- >M: "Anon, you're... sure about this?"
- >It's late, a sleepover at Marco's has stretched into the wee hours of the morning.
- >A pillow fort, Fort Kickass, has been erected on the bedspread, topped by a blanket and making the whole thing resemble a puffy, pillowy circus tent.
- >A: "Pfft, of course dude. Look, if it freaks you out, just say no and we'll stop and read comics instead."
- >The two boys are kneeling across from each other, on nervous, the other tense with excitement.
- >Marco sighs, rubbing the back of his head.
- >M: "But, I mean... doesn't that make this..."
- >He swallows thickly, voice barely above a whisper.
- >M: "Gay?"
- >The boy across from him snorts, a haughty smirk on his lips. The same lips that Marco hadn't stopped glancing at since his besty had brought up the idea.
- >A: "Marco, my spicy brother from a sober mother, there's nothing gay about practicing kissing with your best friend. Girls do it all the time, dad's magazines say so. Trust me, I've done the research."
- >Or, as much research as he could do when every other page was practically glued together.
- >But the less Anon thought about that, the better for all of us.
- >Anon could see Marco wavering.
- >Good.
- >All he needed was a little push.
- >A: 'Well, Marco, you wanna be a "bad boy"? Let's see just how bad...'
- >A: "Besides, do you think Jackie will want you goofing your first kiss with her and, like, licking her nose or something? It'd be a total turnoff! She'd never take you."
- >Anon felt a twinge in his chest as Marco seemed to think it over much more seriously.
- >Marco was always so focused on Jackie, so neurotic about what to say to her and how to say it, he just...
- >A: 'He cares so damn much about what she thinks of him...'
- >M: "Fine."
- >The word drags Anon from his thoughts, making him jerk upright.
- >A: "Really?"
- >His maybe-a-little-more-than best friend nods, eyes resolute with the certainty that Anon admired.
- >M: "Okay, but I lead. And it stops when I say so, okay?"
- >Anon could only nod back wordlessly, Marco's words hard to hear over the pounding in his chest.
- >The boy in red took a deep breath, scooting closer until his knees bumped against Anon's.
- >M: 'It's not gay, it's not gay, just think about Jackie, you're doing this for Jackie...'
- >Eyes half lidded, he brings his face closer, Anon's eyes shut tight and his lips in a loose circle, waiting as the gap between their mouths shrinks.
- >A: 'Closer, closer... almost there...'
- >He can practically feel Marco's breath on his lips.
- >....
- >M/A: "Mmff.."
- >M: 'They're so soft...'
- >A: 'He's so gentle...'
- >The pair stay like that, unmoving, unsure of what to do, until a hand on Marco's own prompts him to move, deepening the kiss.
- >It was sloppy, messy, movements half-learned from movies and television, mimicked poorly and hampered by the boys' inexperience.
- >Anon was thrilled.
- >Marco didn't stop.
- >Until, eventually he did, pulling away with a quiet 'smek', a thin strand of saliva connecting their lips that Anon quickly broke and swallowed up with his tongue.
- >They sat there, cheeks flushed, panting.
- >Marco hadn't even noticed when he'd started holding Anon's hand.
- >M: "So, um... was that okay?"
- >It took Anon a moment to respond.
- >A: "I, uh... I dunno?"
- >M: "....."
- >A: "Should.... Should we try again?"
- >M: "......"
- >They did.
