  26. One day, the water chip in Vault 13 started to fail. Now, you see, the water chip is very important to the Vault, because without it there's no way to filter the water, and the vault's fail-safes shut down the system for repair, leaving the residents without potable water.
  27.
  28. One day, a resident of the Vault woke up with memory of his past lives in his head and headed for the door. There was little enough keeping him tied there, after all - he was living an empty life alone, either working in Vault logistics or listening to the same damned music he'd heard every day as far back as he could remember, but today he felt very different. He set down his tools, packed a few choice items, and walked out of the vault without so much as a word said to anyone else, the first person to leave the vault. As to how he unsealed the vault, either no one knew, or no one was talking.
  29.
  30. One day, rumors started of a man in the California wasteland, wearing leather armor and wielding a bow and arrow of all things, and carrying a sword. This wasn't of particular interest initially, of course. As far as anyone cared, he was just another crazy wastelander, until super mutants began to wage their campaign against normal human beings. At which point suddenly dead super mutants began showing up with arrows through their eye sockets. The rumors took a turn from there, and only grew after the town of Adytum - a hive of slaver scum - was abruptly depopulated in the Archer's signature manner. At least, the slavers were - the slaves were freed, given food of shockingly high quality, and seen back to their homes safely. In time, the city was resettled by individuals with a different mindset than its previous occupants.
  31.
  32. One day, the Vault Dweller came forth to get a new water chip for his vault, and in the end was able to stop the Master from overrunning the wastelands with super mutants before he returned to his home. The more violent of the stragglers from the Master's army were ended by clearly alternate means by the Archer, who had graduated to using arrows with a shaft as thick as one's arm. Every last trace of FEV that the Master had at his disposal was incinerated, a pillar of black smoke stretching miles into the sky, one summer day.
  33.
  34. One day, years after the Vault Dweller had been exiled from Vault 13, leaving his mark on the wasteland and beginning the foundations of the village of Arroyo, a stranger showed up on an oil rig off the coast of California. What he did and the gifts he gave there laid the foundation of what shaped the wastelands for decades to follow.
