  1. 1 & 1 ionos bought my webhosting company and moved my website to a server in China
  2. My web hosting company for the last 2 1/2 years has been GeekGhost located in Tampa Bay, FL. 1 & 1 ionis bought them out several months a go and I cringed since from previous research I knew this was probably gonna turn out bad for me.

  23. Has anybody ever heard of this? I have e-mailed support asking for my website to be moved back to the United States. Latency is killing my load time and my static websites are regional and really only for the Southeast. I find this insane and plan on leaving very soon unless they move my website back. Why would a web hosting company do something so dumb ?

  25. Not sure where you are getting this info but it is entirely wrong. Still in Tampa and on HVVC which is Hivelocity which is a big dedicated server provider. Not at a 1&1 facility at all.

And since it is taking 12 seconds to load a static site supposedly from a server in Florida and I am in Georgia is further evidence. My site was recently migrated and before this migration my website loaded in less than 2 seconds.

  64. That's because it's pulling an error from the DB-IP database. Other IP location sites show it correctly in Florida. Have a look here: https://www.iplocation.net

  66. If you're still not convinced do a Google search for "lookingglass miami" and do a trace from some of the network providers. One example, if you pick Telia's looking glass and ask it to trace from Hong Kong to your IP it jumps straight back to the USA then goes through Dallas and Atlanta to Miami. That's not the way to China from Hong Kong.

  69. There's no such thing as an unmanaged server - It's actually self-managed. Worth remembering next time you're looking for someone to complain to.

  106. You're right. 1 & 1 ionos did not buy GeekGhost. Online Payments Inc bought them. I received the communication when they were bought but didn't look close since I work 2 jobs and it was the holidays. 1 & 1 ionos sent me a package I never opened and assumed it was them who bought it. I used 1 & 1 ionos once for a domain name just to try them out since they were so cheap.

  108. This is a hobby. And I remember reading this forum 2 1/2 years ago about the peril of EIG buying a company out and then everything declining in performance. So I assumed the worse. My website was loading really slow and I notice that it had become a pattern. So I went to hostingchecker website which was the top result on Google and entered my website and it came back with a data center in China with my IP. I searched the web some more and wonder if it had anything to do with anycast. I have zero technical experience in this field.

  110. Like I said this is a hobby so I assumed the worse after the top search result for my query gave me this information in addition to the poor performance on a static website. I opened a ticket with Geek Ghost. The performance of my website dramatically approved last night. It has always loaded fast due to a simple static website. With the answers given on this thread and performance back up I am satisfied.
