  1. The Five Nights at Freddy's movie was very well made and I enjoyed both its horror elements and the more lighthearted comedy sections when they were there. However, that doesn't come without its own problems, specifically with certain design elements or creative decisions. I just wanted to list out things I did and didn't like about the movie to get those thoughts out there.

  4. 1) Why would the plan to get Mike fired revolve around trashing the place while he isn't on the clock? I know the movie explains it as Mike left the building unlocked and his sleeping pills could be deemed as criminal negligence. But, the movie also shows the robbers breaking in through a service entrance of some kind, not the front door of Freddy's which Vanessa should have seen. Maybe she was just trying to scare Mike, who knows?

  6. 2) I wish there would have been more camera gags in the movie. The few scenes we do get of them like Bonnie opening his eyes and then cutting back to Bonnie missing are really good and a nice homage to the original game. I don't think the entire movie should just be Mike checking doors and cameras, but more of that tension maybe while Mike walks away from the camera have Bonnie, Chica, and Freddy look at the camera.

It is a much more terrifying thing to visualize than what happened in the games where they all failed at once and he was instantly crushed. It gave more weight to Afton's death and his line about always coming back is a nice nod to the games too. Finally, showing the spirit of Golden Freddy watching Afton in the back as he twitches and reaches his hand out for help is amazing. The spirit of Golden Freddy does not let go, and it'll be interesting to see if in future movies they expand on that idea of Golden Freddy's hatred of Afton.

  13. 2) The practical effects of this movie was the best decision the team at Blumhouse could have made. The gang of robots looks real, and that's cause they are real. The actors in the Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica outfits really do a good job of selling the robotic nature of the animatronics. Reminds me of the FNAF VHS tapes and the way the animatronics move in those.

  15. 3) This movie could have easily just been a generic slasher horror film with disposable characters being killed off left and right by the scary animatronics, but the characters have really well-written depth and motivations. Now, this doesn't mean that the movie doesn't dip into that genre a little bit. When the robbers are ransacking Freddy's and are getting killed off one by one, the scenes are honestly intense and I was not expecting someone to be literally cut in half by Freddy.

  17. 4) I'll say it, I liked the MatPat cameo. I even chuckled a bit when he said that's just a theory. MatPat, whether you like it or not, is one of the pillars of the FNAF community. His channel was one of many that helped to elevate FNAF to where it is today, and you cannot take that away from him or the theory team at GameTheory. I think it would be nice if they make sequels to see other FNAF creators make appearances in the movies, even if they're just background actors.
