Professor Yamane came from behind and recognized the indentation as
the print of a gigantic foot. “Oh my!!” He stared hard at the print, then
hopped inside. “Hagiwara, would you believe me if I were to tell you that
this is the footprint of an animal?”
“Are you serious?!” Hagiwara’s eyes glittered with surprise.
Shinkichi, who was standing next to him, glared at him as if to ask, “And
you didn’t believe us, did you?”
“Look here. If all this damage was from a landslide, we’d expect to see a
pile of dirt and gravel somewhere over here.” Shinkichi, Emiko, Hagiwara,
and the others nodded and looked at a rock outcropping the professor was
pointing to. Here and there, one could see bare earth. In the middle was a
fallen tree and roof that had been squashed flat.
