Greil

Alain Albain Greil was defined by his ability to withstand anything life threw at him. As a young man he learned that it didn't matter how much something hurt if you could get back up again. It didn't matter how hard his opponent hit him. As long as he could get back up again, he hadn't lost yet. Greil soon learned as he got older that clinging to a sense of honor in a fight just led to being facedown in the dirt claiming that you had won because you had handicapped yourself and gotten your ass kicked. If you wanted to win a fight, and make sure your opponent didn't come back for more, you couldn't hold back. You had to do whatever it took to completely and utterly defeat your opponent.

Outnumbering your opponents, hitting them while they were down, even throwing dirt in their eyes, it didn't matter as long as you won. This attitude served him well into adulthood. He left home and became a mercenary, running with a small band called the Raging Demons. The name was the toughest thing about the rest of the band, and it wasn't long before their leader had perished and Greil had seized control. The young mercenary set about whipping them into shape, and rechristened the mercenary group, Jenhanna. The members embraced Greil's training and soon they became a graduated from hired thugs to proper warriors. Greil lead his men into every battle from the front lines, and Jenhanna's ranks swelled. From thirty, to fifty, to a hundred men strong, Jenhanna became a veritable army of mercenaries. His intense loyalty to his men inspired them to trust their commander, regardless of his ruthless tactics and the way he seemed to completely lack any sense of self preservation. Even when he lost his sword arm in battle, Greil merely commanded from the rear until he had the funds needed to procure a replacement arm, at which point he reclaimed his place at the front of his men, charging into battle with their standard held high.

Alain Albain Greil met a twist of fate when it seemed he was at his highest. The  mercenaries of Jenhanna and their commander were tasked with seiging a small but notoriously impenetrable fortress of bandits in the south. Their client had sent them to their deaths. Yet Greil lead a small detatchment of his men into the fortress during a sandstorm and managed to wipe out the enemy within. In his victory, he achieved his exaltation and became even more unkillable.

As a zenith caste exalted, Greil would need to take care in concealing his newfound power from the realm. Yet in spite of the risk to himself, Greil gathered the mercenaries of Jenhanna and revealed that he had become a solar to them. He told them that they were welcome to leave if they wanted. They told their commander they had sworn to follow him no matter what. Greil knew he would need some way to conceal his abilities as a solar and given his normal lack of self control. He decided the best way to do this would be to find a man to watch his back at all times and cover his blind spots.

Greil hired many bodyguards, and almost all of them couldn't stand working for a man who seemed to try so hard to get himself killed. He had almost given up on the plan when he met Hyoh. Dressed head to toe in articulated plate decorated with a leopard motif, the slender young earth aspect dragon was almost the exact opposite of Greil. He was patient, cautious, even-tempered, whereas Greil was hasty, reckless, and incredibly hotheaded. They were fast friends as Hyoh proved to be the exact personality type to best deal with Greil's impulsive nature. The two forged a strong bond of mutual trust, and eventually Greil revealed himself to be a Zenith Solar. Hyoh and Greil became inseperable, and their bond became the subject of much speculation to those who observed them although the two claimed to just be good friends.

Greil exalted at the ripe age of 36, and now at 90 years old is just starting to look aged. Wrinkles, white hair, a full but well rimmed beard. Were it not for his muscular build and boundless energy, you could be frogiven for assuming he was an old warhorse about to be put out to pasture. Of course, his age is easily Greil's sorest spot and often provokes loud and angry protest from the man. Greil stands at 6'4" amd 187 lbs. His eyes are a verdant green, like the treetops of a forest. His skin is coppertoned and marks him as a disturbingly fit old man. He wears no armor, opting for a set of travelers clothes. Greil wears an ornate brass sword at his hip, and carries the standard of Jenhanna wherever he walks. Although the flag usually remains coiled around the shaft until he sets off into battle, allowing for him to rest the long shaft of the spear along his shoulders.  Greil often speaks informally regardless of who he's talking to and is blunt to a fault. As such he usually speaks through Hyoh, having the young dragon act as his interpreter.
