  1. When the Empire of Barsburg set their sights upon the entirety of Esshar, the Teraphim deigned not to assist the other kingdoms into exterminating the threat. However, they defended their own territory. Savael Elarian was a Mistseer and military advisor to the High Lord Randor. Many frown his methods of war, due to his willingness to sacrifice countless lives for a battle to be won.
  2.
  3. The Battle of Fort Calarel, for instance, remains his most controversial military action.
  4.
  5. Close to the eastern border of Myllenoris, watching over an important route of trade, stood Fort Calarel belonging to the Teraphims. Taking control of the fort would allow an army to cut off an easy path leading to the Teraphim's kingdom and would cause traders to use an alternate route. The alternate would give them weeks of travel instead of a few days worth. Theria lead an army to this route which would allow them to flank and continually harass an advancing Barsburg military detachment. However, for the Teraphim, that meant a hit on their already scarce supplies for a war they did not wish to involve with.
  6.
  7. Savael Elarian, military advisor to the High Lord, while commanding a border defense against Barsburg, caught wind of Therian movement. Theria would reach Fort Calarel in a couple of days, according to a scout's account, and if they were to abandon their post and sacrifice territory; it will take them only but a day. The few hundred Teraphims, though can theoretically stand until enemy supplies run out had retreated. They left tracks of their movements; leading the advancing Barsburg to Fort Calarel.
  8.
  9. In order to avoid arousing any suspicion, the Greycloak rallied the remaining hundreds of Teraphims against the twice bigger number of Barsburg - to their deaths. However, a messenger was sent away to seek for reinforcement.
  10.
  11. Many died and all but a wounded dozen remained from the Teraphim's side. While they were able to hold out for a day, it was enough to draw out Theria's army. And as the Therian advanced, they witnessed the sacking of Fort Calarel; countless corpses on the ground, mostly of Teraphim.
  12.
  13. The equal sized armies clashed and many more bodies littered the ground. And as the battle was coming to a close, a cavalry of Valeborne surrounded and killed off what remained. Those who survived were taken prisoners of war. However, within the political circle, many believes that the strategy was a failure, and the sacrifice of many lives were unnecessary.
  14.
  15. Post-War
  16.
  17. "How dreadful it is for our existence to be threatened. Oh, far too many beyond the walls of Myllenoris, do they look upon us with envy and wrath," said High Lord Randor as he gazed up on the moon, leaning against the flowery wooden rails of a bridge, arching over a tiny pond.
  18.
  19. Savael tipped his chin, following the High Lord's eye, pale features illuminated white by the translucent radiance of the moon.
  20.
  21. "The war is over and yet our people suffer the aftermath," Savael said, though he expressed it so calmly, the High Lord smiled; sensing disgust and anger. "A war started and forced upon us over the greed and hubris of humans."
  22.
  23. "And your words laced with the same poison haunting those same men," said the High Lord, explaining that by such frame of thoughts, they would be no better than their enemies they deem inferior.
  24.
  25. "We've done enough, perhaps even more than enough, to show them we can be cruel if need be," Randor said and straightened his back, patting his sleeves, before grasping both hands behind his waist.
  26.
  27. "While I appreciate your advice of clearing those mercenaries with blood. It is time to be civil," he continued and turned around, facing the Mistseer's direction, referring as a metaphor to the balance of the realm; the teachings of the Overseer Archea.
  28.
  29. However, that night was the last night they spoke, for the High Lord met his untimely death.
  30.
  31. Now faced with a future of uncertainty, the Mistseer must make sure Myllenoris is prepared for war; for the preservation of the Teraphim and beyond.
