  1. The Woes of The Urgle - Techwrek
  2.
  3. Dark....
  4. A cold damp atmosphere....
  5. I feel cold.....
  6. I....feel...?
  7.
  8. Light....
  9. I feel....alive......?
  10.
  11. I feel! But what does it mean to feel? Perhaps it means to taste, to touch, to smell, to see!
  12. But what are these things? They're so new and complex to me! Me...
  13.
  14. What am I?
  15.
  16. I don't know yet, but perhaps I will soon find out. My eyes open, and at last I see my creator!
  17. But they look upon me in horror! Why must they do such a thing? I cannot see myself, but they call me a monster.
  18. My creator leaps to their feet as I move. They scream in terror, and they run.
  19.
  20. I am alone in this cold, dimly lit room. I move around to look, slithering off of a wood table.
  21. There are many tools attached to this table. A saw, a needle, a thread, several syringes, a source of electricity...
  22. I now move around the room, and I see different tables, shelves, bottles of sickly substances...
  23. I must leave this place. I want to see more life!
  24.
  25. A portal...
  26. Where will it take me? Hopefully to a place better than where I am now.
  27.
  28. I pass through the portal, and I feel a warmth sweep under my body. I see a brightness, greater than any I could
  29. imagine. I see the ocean shimmer, and its waves rush
  30. towards me. The moist sand beneath my skin is a sensation like no other. I turn around to behold a green forest
  31. full of life. Oh what a joy life is!
  32.
  33. And look! Inhabitants of the forest! I tried to approach, but as soon as the inhabitants saw me, I realized how unwanted I really was.
  34.
  35. The inhabitants cried out and rushed towards me. Soon arrows began to rain from the sky, some landing beside me, others finding their target. I finally
  36. found a secluded wood to hide in, and my assailants finally gave up their chase. But why would they attack me?
  37.
  38. It had dawned on me that I had not yet seen myself. Was I so hideous that they would attack me for no reason? I had to be sure. I
  39. quickly moved about, searching for a near body of water. After some searching, I found a pond. I slowly edged towards the pond...
  40.
  41. And I myself screamed in horror.
  42.
  43. Dread swept through my body as I saw my horrible figure. My scarred pink and white flesh appeared freshly sewn together.
  44. My skin appeared dry and loose, and several parts of my muscle was exposed.
  45. My flesh...is this even my flesh? My body appeared to be made of different parts from different bodies! And my
  46. eyes! My eyes were the most evil part of my body! They were much larger in size, and they were bloodred.
  47.
  48. I wept bitterly. Who would damn someone to a fate like mine? Why did I deserve to live such an
  49. unfortunate life? Why would someone make something so hideous, and give them such powerful emotions!? I wanted love, but could I find
  50. any with such a disfigured countenance? I wanted to be merry, but who would share merriment with such a horrifying monster?
  51.
  52. .......
  53.
  54. WHAT KIND OF CRUEL MASTER WOULD CONDEMN A CREATURE LIKE ME TO SUCH A WRETCHED FATE!?
  55.
  56. I wept more, for I could not answer any of these.
  57.
  58. And then all went dark.
  59.
  60.
  61. I suddenly came to, and I found myself strung by a net over a pit of fire.
  62. My head felt sore, and I felt fresh blood trickling from my scalp. My blurred vision was finally coming to focus, and I took in my surroundings with great fear. Several figures gathered around
  63. me, and they were dancing wildly. At first, I was terrified of death, but I realized that I would rather die than live the rest of my life unloved. Suddenly the chanting ceased. A hooded figure came forward. They moved like a shadow,
  64. hovering forward towards the flame. They stopped just before me, and they yelled with a great, deep voice:
  65.
  66. "O ORYX, OUR MAD GOD, THOU WHO IS DIVINE IN ALL WAYS, WHAT DOST THOU WISH UPON OUR HUMBLE OFFERING?"
  67.
  68. Ah, so I'm an offering to their god. I was glad, for my life was to be a short one.
  69. The hooded figure remained silent for a while, and then they spoke again:
  70.
  71. "... O ORYX, IS THIS TRULY THY CREATION? WHAT IS THINE PURPOSE FOR SUCH A WRETCHED CREATURE?"
  72.
  73. A slight murmur went through the throng, and now I was curious myself. Was I made by a god?
  74. Silence once more. The hooded figure stood still. Then, he spoke once more:
  75.
  76. "... I SEE. SO YOU TASKED THE DOCTOR TO CREATE A WEAPON. MOST EXCELLENT, YOUR MAJESTY."
  77.
  78. The fire below me was suddenly swallowed up from the earth, and the net around me fell. The hooded figure now addressed the crowd. "GREAT WARRIORS OF ORYX,
  79. THIS IS THE MAD GOD'S NEW CREATION: THE URGLE!"
  80.
  81. .... A what???
  82.
  83. "THE URGLE HAS BEEN CONDEMNED TO WANDER THE BARREN HIGHLANDS, AND HIS ONLY USE IS TO DESTROY ORYX'S ENEMIES!"
  84.
  85. And so I was forced into the highlands, a dreadful plains that was riddled with plagues and monstrosities. I had been banished to this land,
  86. and I was left to wander alone. I had never hated my life so much, but now it was all clear to me. I was a weapon, a tool for the mad god's whims.
  87.
  88. Such a hatred fed into a lust for blood, and so I gave in to the whims of the mad god. I gave in
  89. to his design, and I murdered the weak and naive people that would be foolish enough to rush to the highlands. If I was a weapon, then I would
  90. show no mercy, since my maker showed me none. I am the Urgle, a monstrosity whose countenance was the most hideous, and I seek to kill any
  91. whose gaze would fall on my ugliness.
