the drama that ensues within that environment. Providing brilliant usage of literary techniques through visual and audio cues, Oregairu is a wonderful anime series that is worth your attention. Oregairu 2 is a continuation of the first season except that it focuses more on the drama aspect of the anime. Even so, the second season is able to conserve the comedy writing from the first season appropriately by providing additional inner monologues of the main character (Hachiman) along with the introduction of a new female character (Iroha).
  167.
  168. Yuru Yuri is a comedy series that mostly consists of middle school girls doing random things. Featuring a fair bit of Yuri and "slice-of-life" writing elements, Yuru Yuri provides surprising entertainment despite appearing as a "generic" anime series. Toshinou Kyouko and her antics are a major highlight of this show.
