  1. Midnight Getaway
  2. A one-shot Star VS the Forces of Evil Fan-Fic
  3. by SeriouslyThough
  4. Characters: Marco, Janna, Star (minor)
  5. 1,508 words
  6.
  7. Night time in Echo Creek was rather quiet. That is, aside from the sound of the wind blowing through trees, as well as the odd passing car. That was mostly all one could hear at this hour. Although someone with a good ear could probably pick out people sneaking around in the dark.
  8.
  9. No such sounds bothered Marco Diaz, however. The only gateway for outside noise, his bedroom window, had been shut. This allowed the young teenage boy to focus on trying to get some rest, which was something he really needed. However, someone had other plans in mind for him...
  10.
  11. *tap tap tap*
  12.
  13. Marco turned in his bed, his eyes slowly opening to glance at the source of the sound. It seemed to come from his window, but nothing seemed to be there. He closed his eyes and went back to trying to sleep.
  14.
  15. *tap tap tap*
  16.
  17. No, there was definitely something there. His eyes went wide open as he glared at the window. And yet, he saw nothing still. Alert, he decided to make his way to the window to survey the area. Again, not a trace of anything suspicious. But as he walked back to his bed...
  18.
  19. *TAP TAP TAP*
  20.
  21. The tapping seemed to have gotten impatient, and so was Marco. He walked over to his window, opened it swiftly, and shouted out:
  22.
  23. "Okay, whoever's doing that, cut it out--"
  24.
  25. He was cut off by someone grabbing him by his pajama shirt's collar and kissing him right on the lips. He pulled away in shock, and saw who was behind the ruckus. It was Janna. She was standing right outside Marco's window, on the roof.
  26.
  27. "Might wanna keep it down, perhaps?" She said with a wry smile.
  28.
  29. "You're one to talk, what with all the window tapping! And anyway WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" He whispered at her.
  30.
  31. "Can't a girl pop over to see her boyfriend?"
  32.
  33. "No, I mean why are you on the roof? It's dangerous, you could fall and hurt yourself!"
  34.
  35. Marco had a point. The roof slanted downwards, which would make it a rather unsafe place to stand. Normally, at least. Janna let out a chuckle.
  36.
  37. "Relax, Safe Kid! I have suction cup boots!" Janna motioned to her boots, which did indeed have suction cups on their soles. "They're quite helpful in a pinch!"
  38.
  39. However, as she tried to lift her right foot, one of the boot's cup remained stubbornly stuck to the roof's shingle, causing her to lose her balance. Marco swiftly grabbed her hands to stop her from falling.
  40.
  41. "You were saying?" Marco quipped, half-mockingly.
  42.
  43. "Just help me get inside." Janna grumbled.
  44.
  45. Marco held on to the sneaky girl's arm for her safety while she forced her boot's persistent suction cups off the roof's shingle. Janna then crawled through the window and hopped onto the floor.
  46.
  47. The Safe Kid gave a quick glance at the girl who had just stepped into his room. She was wearing her usual outfit: a turquoise jacket over an olive green shirt, a beanie which matched her shirt's coloring, and a yellow skirt. Her suction cup boots were pale green, and had two cups on each foot: one on the back and one in the front.
  48.
  49. A strong gust of wind burst in, giving Marco some chills. Janna, meanwhile, seemed unaffected. He shut the window as quietly as he could, and then pondered how Janna could even withstand such cold weather only wearing a skirt. Shaking that train of thought away, he asked the girl in question what she had in mind tonight. Rarely did Janna ever show up at this hour without having some mischief in mind.
  50.
  51. "I was thinking maybe we could go out somewhere! You've been so busy as of late, and I miss messing with you!"
  52.
  53. "Well... it's kind of late for that right now..." Marco remarked as he quickly glanced at his alarm clock. It was 12:04.
  54.
  55. "It's never too late to have fun! Especially not with..." Janna pulled out something from her jacket... "These!"
  56.
  57. She held up Star's dimensional scissors. Janna beamed with pride as she showed them off, while Marco was horrified.
  58.
  59. "You took those from Star?!" Marco could barely keep his voice down because of the shock. He began stammering: "When? H-How?!"
  60.
  61. "I made a pit stop before coming here." Janna said with a grin as she recalled the events that had just transpired.
