Clearly they don't have much knowledge of Islam on a geopolitical scale.

Jizya is groundbreaking because not only did it bring economical success to the Dynasty, but it also brought benefit to those who payed, They had full protection from the military and Government for a price smaller than the Zakat, it does not make sense to tax someone with a small amount if you want to humiliate them.

Source. This problem is easily solved if this young man just moves to a country like Egypt that has many unmarried Muslim women.
