truck drive back up

   3am: A large rig pulls into truck stop, three men exit out a hidden door in the back as three other men come from a nearby rig to replace them. As one of the men climbs aboard, inside he sees a thin path down the center with boxes and equipment along the walls, up at the front of the trailer is a gurney with a woman in a hospital gown, strapped down with metal clamps, an IV in her arm, and a one part air mask one part anasthetic gas feed over her mouth and nose. Machine monitor her. Elsehwere there are crates marked with letters, and what looks like a dog carrier with steel door on it and a tiny window; something inside scratching about.

   "I don't like this," says one of the men.

   "You're one of those Agency guys arn't ya," says one of two armed men taking up seats by the front of the trailer, "not as comfortable as keeping all your prisoners in a nice little lab or vault I take it; but you'll find this is much safer."

   "Dragging threats along busy interstates and highways is safer," scoffs the man, "just asking for a wreck to let these monsters lose; just one spook whispering in the drivers ear,"

   "Hah," says the man in the chair tapping on the wall, "psy-blockers, don't worry Agency boy we've been doing this for decades; got all the routes carefully organized and planned out."

   "What's the manifest," asks the man eying everything, especially the woman sleeping in the corner. He is handed a clipboard, its all code with notes.

   "Cultist, Code Possession, Class S....sub-note....are you shitting me? A Cephalopodic Psycho-morph's avatar? Why the fuck isn't that in a controlled facility, and since when does the Society even know about these?"

   The two men eye each other and then the other two that came in with this man.

   "That thing's a threat," says the man, "because if this is the condition its avatar is in, then the main body wants it dead; no more experiences, no more fun, just a chain of annoyance hindering it doing something else. It will be sending every creature under its control, and don't think for a second it can't detect her inside this trailer, its quantum linked."

   The men eye each other, one behind the man says, "She's being transfered to a facility in Maine, a drop off. The threat was back where we picked her up. Don't worry, that one is not sticking to the rounds."

   "You're all going to die," whispers a soft woman's voice coming from one of the nearby crates.

   "The fuck," says the man.

   "Jody Doll," says one of the men, "been on this route for four years now. Damned thing likes to make threats late at night; any sign of fear...thanks for that by the way; and that fucking thing starts up. Its on the manifest, we have two other drop offs as well, some dog-lizard thing found by the pit, and some cursed mask or something. We don't keep everything moving around newbie, just the shit that is best not being piled up in one place to feed off each other. Three stops and we're going to have six items switched out; the manifest has keepers, switchers, and drop offs listed. Trust us, we arn't some grass roots ghost hunters...but we'll keep an eye out for anything involving this new critter; advice?"

   The man is genuinly surprised they are listening instead of just brushing him off, "Yeah, be on high alert passing over any ways; especially long bridges or roads near large rivers and lakes; we've seen them summon abominations from them; and don't drink clean water around them; they can somehow enchant it to cause night terrors and even mind control."

   He glares at the girl, "That's not a monster right there, just a piece of one, like a small bit of an octopus' tentacle reaching into our world, you numbed the tip but the rest of it is fully aware and pissed about its tentacle being numbed."