  62.
  63. A few minutes ago, Janna had taken a detour to the medieval tower that protruded from the Diaz residence. With careful scaling, she was able to reach the window that led into Star's room. The intruder swiftly made her way around the large room, trying to find Star's elusive dimension-travelling crafting tool. She managed to find it on Star's nightstand. After sneaking over, she reached for the scissors, when suddenly...
  64.
  65. "Janna? What are you doing?" Star mumbled, her eyes half open.
  66.
  67. Janna froze. She struggled to think of what to respond.
  68.
  69. "Err... I was borrowing your scissors! Is that okay?"
  70.
  71. Star remained silent for a moment as she glanced over to Janna's hand, which was stretched out to grab her dimensional scissors. She looked back at Janna, who sported a worried smile.
  72.
  73. "Sure, okay." She said jovially before promptly falling back to sleep and snoring loudly.
  74.
  75. Janna was surprised at how casually Star accepted the idea, but was nonetheless glad it hadn't gone south. She had quickly made her way back out the window and snuck over to Marco's room. And now, there they were.
  76.
  77. "Star really just let you grab her dimensional scissors?" Marco responded after Janna had told him what had gone down, " I really should be more surprised than I am..."
  78.
  79. "Well, I guess she trusts me!" Janna remarked with a smile.
  80.
  81. "Do you even know how to use them?" Marco asked her.
  82.
  83. "Sure I do!" Janna lied, trying to keep her composure, "You just go... snippity snip snip!" And she snipped the scissors in the air. "...right?"
  84.
  85. A rift then opened where she cut the air, which made Janna grin with excitement at her accomplishment. Her joy was quickly shoved aside, though; a monstrously large arm came through the rift and smashed the wooden floor with its fist. Janna jumped back in surprise, holding back a yelp. Marco promptly shoved the arm back into the rift, swiped the scissors from Janna's hands, and undid the rift with them. He glared at her with annoyance. Janna looked away, embarrassed.
  86.
  87. "Okay, you got me. I don't know how to use them. I was hoping you'd teach me or something..."
  88.
  89. "Janna, it's midnight!" Marco's exasperation could be heard in his voice. "I have a big test tomorrow, I don't have time for this!"
  90.
  91. "You have time for Star..." Janna mumbled.
  92.
  93. "Actually I didn't even have time to hang out with her! I've been spending literally every night of the past week cramming for tomorrow's exam! It's worth like 85% of the final grade, I mean seriously what kind of crap is that?!" Marco began going off on a tangent about how unfair it was for a single exam to be worth this large a portion of the overall grade. However, he realized he was rambling and stopped. He went to sit down on his bed and looked at the ground.
  94.
  95. "Look, I'm sorry I don't have more time to spend with you. This stupid exam is making me go nuts! I really don't want to have to redo this class again..."
  96.
  97. "You've really been having a hard time, huh..." Janna said as she sat down next to Marco.
  98.
  99. He glanced at her with a "no, really?" look, but softened up quickly. Janna then proposed something:
  100.
  101. "Tell you what, how about we just go on a quick trip somewhere? No more than 30 minutes, and I'll bring you right back here afterwards so you can still have your beauty sleep. Whaddya say?"
  102.
  103. Marco looked at the floor, and spent a moment to think. He really needed to get some rest, but at the same time the exam was making that very difficult to do. He looked back to Janna, who was staring at him, awaiting a response.
  104.
  105. "Snippity snip snip?" She said with a smile as she waved the scissors around, having somehow swiped them from his grasp while he was distracted.
  106.
  107. Marco couldn't help but smile back. He knew that being worked up over the exam was not going to help him at all. And it seemed Janna knew that too.
  108.
  109. "Alright, fine. Only 30 minutes though!" He said dryly.
  110.
  111. "I knew you'd agree!" Janna smirked as she handed the scissors back to Marco, "Wanna do the honors?"
  112.
  113. "Nah, you can do it. Just think of a place and then cut." Marco instructed. Janna's eyes lit up immediately as she thought of a place.
  114.
  115. "Ooh I know! Let's go to a monster graveyard!" Janna cackled as she snipped a rift open, and dragged Marco in with her.
  116.
  117. It was bound to be quite an interesting night-before-the-exam, that's for sure.
