- Hello,
- Someone writes... (A BSDNow joke)
- I am finding that my road warrior users want to expose their FreeNAS systems to their laptops and phones but naturally that sounds like a risky proposition. FreeNAS includes OpenVPN and their are various tutorials about setting it up in a FreeNAS jail but a dedicated piece of hardware would presumably have advantages such as Mac, Windows, iOS and Android compatibility without tinkering, plus the warm fuzzies that some with a "real VPN".
- Under $300 US would be idea and a quick Amazon search, sorted by reviews yields:
- TP-LINK TL-R600VPN $69
- CISCO RV042G $176
- Cisco RVS4000 $95
- Cisco Meraki MX60 $385
- Netgear Security appliance 8 ports EN Fast EN $215
- NETGEAR ProSAFE FVS318G $111
- BUT, some of these have a single five star review which is a bit suspicious.
- Have you used any of these units and can you recommend them?
- Assuming a SoHo cable Internet connection with a wifi router, where would this unit reside on the LAN and in relationship to the FreeNAS system?
- Keep up the good work,
- Someone
