- JS Shinano is a Shinano-class Aviation Battleship in service with the JMSDF. Laid down mid 1969. Introduced to replace the rapidly aging JS Nara in the naval gunfire support role, and to provide limited air superiority and CAS for amphibious operations, the Shinano quickly proved her value as a gunnery platform and support vessel, thanks to her large guns and V/STOL Harrier fighters, although her initial ad-hoc helicopter wing did not earn her much praise.
