  2. Give me something to work with because I can't even describe Amande to you in terms of personality, let alone tell you why he makes the story better by being in it
  3. In a metanarrative sense, Lilac is necessary for providing the bitter, reactionary response to god-like beings and their role falling short of what someone like her would think they need. She provides a character executed in a unique and memorable way, just by way of being effectively disabled in several different ways and struggling to cope with and and overcome that.
  4. In a metanarrative sense, Red is necessary by way of providing an initially relatable character in terms of presentation, before we highlight his shortcomings in the form of things like his rather unsightly selfishness, and have this in itself generate actual and tangible tension.
  5. In a metanarrative sense, Celia is literally the link the main characters have to the morally ambiguous nature of divinity

  9. Solacia is maybe extraneous to the central themes for a majority of TL but she shows up and literally provides her own, with the entire personal dynamic of the Overloader
  10. and all the things about foisting all this responsibility onto herself
